A Study on the Bird Communities and Similarity of Three Streams in Daejeon Metropolitan City (대전 3대 하천의 조류군집과 유사성에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted from April, 2002 to March 2006, using three urban streams(Gap Stream, Yudeung Stream and Daejeon Stream) in Daejeon Metropolitan City. 12,027 individual birds summed by the peak count in 126 species, 34 families, and 13 orders were observed from three stream sites. Dominant species were of Anas poecilorhyncha, Anas crecca, Columba livia, Passer montanus, and Egretta garzetta(in that order). The groups of birds were classified into six types. The most frequent group were the arbor birds(54 species), while the smallest group was the diving ducks(7 species). As for the number of individuals, the shrub bird group had 721 individuals while the dabbling ducks observed had 4,974 individuals. Regarding the distribution of birds appeareing in each stream, 14,885 individual numbers in 114 species were observed at Gap Stream, 6,642 individuals in 90 species at Yudeung Stream and 4,202 individuals in 69 species at Daejeon Stream. Various indices of the birds were analyzed with respects to the similarities between streams. Gap Stream had similar characteristics to Yudeung Stream, and the latter was similar to Daejeon Stream. However, Gap Stream and Daejeon Stream showed different characteristics. The dominance index of each section was calculated using ten dominant bird species top-down. Subsequently, the birds and their preferred environment were analyzed. The results showed that shrub birds and arbor birds preferred the upper stream of every stream, while herons and dabbling ducks inhabited the midstream. Dabbling ducks and some diving ducks appeared downstream.

A Study on the Community of Wintering Waterbirds Gangjin Bay (강진만에 월동하는 수조류 군집에 관한 연구)

  • For research of the wintering waterbirds we surveyed monthly from October 2000 to March 2001 on Gangjin Bay, Chollanam-do, Korea. During the study period, the waterbirds were observed 9,825 individuals and 36 species. The highest dominant species was Anaspiatyrhynchos which occupied the $48.42\%$, the one followings were Anas crecca $(10.8\%)$, Tadorna tadorna $(9.7\%)$, Anas poecilorhyncha $(9.5\%)$ and Cygnus cygnus $(4.8\%)$. A regularly observed species in every months were 3 species, Egretta garzetta, Anas pin tyrhynchos and Anas poecilorhyncha. The Cygnus cygnus of specially protected species was observed the 232 individuals maximumly in November and the 125 individuals to a minimum in December. The index of species diversity was minimum 1.24 at October and maximum 2.01 at March. This area has provided a suitable roosting and feeding place for waterbirds. The peak count of the wintering whooper swan was 232 individuals in Gangjin Bay. Therefore, We need the conservation and management of Gangjiun Bay.

Distribution Patterns of Wintering Waterbird Communities in Urban Streams in Seoul, Korea (서울 도시하천에서 월동하는 수조류의 분포 특성)

  • This study was conducted to analyze the distribution patterns of wintering waterbird communities in relation to local environmental factors in the urban streams of Seoul, Korea. A field survey was conducted at 66 sites of 5 tributaries and the main channel of the Hangang River in Seoul in January 2006. The total of 65 species and 39,560 individuals were recorded in the field survey. There were 48 species and 28,989 individuals in the Hangang River, 14 species and 1,395 individuals in the Tancheon stream, 15 species and 2,306 individuals in the Jungrangcheon stream, 22 species and 5,990 individuals in the Anyangcheon, 18 species and 283 individuals in the Changrungcheon stream, and 24 species and 597 individuals in Gokrungcheon stream. The dominant species were Anas platyrhynchos (22.65%), A. poecilorhyncha (14.01%), Aythya ferina (13.26%), Aythya fuligula (8.04%), and Mergus merganser (7.03%). Among the 16 species (with 30,650 individuals) of ducks, the dabbling and diving ducks were 8 species with 18,286 individuals and 8 species with 12,364 individuals, respectively. Through the principal component analysis, the study sites were classified into four main groups according to the similarity of their waterbirds' species compositions: 3 tributaries in the urban area (Group 1), 2 tributaries in the rural area (Group 2), one in the rural area, one in the urban area, the urban area in Hangang River (Group 3) and the main channel of the Hangang River in the urban area (Group 4). Species diversity index and species evenness were the highest in Group 1, while the lowest Group 2. Analysis on their environmental factors showed that the waterbirds wintering in urban streams of Seoul prefer broad water width, low water depth and broad resting sites.

