족욕요법이 한국노인의 수면과 피로에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Footbaths on Sleep and Fatigue in Older Korean Adults)

  • Purpose: To determine the type and degree of effect that a hot footbath has on sleep quality and fatigue level in older Korean adults. Methods: A non-equivalent control group quasi-experimental design was used. Fifty participants from a long-term care facility in Kwangju, South Korea, were randomly selected and assigned to two groups: experimental group (27 participants) and control group (23 participants). The participants in the experimental group received hot footbaths in a temperature-controlled water tub of $42^{\circ}C$. They soaked their feet up to 20cm above the ankles for 30 minutes before going to bed for 3 nights. Actigraphy was used to measure their sleep patterns. The data were analyzed using the SAS program. Results: After the intervention, the total sleep satisfaction rate of the participants increased, while sleep latency and fatigue decreased significantly in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion: The study results suggest that hot footbaths are beneficial for older Korean adults in enhancing sleep quality as well as reducing fatigue. Therefore, hot footbaths are recommended as a nursing intervention to improve sleep quality and to reduce fatigue in older Korean adults.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of foot-bath on fatigue of nursing students in clinical practice. method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were randomly assigned to one of four groups and data collection was conducted from June to August 2001. For the experimental group the foot-bath was performed once a day for 3 days. The instrument was subjective fatigue scale and 150mm graphic rating scale. For four groups pretest was done on first day and posttest was done on third day. The data was analyzed by the t-test and paired t-test. results: The subjective fatigue scale score was not significantly after the foot-bath in day duty but significantly lower after the foot-bath in evening duty. The graphic rating scale score was significantly lower after the foot-bath. The subjective fatigue scale score and graphic rating scale score on 1st, 3rd foot-bath day were significantly lower in experimental group. conclusion: On the basis of the above findings, this study suggests that foot-bath can be an effective fatigue relieving method.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of foot bath therapy on post-operation pain, stress, HRV of hand replantation patients. Methods: Quasi-experimental study design and non-equivalent control group pre & post test repeated measure design were employed for this experiment. 47 subjects were selected for this study. 25 subjects of experimental group participated in foot bath program had foot bath 11 times for 2 weeks; 22 subjects of control group didn't have foot bath. Pain was digitized numerically by using Visual Analogue Scale, stress was measured by stress perception questionnaire, and HRV was measured by using Cnopy9 (IEMBIO). Results: The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 17.0 Win program. (1) The difference between experimental group and control group was shown statistically significant in aspect of pain (p<.05). (2) The difference between experimental group and control group was shown statistically significant in aspect of stress (p<.05). (3) The difference between experimental group and control group was not shown statistically significant in aspect of HRV (p>.05). Conclusion: Foot bath program was an effective intervention for pain loss and perception of stress reduction. But it wasn't effective for HRV.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of foot bath therapy on operating room (OR) nurses' lower extremities edema, stress, and fatigue. Methods: This study used a randomized control group non-synchronized design. The data were collected from August to October 2013, and a total of 50 OR nurses in an university hospital in U Metropolitan City participated in the study: 25 nurses for the experimental group and 25 for the control group. The experimental group received foot bath in which feet were soaked in $40^{\circ}C$ water and immersed up to ankle line for 20 minutes per a day for 12 times. Results: There were significant decrease in the calf edema, physical stress, and fatigue between pre and post foot bath therapy. Conclusion: The findings of this study show that foot bath had the effect in decreasing lower extremities edema, stress, and fatigue among OR nurses. Foot bath therapy, therefore, is suggested as a comfort and easy-to-use method in clinical setting to reduce OR nurses' lower extremities edema, stress, and fatigue.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of foot bath therapy on the symptom intensity, distress, and interference with usual activities due to chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in patients with metastatic and recurrent cancer. Methods: Foot bath therapy was administered to the experimental group for >8 sessions in 2 weeks, and the chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy assessment tool (CIPNAT) was used to measure its effects on the symptom intensity, distress, and interference with usual activities due to CIPN. SPSS was used to perform data analyses including descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, t-test, paired t-test, and repeated measures ANCOVA. Results: A statistically significant difference in the variation of the symptom intensity, distress, and interference with usual activities due to CIPN was observed between the two groups; however, a statistically insignificant difference was observed between the groups and time of interaction. Conclusion: Foot bath therapy can be used as a simple and effective clinical or home care nursing intervention to improve the symptom intensity, distress and interference with usual activities due to CIPN.

  • We investigated the activities of autonomic nervous system during foot bathing. The effect of foot bathing was evaluated for four subjects by observing the characteristic of heart rate variability and bodily temperatures. The foot bathing was done with a commercial foot spa (Duches Co.) utilizing the four functional modes of the spa for two different temperatures of $35^{\circ}C\;and\;40^{\circ}C$. The four functional modes were clam, vibration, air bubbles, and both vibration and air bubbles. The experimental results showed that the temperature of foot and that of face right after foot bathing were not that different from each other. But, for heart rate variability, the activation of parasympathetic nerve showed distinctive increase at $40^{\circ}C$ of water temperature. In the analysis of heart rate variability for different functional modes, the change was not distinctive for different modes at $35^{\circ}$ of water temperature. However, at $40^{\circ}C$, the activation of sympathetic nerve showed distinctive increases with the increase in the complexity of functional modes.

