Wolf teeth have been reported with incidence rate of 13% to 31.9% in horses of both sexes. However, there is no report about the incidence of wolf teeth in pony breeds. In order to determine the incidence of wolf teeth in Jeju Ponies and Jeju Pony crossbreds, oral examination and palpation of the interdental space of ponies at the Jeju Race Park were performed from 2006 to 2010. Results of this study showed that a total of 90 (3.4%) of the 2,675 examined Jeju Ponies and Jeju Pony crossbreds had wolf teeth. Among 30 Jeju Ponies that had wolf teeth, 22 were male (73.3%) and 8 were female (26.7%). Among 60 Jeju Pony crossbreds that had wolf teeth, 25 were male (41.7%) and 35 were female (58.3%). In Jeju Ponies, wolf teeth were most common in 3-years-old, followed by ${\geq}4$-years-old, then 2-years-old. For Jeju Pony crossbreds, wolf teeth were most common in 3-years-old, followed by 2-yearsold, then ${\geq}4$-years-old. In conclusion, the incidence of wolf teeth in Jeju Ponies and Jeju Pony crossbreds was considerably lower than what has been reported for horses in other countries.
The present study was conducted to measure the cardiorespiratory endurance of Jeju crossbred horses according to hill tests and exercise intensity, thereby providing foundational data for evaluation of running capability of horses. The nine Jeju crossbred horses were subjected to the hill test with an inclination of around $30^{\circ}$ and six out of nine horses were used to measure the cardiorespiratory endurance according to three different exercise intensities (moderate, heavy, and very heavy). The running time for the hill test was 205 sec on average, while high deviation was observed between horses from 167 to 258 sec. In addition, the running time for the hill test was highly correlated with moderate exercise. While no significant difference in average heart rate was found between exercise intensities, a trend of large variation was found in the average heart rate between horses. The heart rate recovery was highly correlated with heavy exercise and very heavy exercise. The results showed that no significant difference in average heart rate was found among three exercise intensities, but there are large individual variations among horses.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of individual management and group management of Jeju cross-bred horses on the physiological characteristics, productivity, and characteristics of the loin muscle of the horse meat. Sixteen herds of Jeju cross-bred horses older than 44 months were selected as experimental subjects. The experiment was conducted by dividing the herds into eight herds for individual management and another eight herds for group management. Herds were fed with concentrated feed of 2.5% of the body weight for four times a day and roughage and water were fed ad libitum. In the 12th week, the intestinal pH was statistically significantly lower with group management than with individual management (p<0.05). However, no symptoms of colic were observed. With regard to the general composition of the loin muscle, fat content was a statistically significant difference between the 7.83% with individual management and 5.65% with group management (p<0.05), indicating that individual management is more effective than group management in terms of fattening. In conclusion, feeding a concentrated feed at a level of 2.5% of body weight with individual management during fattening of Jeju cross-bred horses could be utilized as a fattening method.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of concentrate feeding frequency on weight change and the colic of Jeju cross-bred horses. Around thirty-six old Jeju cross-bred horses were divided into three groups and were investigated by feeding the concentrate feed at 2.5% of their body weight 2 times, 3 times, or 4 times daily. Although the total weight gain and daily weight gain for the different feeding frequencies were higher with feeding concentrates 4 times daily compared with the other treatment groups, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). Rectal temperatures were above the normal range in weeks 11 to 12, but there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). Fecal pH was below the normal range in weeks 1 to 12, but there were no colic symptoms with any of the treatments and there was no statistically significant difference between the groups (p>0.05). When feeding concentrate feed at 2.5% of body weight, it was assumed that trying to feed it several times per day would help to prevent colic; however, there was no difference in weight gain, blood characteristics, and physiological characteristics in accordance with the number of feeding times.
Equine infectious anemia (EIA) is a worldwide infectious disease of horses and other equids. The large serological survey of EIA was performed in Jeju from 2005 through 2011. Using the conventional enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (cELISA), a total of 10,040 animals (1,329 Jeju Ponies, 8,324 Jeju Pony-Crossbreds and 387 Thoroughbred horses) was tested at the Equine Hospital of Jeju Race Park or Jeju Stud Farm, Korea Racing Authority. This survey found no serological evidence of EIA presence in Jeju. There had been no horse and pony with antibody against EIA since 1985 and no official report on outbreak the disease. Therefore, surveillance conducted found no evidence of EIA activity in Jeju.