Status of Birds and countermeasures of the crop damage by the birds at Reed Marsh of Sihwa Lake (시화호 갈대습지의 조류상 및 농작물 피해 대처방안)

  • This study was carried out at Reed Marsh of Sihwa Lake from July 2003 to June 2004. We observed total(sum of maximum population) 5,752 individuals of 70 species including 12 species of ducks, 10 species of egrets, 6 species of wagtails and buntings, 4 species of eagles. The most dominant species was Spotbill Duck(Anas poecilorhyncha - 3,518 individuals, 61.16%), and other species were Mallard(Anas platyrhynchos - 540 individuals, 9.39%), Great Reed-Warbler(Acrocephalus arundinaceus - 217 individuals, 3.77%). Reed Marsh of Sihwa Lake were observed many kinds of protected species such as Great Bittern(Botaurus stellaris), Mandarin Duck(Aix galericulata), Chinese Sparrow Hawk (Accipiter soloensis), Eurasian Sparrow Hawk(Accipiter nisus), Japanese Buzzard(Buteo buteo), Hen Harrier(Circus cyaneus), Eurasian Hobby(Falco subbuteo), and Common Kestrel(Falco tinnunculus). Since the Reed Marsh of Sihwa Lake arrived many individuals of waterbird, crop damage by the waterbird occurred in the surrounding rice fields. It was an area adjacent to the reed marsh of sihwa lake such as Yoopori and Samhwari Bibongmyoun, Yamokri Maesongmyoun Hwaseong City. Bird of crop damage was ducks openly. The most species was Spot-billed Duck. Crop damage types by the Spot-billed Duck were grazing, used the grain up or lower in quality with step on the rice. Crop damage size was about 560bags of rice during the one month on August 2002. In 2003, After carrying out the various crop damage reduction countermeasures, which measured crop damage size in 2002's crop damage area. It happened about 152bags of rice during the two months from on August to September 2003. Migration routes of Spot-billed Duck were that it was migrated from up the sihwa lake to reed marsh. It took a rest at reed marsh and migrated the surrounding rice fields for the feeding action. In 2002, it was migrated direct from up the sihwa lake to in surrounding rice fields. But as environment of reed marsh was improved better than 2002, it was migrated to reed marsh because of reducing the energy attrition rate. Crop damage reduction countermeasures are get on ears to use explosion machine, searchlight, start-gun and patrol at regular intervals. Which was an effect short term. Indirect method is to make a feeding area of substitution at up the sihwa lake and reed marsh of sihwa lake.

  • 최근 국내 종오리 농장에서 AI양성 반응이 나타나는가 하면 가까운 일본 홋가이도 지역에서도 야생 철새에서 고병원성조류인플루엔자가 발생하는 등 겨울철이 시작되면서 우리나라도 HPAI에 대해 안심할 수 없는 현실에 직면하게 되었다. 본고는 지난 10월 질병 방역부장에 부임한 주이석 부장을 만나 국내외 AI발생 동향과 방역대책에 대해 들어보았다.

A Study on the Community of Wintering Waterbirds in Saemangeum (새만금에 도래.월동하는 수조류 군집에 관한 연구)

  • One of the most important habitats of Waterbirds in the west coast of Korea is Saemangeum and its mudflat, located within the estuary of the Dongji and Mankyung River. This study was conducted to clarify the community characteristics of wintering waterbirds in Saemangeum from November 2008 to February 2009. Waterbirds and Raptor are 69 species and 409,044 individuals by the sum of peak counts were recorded. We classified the wintering waterbirds into 14 groups of taxa based on the similar ecological attributes. The dominant species were Baikal Teal Anas formosa, Mallard Anas platyrhynchos, Greater White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons, Greater Scaup Aythya marila. Greater White-fronted Goose was significantly positive correlated with survey period. Baikal Teal, Greater White-fronted Goose, Bean Goose, Greater Scaup, Common Shelduck Tadorna tadorna were increased when compared with last report but Mallard, Spot-billed Duck Anas poecilorhyncha, Dunlin Calidris alpina were no difference.

