The purpose of this study is to investigate and optimize an effectiveness process for the recovery of Pd from the spent Pd/C catalyst by the process of hydrogenation of maleic anhydride over Pd/C. Pd solution recovered from Pd/C catalyst was used to prepare Pd/C catalysts. Their characteristics were compared to those of Pd/C catalyst prepared by using a reagent grade precursor solution. Pd in the spent catalyst was leached by the modified process with dry and wet methods to obtain the high recovery ratio of Pd. The burn-out of carbon in the spent Pd/C catalyst was carried out in the rage of $600-900^{\circ}C$. Pd content of carbonized catalyst was confirmed by XRF and ICP. Pd was extracted from carbonized spent catalysts with acid solutions of 1,2 and 4 M HCl at a leaching temperature of $90^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The high recovery ratio of Pd was shown as 92.4% that leached in 4 M HCl. Also Pd/C catalysts were prepared by using the leached solution and the reagent grade of $H_2PdCl_4$ as a precursor solution and the characteristics were analyzed by XRD, CO-chemisorption and FE-TEM. As a result, the dispersion of the catalyst prepared by using the leached solution was 34.6%, which was found to be equal to or more than that of the Pd/C catalyst prepared by the reagent grade precursor solution.

Remanufacturing is a process of recovering end-of-life products into serviceable parts for producing new products. Due to the limited supply of recovery cores to remanufacture, a remanufacturing firm also needs to produce or procure new parts for fulfilling the demand. This paper is targeted for solving the problem of determining the optimal amount of newly produced and remanufacturing parts, which is called production and remanufacturing planning (PRP) problem, under uncertain supply of recovery cores. The new production mitigates the risk of insufficient core supply while it takes more costs than the remanufacturing. The PRP model in this paper also considers disassemble-to-order (DTO) environment, in which multiple kinds of parts are remanufactured from multiple products on order of the parts. Whereas existing studies presents only heuristic solutions for DTO remanufacturing, this paper provides an exact solution for this problem and analytical sensitivity of the involved cost parameters, adopting multi-dimensional newsvendor modeling and stochastic linear programming techniques. The result shows that production and remanufacturing plans for multiple products are mutually dependent, and a change of cost parameters involved in only one part is propagated to all other parts.

In this paper, we focused on the safety of workers in a remanufacturing process where a risk analysis is not carried out and suggested a criteria for evaluating injury risk. We analyzed a disassembly and a reassembly, which are important for the remanufacturing process. The disassembly includes the disassembly of product and the disassembly process of part and the reassembly includes only reassembly of part. First of all, we analyzed the remanufacturing process and a type of injury. Then, we reviewed the standards and determined the criteria for a severity and an occurrence. We set a bigger weight for the severity to allow the greater impact. And the injury risk score was defined as a sum of the weighted severity and the weighted occurrence. We conducted a qualitative analysis of the experience of field workers based on the criteria we set up. Questionnaires for the evaluation were formulated through interviews with experts.

As production, distribution, consumption and processing increase with the development of industrial societies, the importance of resource depletion and environmental problems is increasing day by day. This has led to increased research and interest in remanufacturing that can satisfy both environmental and economic aspects. Currently, the remanufacturing industry is progressed in Korea with automobile parts with as the central figure, and it needs to be expanded into various areas. In this study, the failure type analysis and FMEA were performed on the hydraulic pumps used in construction and industrial sites for the development of the standard remanufacturing process plan, and the actual disassembly and reassembly process was carried out. Remanufacturing products were manufactured through the analysis contents and drawing process, performance tests were conducted in accordance with RS B1501 criteria to evaluate performance, and all of these products passed the test criteria.

Restorations of automotive parts have been done ever since the first vehicle was produced. Because the most expensive parts of a vehicle are in the engine system, there have been various restoration methods developed for engine parts. In the case of commercial diesel engines, the fuel injection device is a key and expensive component. It also has a significant effect on vehicle performance. In particular, reduced engine power and increased exhaust gas emissions may result from mechanical damage due to abrasion of the spill valve in the fuel injection system of a diesel engine. In this paper, restoration techniques for damaged parts are applied to restore the abrasion of a spill valve of fuel injection, also called as the "unit injector", of commercial diesel engines. In order to recover the damage, optimized polishing techniques using hard-metal and coating processes are applied. To evaluate restoration techniques for the spill valve, performance and durability tests are performed on a test bench.

