A Study on Dijkstra Algorithm in Crossroad Including Left-turn Restriction, U-turn, and P-turn (교차로에서의 좌회전 금지, U-turn, P-turn을 고려한 개선된 Dijkstra Algorithm에 관한 연구)

  • U-turn and P-turn as well as left-turn restriction exist in real traffic network. the optimal route should be selected for considering these using shortest path algorithms. But, the traditional algorithms have some limitations to use for considering there. The objective of this paper is to modify Dijkstra algorithm in order to find the optimal path in real traffic network. The continuous three nodes are used to check turn-restrictions and exclude these from and optimal path. A virtual connection is used to consider U-turn and P-turn.

  • 우리나라 응급의료체계의 구축은 선진국이 1960년대 초 시작한 반면 1980년 이후 구축되기 시작하여 아직까지 미흡한 편이다. 사고 및 재해 발생시 응급환자에 대한 적절한 처치는 관련정보가 빠르게 전달되고, 적절하게 사용되어 응급환자로 하여금 지체시간내에 얼마나 적합한 응급의료서비스를 수혜토록 하느냐가 가장 중요하다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 의료기관, 소방서 등 의료체계의 실태조사를 통하여 현재의 응급의료체계의 현황과 문제점을 분석하였다. GIS를 이용하여 119구급차 등 응급차량이 가는 경로와 일반 시민들이 이용할 수 있는 응급경로탐색에서 많은 영향을 미치는 교통요소, 좌회전, 우회전, 경유지, 시간대별 교통량을 고려하였다. 그리고 환자의 상태에 따른 병원을 찾도록 정보를 제공하였다. 이러한 교통요소 및 병원에 대한 정보를 제공함으로서 보다 나은 환자이송에 최적경로를 제시하고자 하였다.

  • Triangle-shaped island was been used for the exclusive separation between the right-turn and the through flow. However, in case that existing Triangle-Shaped Island is built at the intersection of narrow road. there are more possibilities of traffic collision trespassing into the opposite lane. Accordingly, separation of the opposite lane is required so as to prevent the intrusion of the large-sized (a heavy) vehicle into the opposite lane turning at the intersection. This study showed the comparison between intersection composed of existing Triangle-Shaped Island and the intersection with Drop Island is added. First of all, in the safety aspect, a method to decide location and shape of Drop Island considering turning trajectory of the large-sized (the heavy vehicle) is addressed. The guideline on the placement of drop island install location and method to decide form the consider heavy truck's turn trajectory in safety side. As a conclusion. we analyzed that drop island is relatively superior to existing Triangle-Shaped Island in terms of driver, ease of driving, driving pleasantness, pedestrian, widening and economic performance aspect.

Development of an Average Green Time Estimation Model for Proper Evaluation of Traffic Actuated Operation (감응식 신호운영의 평가를 위한 평균녹색시간 추정모형 개발)

  • The Highway Capacity Manual(HCM) suggests estimating the average green time for the performance evaluation of the traffic actuated operation and Provides the average green time estimation model. However, the model provides with much room for improvements. This document proposes a new analytical model that overcomes the shortage of the HCM model. The average green times estimated by the HCM model and the proposed model were compared. A computer program using the proposed model was coded for the study, while the ACT348 program was used for the implementation of the HCM model Through the comparison study based on the 1,196 hypothetical simulation data surrogating field data, it was found that the average green times estimated by the proposed model yields much nicer one-to-one linear relationship to the simulation results than the ones from the HCM model in both exclusive-only and shared-permitted cases. The R2 values of the proposed and the HCM models with those cases are 0.90 and 0.56, and 0.86 and 0.57, respectively.

A Study on Determining the Optimal Size of Bicycle Waiting Zone under Hook-Turn Operation (Hook-Turn 통행방식의 적정 자전거 대기공간 크기 결정에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to evaluate the performance of Hook-turn operation with various sizes of bicycle waiting zone(WZ) and to determine the optimal size of bicycle WZ under various traffic and control circumstances. An extensive simulation study was performed to examine bicycle and vehicle delay trends for given experimental design. Results showed that vehicle delay was insensitive to the size of waiting zone, but bicycle delay was reduced as the size of waiting zone increased in general. The delay performance indicated a similar trend between with RTOR and without RTOR operation, but vehicle delay slightly increased and bicycle delay slightly decreased without RTOR. Regarding to optimal waiting zone size, 6 WZ was recommended for general conditions with RTOR, but 9 WZ was recommended when bicycle left-turn volume was greater than 120 v/h. 6 WZ was recommended for general conditions without RTOR, but 12 WZ was recommended when bicycle left-turn volume was greater than 90 v/h.