  • 본 연구는 cytochrome B 유전자의 PCR-RFLP 분석기법을 이용하여 다양한 가금류 식육자원 및 각종 가공 육제품의 원료육에 대한 정확하고 재현성 높은 축종 및 육종 감별기술을 개발하기 위하여 수행되었다. 국내에서 유통되고 있는 종간 근연관계가 높은 3종의 가금육(닭, 칠면조 및 오리)의 육류에서 분리한 DNA 시료를 대상으로 cytochrome B 유전자의 특정 염기서열을 포함하는 primer를 설계 제작하여 PCR-RFLP 분석을 실시하였다. 각 축종의 근육조직으로부터 genomic DNA를 추출하고 PCR 증폭 반응을 수행한 후 얻어진 PCR 증폭산물(359 bp)을 두 종류의 제한효소(HaeШ 및 Hinf I)로 각각 절단한 결과 특히, HaeШ 제한효소에서 가금류의 축종 간 그리고 제한효소 간에 명확한 차이를 보이는 종 특이적인 PCR-RFLP marker를 검출하였다. 따라서, 본 연구에서 개발한 cytochrome B 유전자의 가금류 종 특이적 PCR-RFLP marker는 가금류의 식육 및 가공 육제품의 육종 및 축종 판별에 매우 유용한 DNA marker로 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

Assessment of biodiversity in rice paddy ecosystem (논 생태계 내에서의 생물다양성 평가)

  • 쌀 생산관리 방법에 따른 논 생태계의 생물다양성을 조사하기 위하여 관행, 우렁이, 투구새우, 심수관개, 오리농법 등으로 구분하여 벼 재배기간 동안 수서생물종과 식물종을 조사하였다. 논물과 토양에 서식하는 생물종을 쿼드라트법을 활용하여 조사한 결과, 토양생물의 풍부도는 이앙기는 관행농법, 분얼기에는 투구새우 농법이 높았으며, 출수기에는 무논, 쌀겨 농법에서 가장 많은 토양생물이 서식하고 있었다. 또한, 줄 채집에 의한 수서생물 종은 분얼기와 출수기, 육상생물은 수확기때 풍부하였으며 관행농법은 분얼기에 가장 출현종이 많았던 반면 오리농법은 전 조사기간 동안 가장 개체수가 적었으며 무논+쌀겨농법이 생물다양성 기여도가 가장 높았다. 생물조사 결과 관행보다는 유기재배논에서 종 풍부도가 2배이상 높게 나타났으며, 쌀겨농법은 이앙기~분얼기까지는 쌀겨 분해에 따른 유기산에 의해 수서곤충이 급감되나 분얼기이후 개체수가 회복되어 무논+쌀겨구에서 가장 높았다. 전 조사지점 논둑의 식물 분포는 농법별 유의성이 없었으며 논둑의 우점식물은 쑥, 개망초,질경이, 클로버, 미나리, 미국가막사리, 쇠뜨기, 둑새풀, 미나리 등이었다. 출수기를 전후하여 관행논과 유기논, 그리고 둠벙의 유무로 구분하여 생물종을 조사한 결과, 먼저 관행논과 유기논에서 서식하는 생물종은 비슷하지만 수서생물의 개체수는 유기논이 관행논보다 43-54%나 많았다. 한편, 둠벙의 유무에 의한 생물조사에서는 둠벙이 있는 논이 없는 논보다 서식종이 35-47%정도 높은 경향을 나타내어 생물다양성을 증진하기위해서는 낙수기때 수서생물들의 피난처를 확보하여 주는 소규모 둠벙이 효과적인 것으로 판단되었다.

Volatile Flavor Components in Soybean Sprouts (콩나물의 향기 성분 분석)

  • The identification of volatile constituents in foods is important in creating flavor compounds to improve the flavor of foods. This study was conducted to identify the flavor compounds in soybean sprouts cultivated with 4 different types of soybean seeds. A total of 52 flavor compounds were identified and composed mainly of alcohols (16), aldehydes (17), ketones (10), acids (2), furans (2), and miscellaneous compounds (5). Sprouts cultivated with Dawonkong and Orialtae showed 46 flavor compounds whereas Pungsannamulkong and Nokchaekong was 49 and 50. In total flavor compounds contents, Orialtae was the highest (19.3 mg/kg RC) and followed by Pungsannamulkong (15.83 mg/kg RC), Dawonkong (13.2 mg/kg RC), and Nokchaekong (11.3 mg/kg RC) in that order. Two groups including alcohols and aldehydes were detected high amounts in which their ratio were analyzed 32% and 51% in total flavor contents, respectively. It may be responsible for flavor in soybean sprouts. In case each flavor compound content, 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde was detected the major compound and hexanol, 1-octen-3-ol, and hexanal that the main compounds in lipid oxidation of soybean products were identified the main volatile flavor compounds in soybean sprouts.
