Effects of Consecutive Lead-Administration on Testis Weights, Number and Motility of Sperm, Organ Weights and Histological Changes in Rats (연속적인 Pb투여가 Rat의 정소중량, 정자수와 활력, 장기 중량 및 조직변화에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to elucidate the effects of lead poisoning on the reproductive organ of rats. After consecutive oral administrations of lead acetate, the weights of testis, the numbers and motilities of sperms and histological changes of organs were compared between control and experimental groups. 1. Testis weights of 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of lead acetate-administrated rats decreased compared with control group in dose-dependent manner. 2. The sperm numbers of 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of lead acetate-administrated rats were lowered significantly in dose dependent manners than those of control groups. 3. The sperm motilities of 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of lead acetate-administrated rats decreased in dose-dependent manners compared with those of control groups. 4. The weights of livers and kidneys of 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of lead acetate-administrated rats decreased or increased. The weights of livers increased and the kidney weights decreased and changes were dose-independent manner. 5. Necrosis of hepatocytes around the central veins, infiltrations of neutrophils, accumulations of bile and infiltrations of fine granules-harboring macrophages in psychymal and interstitial tissues were found out in the livers of copper sulfate-administrated rats. The Bowman's capsule, tubular epithelium and includes in nucleus of kidneys were filled with hyaline materials and hematophilic centers appeared in several lymph nodes.

An Endocrinological Study on Metamorphosis of the Midgut in Silkworm, Bombyx mori (가잠의 중장변태에 관한 내분비학적 연구)

  • In order to investigate an endocrinological effect on metamorposis of the midgut in silkworm, Bombyx mori, 20-hydroxyecdysone and rude extract of brain (PTTH) were injected into pupal isolated abdomens, devoid of prothoracic glands and also in the brainless diapausing pupae with the prothoracic glands (so-called dauer pupae). When ecdysone was assayed abdomens, drastic morphological changes occurred in the midgut. The wet weights of midguts were found decrease as like the normal pupae at metamorphosis. Proteineous changes in epithelial midgut were also observed; pupal specific proteins (PSP) vanished while the adult proteins were newly synthesized. Similar results were also found in the changes of protein in the midgut of dauer pupae by injecting ecdysone and PTTH.

  • This study was performed to elucidate the effects of copper poisoning on the reproductive organ of rats. After consecutive oral administrations of copper sulfate, the weights of testis, the numbers and motilities of sperms, organ weights and histological changes of testes were compared between control and experimental groups. 1. Testis weights of 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate-administrated rats gradually decreased compared with control group, and the values no significant changes. 2. The sperm numbers of 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate-administrated rats were lowered in dose dependent manners than those of control group's and the values no significant changes. 3, The motilities sperms of 1,000, 2,000 or 4:000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate-administrated rats decreased significantly in dose-dependent manners compared with those of control group's. 4. The weights of livers and kidneys of 1,000, 2,000 or 4,000 ppm/kg of copper sulfate-administration rats decreased or increased. 5. Necrosis of hepatocytes around the central veins and infiltrations of fine granules-harboring macrophages in periportal and interstitial tissues were found out in the livers of copper sulfate-administrated rats. The Bowman's capsule and tubules of kidneys were filled with hyaline material.

Immunostimulatory effects of enzymatic porcine placental hydrolyzate against cyclophosphamide-induced immunosuppressed model (돈태반 효소 가수분해물의 cyclophosphamide에 의한 면역 저하 동물 모델에 미치는 면역 증진 효과)

  • This study investigated the immunostimulatory effect of enzymatic porcine placental hydrolyzate (EPPH) in cyclophosphamide (Cy)-treated rats. This effect of EPPH prevented Cy-induced decreases in body, spleen, and thymus weights and natural killer (NK) cell activity. The numbers of immune cells, such as white blood cells, granulocytes, and lymphocytes, and mid-range absolute counts were significantly higher compared to the control group. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-2, IL-12, and immunoglobulin G (IgG) were notably reduced by Cy, while EPPH prevented these effects. Histopathological analysis of spleen samples revealed the protective effect of EPPH against Cy-induced immunosuppression. The findings demonstrate that EPPH can alleviate immunosuppression by cell viability, tissue damage, and regulation of the levels of cytokines. EPPH may have value as a component of immunostimulatory agents or an ingredient in functional foods.

Cryopreservation of Embryogenic Tissue and Plant Regeneration in Larix leptolepis (낙엽송 (Larix leptolepis) 배발생조직의 초저온보존 및 식물체 재분화)

  • The possibility for long-term preservation of Larix leptolepis embryogenic tissue was tested in this study. Higher relative increase of the tissue fresh weight was observed when embryogenic tissue was pretreated for 24 hrs in a medium containing 0.4 M sorbitol or 20% polyethyleneglycol with cooling rate of -0.33$^{\circ}C$/min. The fast cooling rate of -0.5$^{\circ}C$ and -1.$0^{\circ}C$/min appeared to be less effective in regrowth of tissues from cryopreservation. No DNA variants have been observed by PCR analysis among the embryogenic tissues recovered after 1-, 7-, and 28-day-cryopreservation. The post-thaw embryogenic tissue gave rise to mature somatic embryos which developed into plants.