유방암 수술 후 부정적 감각 개선을 위한 발반사마사지의 효과: 라벤더 족욕과의 비교 (Foot Reflexology for the Intervention of Sensations after Breast Cancer Surgery: A Single-blind Repeated Measured Pilot Study with Comparison Group of Lavender Foot Bath)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the improvement and maintenance effects of foot reflexology (FR) on sensations after breast cancer surgery with those of lavender foot bath (LFB). Methods: Using a single-blind design, both 18 women to receive 20-min FR by trained experts and 14 women to soak feet in $40^{\circ}C$ foot tub water with 5 drop lavender essential oil, 15-min were intervened every two days. Repeated measures were taken pre 1st-(baseline-4th op. day), pre 3rd-(2nd data), and pre 5th-intervention (3rd data) with following up at 1-week after 5th intervention (4th data). The reliable translated Korean version of Baron's Breast Sensation Assessment Scale was used to assess sensations after breast cancer surgery (SABCS) characterized by prevalence, frequency, severity, and distress. Results: A significant difference between baseline and the 3rd, and a decrease tendency from baseline to the 3rd were observed for the severity and distress in FR and for the prevalence and severity in LFB. A significant or important decrease tendency between the 3rd and the 4th were observed for the severity and distress in FR and for the severity in LFB. Conclusion: Iterative FR has the improvement and maintenance effects on the severity and distress while LFB has only those on the severity.

ICT기반 홈 헬스캐어 스마트 의자 개발

  • 본고에서는 ICT 기반 건강 관리 및 증진용 홈 헬스캐어 스마트 의자 개발 내용에 대해 기술하고자 한다. 기존의 건강 증진을 위한 홈 헬스캐어용 좌온기나 족욕기 등과 같은 건강 증진 기기들은 실제 족욕이나 좌온을 하고 난 후 얼마나 효과가 있었는지에 대해 정량적이고 시각화된 결과 들을 보여 주지 못했다. 더 나아가 이를 기반으로 누적된 자료들을 통해 이 기기들을 사용하는 사용자들에게 자신의 건강을 관리해 주는 모듈이 전혀 개발이 되지 않은 실정이었다. 본 고에서는 이 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 헬스캐어용으로 개발된 좌온기와 족욕기 등에 ICT기술적용으로 생체신호를 분석하여 이를 통해 얼마나 건강이 증진되었는지 그리고 더 나아가 건강 관리에 필요한 자료를 정량적으로 그리고 시각적으로 나타내어 주는 시스템을 개발한 결과에 대해 기술하고자 한다. 또한 ICT 기술을 적용하여 자신의 체질에 가장 적합한 온도 제공 설정등과 같은 기술도 개발하여 스마트 의자에 앉아 자신의 건강 상태를 모니터링하고 자신에게 가장 적합하고 효율적인 건강 증진 기기의 환경을 설정할 수 있는 기술 개발에 대해서도 다루고자 한다.

중풍후유증 환자에 있어서 맥파전달속도와 초음파 족욕에 따른 상관관계에 관한 임상적 연구 (The Correlation analysis of Hydrotherapy and pulse wave velocity in patients with sequelae of CVA)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to know the clinical effects of hydrotherapy based Ultrasonic spa using SoPung-Tang on pulse wave velocity in patients with sequelae of CVA. Methods : PWV(Pulse wave velocity), Bio Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Pressure were investigated in 20 patients(Experimental group 13, Control group 7) who have been in Semyung Oriental medicine hospital from December 2005 to February 2006. Results : 1. In experimental group, Rt PWV diminished 4.8%, Lt PWV 5.1%. 2. In control group, Rt PWV diminished 3.3%, Lt PWV 1.8%. Conclusion : Hydrotherapy based Ultrasonic spa using SoPung-Tang showed useful effects in patients with sequelae of CVA.

아로마풋스파가 스트레스에 미치는 영향 (The effect of aroma foot spa on stress)

  • 아로마풋스파가 스트레스에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해, 스트레스를 가지고 있는 대학생 12명을 대상으로 대조군 6명, 아로마풋스파군 6명으로 나누었다. 대조군은 아무런 처치를 하지 않았으며, 아로마풋스파군은 주니퍼, 라벤더, 레몬 에센셜오일 5%를 이용한 족욕 10분과 마사지크림을 이용한 발마사지 10분을 주 2회 총 4주간 적용하였다. 평가방법은 뇌파를 검사함으로써 스트레스를 변화량을 측정하였다. 실험 전, 후의 뇌파변화를 측정한 결과, 아로마풋스파군의 Alpha파(Z=-2.364, p<.05)와 SMR파(Z=-1.981, p<.05)는 대조군에 비해 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 아로마풋스파군의 실험 전, 후의 비교에서는 Theta파(Z=-2.366, p<.05)의 수치는 감소하였고, Alpha파(Z=-2.371, p<.05)의 수치는 증가하였다. 즉, 에센셜오일을 이용한 족욕과 발마사지를 실시한 아로마풋스파는 Alpha파의 증가를 일으키고, 이는 근육의 이완으로 인한 혈액순환으로 뇌파에 변화를 주었음을 알 수 있다. 또한 SMR파가 증가함은 Alpha파의 변화와도 관계가 있음을 알 수 있는데 스트레스 완화로 인해 SMR파가 증가되었음 증명해 주고 있다. 따라서 아로마풋스파는 스트레스를 감소시키는데 효과가 있는 것으로 사료된다.