The necessity and the importance of the remanufacturing are increasing day by day along with environmental problems. Many studies are being conducted on remanufacturing, but the research for cleaning is much lacking. This study aims to evaluate the effective cleaning method for remanufacturing of start motors, one of the automobile parts. The cleaning process consists of oil stain removal, drying and rust removal processes. In this study, the two processes were conducted except for the drying process which has little influence on cleaning. The methodology for cleaning agent selection, degreasing and rust removal process was presented. For each methodology, five analysis factors were calculated by two-way comparison according to the process, and the values were evaluated quantitatively by substituting them into the evaluation table. In the selection of cleaning agent, neutral system, ultrasonic cleaning in degreasing, and grinding in rust removal were selected as the best cleaning methods.

Continuous industrial development has led to a better quality of life for everyone, even further accelerating industrial growth. Industrial development, however, has also caused environmental degradation, which is posing a serious threat to humanity. It has also encouraged the indiscriminate use of limited resources, causing resource depletion. Efficient resource management based on resource circulation is critical to saving resources. Resource circulation methods are as follows: reducing the use of resources in the manufacturing process, recycling used or reprocessed products and reusing used resources without being reprocessed, remanufacturing with end-of-life products with disassembled parts. Furthermore, remanufacturing process including cleaning, inspection, repairing, and reassembling facilitate performance level as well as new typical products. It is noteworthy that the remanufacturing of machine tools can significantly save resources because their structural parts are substantially large in size. Machine tools have served as a foundation for the manufacturing industry, which has driven Korea's industrial development. Nevertheless, a few research has been reported for remanufacturing technology with used machine tools. Relevant research of developing a remanufacturing process chart and method is prerequisite for saving the resource and environments.
In this study, the used DOCs, which could remove the air pollutants such as CO and HC in the exhaust gas from diesel vehicle, were remanufactured by various conditions. Their catalytic performances and characterization were also investigated. The remanufacturing process of the deactivated DOCs includes high temperature cleaning of incineration, ultrasonic cleaning for washing with acid/base solutions to remove deactivating materials deposited to the surface of the catalysts, and active component reimpregnation for reactivating catalytic activity of them. The catalytic performance tests of the remanufactured DOCs were carried out by the diesel engine dynamo systems and chassi dynamo systems in CVS-75 mode. All prepared catalysts were characterized by the optical microscopes, SEM, EDX, porosimeter and BET to investigate correlations between catalytic reactivity and surface characteristics of them. The remanufactured DOCs at various conditions showed the improved catalytic performances reaching to 90% of fresh DOC, which is attributed to remove the deactivating materials from the surface of the used DOC through the analysis of catalytic performance test and their characterization.

There is a growing interest to develop an eco-friendly air cleaner with high performance through a remanufacturing process. Two kinds of polyurethane filter media, a coarse (Filter-A) and a fine filter media (Filer-B), are used in this study to protect a vehicle engine from airborne particles. In order to improve the collection performance of the filters (Filter-A, Filter-B), an oil coating technology on the filter surface was introduced. As a result, inertial force is a dominant collection mechanism for a dry filter media, so that collection efficiency increases with increasing filtration velocity. However, intra-structure change of an oil-coated filter media influences on the collection mechanism, which shows a non-linear collection efficiency curve in terms of filtration velocity. The result shows that the developed filter media are eco-friendly and effective to protect a vehicle engine from airborne particles especially at low filtration velocity.

Today, due to the development of the industrial society, the need for sustainable research and development for energy depletion and environmental protection is increasing. Among sustainable research, remanufacturing is an ideal way to meet environmental and economic aspects. In this paper, we investigated the End-of-Life Vehicle(ELV) in order to find the recovery method of the core which is the preceding stage of remanufacturing. The number of End-of-Life Vehicle is increasing year by year, but the core recovery rate from ELV is still low. Therefore, a methodology to determine the disassembly priority of each part is proposed to increase the core recovery rate. Based on the analysis Table through the disassembly process, the decision rule was selected and the weighted score evaluation Table was completed to complete the disassembly priority system. Finally, evaluation was made on gasoline vehicles to determine priorities.
