The Effect of Uncertainty in Roughness and Discharge on Flood Inundation Mapping (조도계수와 유량의 불확실성이 홍수범람도 구축에 미치는 영향)

  • The accuracy of flood inundation maps is determined by the uncertainty propagated from all variables involved in the overall process including input data, model parameters and modeling approaches. This study investigated the uncertainty arising from key variables (flow condition and Manning's n) among model variables in flood inundation mapping for the Missouri River near Boonville, Missouri, USA. Methodology of this study involves the generalized likelihood uncertainty estimation (GLUE) to quantify the uncertainty bounds of flood inundation area. Uncertainty bounds in the GLUE procedure are evaluated by selecting two likelihood functions, which is two statistic (inverse of sum of squared error (1/SAE) and inverse of sum of absolute error (1/SSE)) based on an observed water surface elevation and simulated water surface elevations. The results from GLUE show that likelihood measure based on 1/SSE is more sensitive on observation than likelihood measure based on 1/SAE, and that the uncertainty propagated from two variables produces an uncertainty bound of about 2% in the inundation area compared to observed inundation. Based on the results obtained form this study, it is expected that this study will be useful to identify the characteristic of flood.

Urban Flood Simulation Considering Buildings Resistance Coefficient Based on GIS: Focused on Samcheok City (건물 저항계수에 따른 GIS기반의 밀집 시가지 침수모의 -삼척시가지를 중심으로-)

  • The objective of this paper presents the application of an "integrated urban flood modeling-runoff model, urban flood model and sewer system model-" in a highly urbanized area of Samcheok where is seriously inundated in 2002 and 2003. For this, we demonstrate how couple a 1-D hydrodynamic model of the river, a 2-D hydrodynamic model of the overland (surface) flow, and a sewer network model including each boundary conditions. In order to make data file for the model, topographic information like elevation and share rate of buildings are directly extracted from DEM or topographical source data without data exchange to avoid uncertainty errors. Furthermore, the research is to assess the impacts of Manning n and buildings influences to inundated depth by changing its share ratio from 10 % to 30 % in low-land urban area. As a results, we found out that the urban inundated depth was decreased by Manning n but increased by buildings ratio. The calculated results of inundation was similar with observed one in 2002 and 2003 flooding. Furthermore, the area was also inundated under not riverbank break case in 2002 flooding.

  • This study aims to improve the runoff modeling accuracy of a basin using Hydrological Simulation Program-FORTRAN (HSPF) model by considering nonhomogeneous characteristics of a basin. By entering classified values according to the various types of land cover and soil to the parameters in HSPF-roughness coefficient (NSUR), infiltration (INFILT), and evapotranspiration (LZETP)- the heterogeneity of the Yongdam Dam basin was reflected in the model. The results were analyzed and compared with the one where the parameters were set as a single value throughout the basin. The flow rate and water quality simulation results showed improved results when classified parameters were used by land cover and soil type than when single values were used. The parameterization changed not only the flow rate, but also the composition ratio of each hydrologic components such as surface runoff, baseflow, and evapotranspiration, which shows the impact of the value set to a parameter on the entire hydrological process. This implies the importance of considering the heterogeneous characteristics of the land cover and soil of the basin when setting the parameters in a model.

Empirical Equation of Wave Run-up Height (도파고 경험식)

  • For the development of empirical equation of run-up height, a new surf parameter called' wave action slope' $S_x$ is introduced. Approximate equation has been produced for each band of water depth for the computation of wave run-up height using the laboratory graph of Saville(1958). On the other hand using the laboratory data of Ahrens(1988) and Mase(1989), empirical equations of run-up height have been developed for the general application with considering roughness effect covering a wide range of water depth and wall slope. When Mase tried to relate the run-up height to the Iribarren number, nonlinear relation has been obtained and hence the empirical equation has a power law. But when the wave action slope is adopted as a major factor for the estimation of run-up height the empirical equation shows a linear relationship with very good correlation for the wide range of water depth and wall slope.

Variation of Illumination Performance with Source Size and Tolerance Characteristics of Freeform LED Lenses (LED 광원 크기에 따른 자유 형상 렌즈의 조명 성능 변화와 공차 특성)

  • In this paper, the illumination performances of three freeform lenses optimally designed for a point source were investigated for several LEDs with different source sizes, and also the tolerance characteristics of the lenses were analyzed. For comparison, two lenses with different sizes were designed with a divergent illumination model, and the last one was done with an overlapped illumination model. As the LED source size increased, the illuminance uniformity decreased more strongly, and the influence of a source misalignment on illumination performance became insignificant. However, the variation of LED radiation characteristics had strong effect on the illumination performance, irrespective of LED source size. Even though the lens based on a divergent illumination model showed superior performance compared to the lens based on an overlapped illumination model, the latter was less sensitive to the variation of LED radiation characteristics.