A Meta Analysis of the Effects of Road Safety Facilities on Accident Reduction: Focusing on Signalized Intersection (도로안전시설의 사고감소효과 메타분석 : 신호교차로를 대상으로)

  • The number of traffic accidents at intersections has been increased over the past decade, and in 2014, accounted for 44% of the total traffic accidents. In addition, since most of road accident black spots include signalized intersections, the improvement of safety on signalized intersection is top priority for national road safety program in Korea. For the decision of most effective action plan for the safety of signalized intersection, this study conducted meta-analyses to assess the effects of various road safety facilities at signalized intersection on traffic accidents. We selected 19 articles regarding the prediction of traffic accidents at signalized intersection and calculated 34 individual effect sizes on 8 variables included in the articles. The results found that there was a statistically significant negative relationship between the occurrence of traffic accident and the presence of all of road safety facilities except an exclusive left turn bay. It shows that most of the road safety facilities could prevent traffic accidents, and intersection channelization has the most effective on the reduction of traffic accidents followed by left-turn acceleration lane, lightning, crosswalk, exclusive right-turn lane and median barrier.

  • Installation of pedestrian scramble is recently increasing due to pedestrian-oriented transportation policies issued in local governments. Pedestrian scramble is able to emphasize safety issues by reducing conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles when an exclusive pedestrian phase is employed. In spite of its positive property, pedestrian scramble has several negative points: an increase of a cycle length, a decrease of green time ratio, and an increase of total delay. This study delivers the impacts of pedestrian scrambles in terms of pedestrian convenience and traffic mobility. Authors analyzed the changes of traffic delays by comparing the installation and no installation of pedestrian scramble at an intersection by varying several variables: signal timings, traffic volumes, the number of lanes, and the number of pedestrian conflicts. The paper presents an analysis procedure as a guideline that assists practitioners in selection of appropriate intersections at where pedestrian scrambles are implemented.

  • U-Turn offers convenience to drivers. U-Turn increases efficiency of traffic flow. But Standard of U-Turn is not clear. It caused many problems of traffic flow and traffic safety. This study estimate length between U-Turn location with front intersection based on stopping sight distance and left-turn vehicle's queue length. Variables are used traffic volume and operation speed. This study Analysis of U-Turn vehicle's behaviors and classification of conflict form by investigation. U-Turn length estimating based on relationship analysis between conflict with U-Turn length. Variables are used lane changing angles and operation speed. This study estimates length between U-Turn location with back intersection based on gap acceptance theory. Variables are used traffic volume, operation speed and lane changing angles. So, U-Turn location and length estimated considering traffic flow and traffic safety.

A Development of Traffic Accident Model by Random Parameter : Focus on Capital Area and Busan 4-legs Signalized Intersections (확률모수를 이용한 교통사고예측모형 개발 -수도권 및 부산광역시 4지 교차로를 대상으로-)

  • This study intends to build a traffic accident predictive model considering road geometrics, traffic and enviromental characteristics and identify the relationship of 4-legs intersection accidents in Seoul and Busan metropolitan area. The RPNB(Random Parameter Negative Binomial) model shows improvement over the fixed NB(Negative Binomial) and out of 53 variables, 10 variables (main road number of lane, main road vehicle traffic volume(left), minor road vehicle traffic volume(right), main road drive restriction, minor road sight distance, minor road median strip, minor road speed limit, minor road speed restriction) showed to have significant variables affecting traffic accident occurrences in 4-legs signilized intersections. Also, among 10 significant variables, 2 variables(minor road sight distance, minor road speed restriction) found to be random parameters.

Analysis of vehicle central line invasion accidents using simulation (시뮬레이션을 이용한 차량의 중앙선 침범 사고 해석)

  • This study examined the final stop position and posture of both vehicles, the damaged part of the vehicle, the road surface, the specifications of the vehicle, and the angle of impact, centering on the case of a collision in which no surface trace was found. As a result of the simulation, the impact velocity of an SM5 and Lexus was 131 km/h and 74 km/h, respectively, and the impact angle of the SM5 and Lexus was 0.91° and -161.07°, respectively. The cause of the accident was that the SM5 passed through the intersection exceeding the maximum speed limit of 61 km/h and entered the Lexus' left turn lane. Lexus collided during the evacuation to avoid the collision. The collision trajectory error rate of the simulation was approximately 1.4%. Of the subjective experience of accident investigators, the collision dynamics and vehicle engineering aspects and simulations were actively utilized to provide close-to-fact cause identification.