Glycoalkaloid Content as influenced by Varieties, Parts and Weight of Potatoes (감자의 품종, 부위 및 중량별 Glycoalkaloid의 함량)

  • The difference of glycoalkaloids content on various parts of May Queen and Irish Cobbler potatoes was determined. ${\alpha}-Chaconine$ and ${\alpha}-Solanine$ were isolated from the glycoalkaloids by use of high performance liquid chromatography. It was found that the 99% of the total glycoalkaloids was existent in cortex part of all varieties. Glycoalkaloids content was higher in apical or basal part than the middle part. ${\alpha}-Chaconine$ content of the cortex showed no differences among parts of the potato in both varieties. ${\alpha}-Solanine$ was not detected in medulla part. The potatoes were classified into 4 groups depending on the weight and the glycoalkaloids content of the middle part. As the weight of the potato decreased the glycoalkaloids content of cortex part increased. Glycoalkaloids content was lower in medulla part and no constant tendency was observed.

  • S.M.계인 마우스♂♀를 정상군과 4개의 실험군 즉 양성가속도(5G-50초간과 11G-50초간 매일 각각 폭로) 및 전격(5volt-2초간과 10 volt 2 초간 매일 각각 전격)군으로 나누어 최소한 22일간 순화시킨 후 여지 전지영동법에 의해서 Albumin/Globulin 바와 단백질분할을 측정하고 또한 혈청 전단백질, 혈색소량, Hematocrit 비, 적혈구포약성 및 간, 신장의 중량을 측정하였다. A/G 와 전단백질은 양성가속도의 G-force 증가와 전격적 증가의 각군이 정확군보다 유의하게 현저히 낮은 치를 나타내고 있다. 간장중량, 혈색소량 및 Hematocrit 비는 또한 정상군보다 양성가속도, 전격적 각 조건하에서 낮은 치를 나타내고 있다. 그러나 신장중량은 현저히 증가된 치를 나타낸다. 양성가속도와 전격적조건군의 간장의 조직학적 소견은 혈관적 변화가 나타나고 그리고 양성가속도에서는 또한 액포가 출현하였다. 적혈구 포약성은 거의 변화가 없었다. 이상의 결과로 미루어보아 상기 두 효과로 인해서 주로 간장기능 즉 단백질대사에 이상을 초래하는 것으로 생각된다.

  • SM계인 마우스 ♂♀를 정상군과 4개의 실험군, 즉 온열적 (33 $^{\circ}C$-60분, 매일 각각 폭로) 및 한냉적인 (5$^{\circ}C$-60분과 $0^{\circ}C$-60분, 매일 각각 폭로) 군으로 나누어 최소한 22일간 순화시킨 후 여지 전기영동에 의해서 Albumin /blobulin 비와 단백질 분할을 측정하고 또한 혈청전단백질량, 혈색소량, Hematocrit 비, 적혈구 포약성 및 간장 신장기관중량을 측정하였다. A/G 비와 전단백질양은 온열적 증가와 한랭적 증가의 각군이 정상군보다 유의하게 현저히 낮은 치를 나타내고 있다. 간장중량, 혈색소량 및 Hematocrit 비는 정상군보다 온열적 한랭적 조건하에서 낮은 치를 또한 나타내고 있다. 그러나 신장중량은 현저하게 증가된 치를 나타내고 있다. 온열적 한냉적 조건군의 간장에서의 조직학적 소견은 현저한 변화는 없고 다만 혈관적 변화만 나타내고 적혈구의 포약성은 거의 변화가 없다. 이와 같은 결과로 미루어 보다 온열적 한랭적의 효과로 인해서 주로 간장기능 즉 단백질대사에 이상을 초래하는 것으로 생각된다.

Effects of Different Kinds of Salt on the Quality of Wet Noodles (소금종류별에 따른 첨가가 생면의 품질에 미치는 효과)

  • The effects of different kinds of salt on the qualities of weight, volume, water absorption rate, turbidity, pH, textural characteristics, and sensory evaluation of wet noodles were studied. The salts employed in this study were purified salt (PS), solar salt (SS), solar salt without bittern (SSWB), roasted salt (RS) and bamboo salt (BS, $1{\times}$). The weight, volume, and water absorption rate of the noodles decreased with the 2% addition of different kinds of salts compared to the noodles without any added salt. The turbidity of the noodles decreased when BS (0.484), RS (0.489), or SSWB (0.489) were added to the noodles much more than when PS (0.508) was added. The pH of both wet noodles and cooked noodles was higher when BS, RS, or SS were added than when the others were added. The springiness and cohesiveness of the noodles were both increased with the addition of the salts. BS, RS and SS especially increased the springiness and cohesiveness of the noodles. In sensory evaluations of appearance, taste, texture and overall acceptance, BS received the highest scores. From the results, adding salt to wet noodle preparations is important to increase the quality of the noodles. BS showed the best overall results among the salts employed in this study.