  • Recent destructions of outdoor signboards have frequently been caused by strong wind, resulting in damage on the property and human livelihood. One of the major causes of the problems is inadequate implementation of structural design code to the outdoor signboards which are vulnerable to wind. This leads to this paper to present the design guideline of wind-resistant outdoor signboards. In order to estimate the design wind speed, basic wind speeds over Korea suggested by KBC(2015)(revision) are corrected with land surface roughness and topography of the terrain and installation height of the signboard. This paper also suggested the procedure of wind load estimation for different types of outdoor signboards; wall attached type, wall ribbed type and ground erected type. Since the process involves complex calculation to some extent, this paper presents summarized version of wind load estimation from non-professional point of view.

Risk Model for the Safety Evaluation of Dam and Levee: II. Application (댐 및 하천제방에 대한 위험도 해석기법의 개발 : II. 적용 예)

  • The risk assessment model for dam and levee is applied to a river where two adjacent dams are located in the upstream of the watershed. "A" dam is proven to be safe with 200-year precipitation and unsafe with PMP condition, whereas "B" dam to be safe with 200-year precipitation and PMP condition. The computed risk considering the uncertainties of the runoff coefficient. initial water depth and relevant data of the dam and spillway turn out to be equivalent results in Monte-Carlo and AFOSM method. In levee risk model, this study addresses the uncertainty of water surface elevation by Manning's equation. Monte-Carlo simulation with the variations of Manning's roughness coefficient is calculated by assuming that it follows atriangular distribution. The model can be used for preparing flood risk maps, flood warning systems, and establishing nation's flood disaster protection plan.

  • In this paper, gather the sleep environment data of bedroom to sleeping and analyze the relationship between the obtained conditional data and the sleep. Based on this, system provide the optimal sleep environment of individual person by extracting the simulation model. The experiments of system was using H-MOTE2420 sensor composed of temperature/humidity sensor and ambient light sensors. We use difference image method in motion extraction from video for extraction of tossing and turning. In addition, it was entered such as ratio of fatigue, ratio of drinking, ratio of empty stomach as the information of weight can affect to sleep. Resultingly of experience, we can extract the optimal sleep environment. From now on, we will try to enhance to help to lead more pleasant daily life providing proper indoor environment changes depending on the situation even a partial of organic living environments such as eating and work as well as special sleep circumstances.

Preparation of Soft Etchant to Improve Adhesion Strength between Photoresist and Copper Layer in Copper Clad Laminates (CCL 표면과 포토리지스트와의 접착력 향상 위한 Soft 에칭액의 제조)

  • In this research, environmental friendly organic acid containing microetching system to improve adhesion strength between photoresist resin and Copper Clad Laminate(CCL) was developed without using strong oxidant $H_2O_2$. Etching rate and surface contamination on CCL were examined with various etching conditions with different etchants, organic acids and additives. to develope an optimum microetching condition. Etching solution with 0.04 M acetic acid showed the highest etching rate $0.4{\mu}m/min$. Etching solution with the higher concentration of APS showed the higher etching rate but surface contamination on CCL is very serious. In addition, stabilizer solution also played an important role to control the surface contamination. As a result of research, the etching solution containing 0.04 M of acetic acid, 0.1 M of APS with 4 g/L of stabilizer solution(ST-1) was best to improve adhesion between CCL and photoresist resin as well as showed the most clean and rough surface with the etching rate of $0.37{\mu}m/min$.

ENVIRONMENT IN THE OYSTER FARM AREA -Superficial Mud Characteristics Near Chungmu- (굴 양식장의 환경에 관한 연구 충무부근 양식장의 저질에 관하여)

  • COD and sulphide contents in the superficial mud in three oyster farms, one near Gajo-do in Chinhae Bay, the second near Eup-do in Koseong Bay and the third near Eogu in Keoje Bay, around the Chungmu area have been monthly determined for seven months from May through November in 1978. Bottom water was also checked for chlorophyll-a, dissolved oxygen, COD and sulphide. In general, large amounts of COD and sulphide in the superficial mud were found in the summer season, COD was 38.1 mg/g dry mud in the farm near Gajo-do, 32.3 mg/g near Eup-do and 25.1 mg/g in Eogu farm and sulphide was 0.313 mg/g dry mud, 0.517 mg/g and 0.132 mg/g respectively. COD and sulphide contents in the farms near Gajo-do and Eup-do were a little over the upper level of the eutrophic range, that is, 30 mg/g dry mud in COD and 0.3 mg/g dry mud in sulphide. It shows that the above two oyster farms were already eutrophicated. However, among three oyster farms no clear difference in bottom water was found.