There are increasing demands for the producing and breeding new domestic riding horses for the vitalizations of horse riding industry in Korea, according as 'Horse Industry Support Act' became. In this study, we were to develop the functional relation through the conformation comparison & body composition analysis. 76 heads of 5 breeds utilized for riding horses in Korea were used and their body measurements on 12 items were measured and cluster analysis was conducted to determine the correlation relation among them. The measurements were standardized that (height, croup height, pelvis length), and (hip width, width of pelvis) were highly correlated. In these results of the decision tree, we confirmed to classify the breed type determination by their body measurements (hip height, hip width, head length, croup height). This result can be used as basic data for the development of horse type determination (racing, riding, Riding for the Disabled, Working, or fattening) through the analysis of body composition, and be utilized as the basic data for the producing and breeding new domestic riding horses through the 3D Stereosocpic image system analyze.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of pentoxifylline levels on sperm motility, survival rate, sperm membrane integrity of frozen semen and fresh-extended equine semen in Jeju cross-bred horses. As a result of sperm characteristic comparison depending on pentoxifylline levles at 30 minutes post-thaw, the progressive motilities were $53.25{\pm}2.87$ (4mM pentoxifylline) and $50.28{\pm}2.14$ (8mM pentoxifylline) and significantly higher compared to the control group($40.09{\pm}5.15$) and other treatment group (16mM pentoxifylline, $41.27{\pm}2.82$). The progressive fast motility were $22.44{\pm}1.62$ (4mM pentoxifylline,) and $22.74{\pm}3.07$ (8mM pentoxifylline) and significantly higher compared to the control group ($13.47{\pm}1.48$) and other treatment group (16mM pentoxifylline, $14.66{\pm}3.68$) (p<0.05). As a result of sperm characteristic comparison depending on pentoxifylline levles at 30 minutes post-thaw were $68.96{\pm}1.64$ (4mM pentoxifylline) and $67.90{\pm}6.72$ (8mM pentoxifylline) and significantly higher compared to the control group ($53.48{\pm}4.84$) and other treatment group (16mM pentoxifylline, $58.14{\pm}2.65$) (p<0.05). In conclusion, these results suggest that treatment groups with 4mM and 8mM pentoxifylline were higher compare to equine seperm mobility and the control group and treatment groups with more than 16mM pentoxifylline has a negative effect on sperm characteristics. After thawing, the total motility in post-thawed equine sperm has increased by 10 percent for 1 hour. these results suggest that pentoxifylline contributes to the improvement of the equine sperm motility and characteristics in post-thawed semen.
Observation of hydrometeors' behavior in the atmosphere is important to understand weather and climate. By conventional observations, we can get the distribution of water vapor at limited number of points on the earth. In this study, the precipitable water has been estimated from the split window channel data on GMS-5 based upon the technique developed by Chesters et al.(1983). To retrieve the precipitable water, water vapor absorption parameter depending on filter function of sensor has been derived using the regression analysis between the split window channel data and the radiosonde data observed at Osan, Pohang, Kwangiu and Cheju staions for 4 months. The air temperature of 700 hPa from the Global Spectral Model of Korea Meteorological Administration (GSM/KMA) has been used as mean air temperature for single layer radiation model. The retrieved precipitable water for the period from August 1996 through December 1996 are compared to radiosonde data. It is shown that the root mean square differences between radiosonde observations and the GMS-5 retrievals range from 0.65 g/$cm^2$ to 1.09 g/$cm^2$ with correlation coefficient of 0.46 on hourly basis. The monthly distribution of precipitable water from GMS-5 shows almost good representation in large scale. Precipitable water is produced 4 times a day at Korea Meteorological Administration in the form of grid point data with 0.5 degree lat./lon. resolution. The data can be used in the objective analysis for numerical weather prediction and to increase the accuracy of humidity analysis especially under clear sky condition. And also, the data is a useful complement to existing data set for climatological research. But it is necessary to get higher correlation between radiosonde observations and the GMS-5 retrievals for operational applications.
