Analysis on Traits of Spatial Orientation of Urban Residents: Focused on Rough Maps of Advertisement Flyers in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon (도시민의 공간 정향 특성 분석: 인천 연수구의 상업 광고지 약도를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to elucidate the traits of the spatial orientation of urban residents. The analysis materials are the 110 rough maps which have been collected for the last ten years in Yeonsugu, Incheon metropolitan. The urbanites' spatial orientation are analysed from an aspect of the orientation elements and the orientation frames respectively. As a result, the urban dwellers make use of five elements - path, node, district, landmark, and language clue for their spatial orientation. Again the orientation frames of the urban people are investigated in terms of locating and directing in space. In regard to the former, they tend relatively to depend on horizontal axes based on broad streets and to prefer to position at the center on coordinate system. With reference to the latter, they show to be north-at-the-top directed tendency and to hold higher proportion of exocentric perspective than egocentric. Consequently urban residents tend to form spatial orientation with using five spatial elements, leaning horizontal axis, positioning themselves at the central part of coordinates, directing toward north-at-the-top through exocentric perspective.

Antifungal and Insecticidal Activity of Ohyang (Five Medicinal Plants) (오향(五香) 성분의 살균 및 살충효과)

  • The antibacterial and insecticidal properties of ethanol extracts and volatile components extracted from Eugenia caryophyllata, Boswellia carterii, Agastache rugosa, Aristolochia contorta, and Aquilaria agallocha were evaluated. The ethanol extract and volatile component of E. caryophyllata showed strong antimicrobial effect against all strains (Mucor hiemalis, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium funiculosum, Trichoderma viride) and the volatile component of B. carterii showed antimicrobial effect against all strains except T. viride. The ethanol extract of E. caryophyllata and A. contorta showed $100\%\;and\;32\%$ mortality against Reticulitemes spertus kyushuensis Morimoto for 48 hours and 72 hours, respectively. In the case of volatile component, E. aryophyllata showed $100\%\;and\;20\%$ mortality against R. spertus and Lyctus linearis GOZE, respectively. The main constitute, eugenol $(92\%)$ among nine components from volatile component of E. aryophyllata were identified as antibacterial active substance.

정향 추출물의 항균 활성

  • 정향을 물, 메탄올, 에테르로 각각 추출하여 각 추출물별 항균 활성을 검토하였다. Paper-disc법에 의한 메탄올 추출물 항균효과는 E. coli, B. subtilis, S. aureus, S. thphimurium, P. aeruginosa에 강한 항균력를 보였다. 물 추출물의 경우 E. coli, S. aureus, S. thphimurium, P. aeruginosa에 대해선 강한 항균력을 보인 반면 B. subtilis에서는 항균력을 보이지 않았고 에테트 추출물의 경우에도 모든 균에 대하여 항균력을 보이지 않았다. E. coli, S. aureus, S.thphimurium, P. aeruginosa균에 대한 정향 물 추출물 및 메탄올 추출물의 농도가 증가할수록 생성된 clear zone의 크기도 증가하였다. (중략)

Inhibitory Effects of Syzygium aromaticum Ethanol Extracts on IgE Mediated RBL-2H3 cell Activation (IgE 매개 RBL-2H3 세포 활성화에 대한 정향 에탄올 추출물의 억제 효과)

  • Objectives : In this report, we investigated the effect of ethanol extract of Syzygium aromaticum(L.) Merr. & Perry.(SAE) on the RBL-2H3 cell-mediated allergic response and studied its possible mechanisms of action. Methods : Cytotoxicity on RBL-2H3 cell was evaluated by MTT assay. Anti-allergic activity of SAE was assessed by ${\beta}$-Hexosaminidase and Histamine secretion, ${\beta}$- Hexosaminidase and Histamine secretion were measured by ELISA assay. Evaluate the mechanisms of effect of SAE on the secretion of degranulate mediators, we examined the effect of SAE on the activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases using western blot analysis. Results : SAE had no cytotoxicity on rat basophilic leukemia cell(RBL-2H3). Moreover SAE dose-dependently inhibited RBL-2H3 cell degranulation and histamine release. SAE specifically blocked the IgE-induced p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase activation. Conclusions : Our findings provide evidence that Syzygium aromaticum ethanol extract inhibits mast cell derived allergic reaction, and also demonstrate the involvement of p38 MAPK phosphorylation.

Anti-inflammatory effect of ethanol extract of Syzygium aromaticum (정향(Syzygium aromaticum) 에탄올 추출물의 항염 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is for checking anti-inflammatory effects of Syzygium aromaticum ethanol extract. For this, we investigated biological active evaluation about anti-inflammatory effects by Syzygium aromaticum ethanol extract. Syzygium aromaticum was extracted with 70% ethanol. This extract was tested for the cell viability on RAW 264.7 cell line by MTT assay, nitric oxide inhibitory activity and expression of inflammatory mediators. The extract showed low cytotoxicity as more than 90% cell viability in under 25 ㎍/ml concentration. On LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell line, nitric oxide inhibition activity result showed that the extract reduced NO productions in a concentration-dependent manner. Expression of inflammatory cytokines as PGE2, TNF-α and IL-1β decreased in a concentration-dependent manner and iNOS and COX-2 proteins expression were decreased significantly in western blot analysis. We confirmed that the Syzygium aromaticum ethanol extract has excellent anti-inflammatory effect. This results suggested that extract of Syzygium aromaticum may have value as the cosmetic materials.

Antibacterial Effects of Oriental Herb Extract Against Gardnerella vaginalis (Gardnerella vaginalis에 대한 한약재의 항균활성)

  • To investigate the potential of treatment, antimicrobial activity of various oriental herb extracts were tested for Gardnerella vaginalis, which is the predominant organism in bacterial vaginosis. Among the tested 14 oriental herbs, water-extracts of Kalkeun, Kosam, Nuro, Pakjakyak, Sukchangpo, Shiyup, Junghyang and Hwangryun represented antibacterial activities against G. vaginalis. The minimal inhibition concentration (MIC) of Shiyup against G. vaginais was 0.63 mg/mL, and those of Pakjakyak and Hwangryun, Kalkeun and Nuro, Kosam, Sukchangpo and Junghyang were 1.25 mg/mL, 2.5 mg/mL, and 5 mg/mL, respectively. There-fore, the water-extracts of Kalkeun, Kosam, Nuro, Pakjakyak, Sukchangpo, Shiyup, Junghyang and Hwangryun were considered to be potential treatment of bacterial vaginosis caused by G. vaginalis.

Controlling Effect of Some Plant Extracts on Pathogenic Fungi and Pest of Rice (몇 가지 식물추출물의 벼 병해충 방제 효과)

  • This study was performed to test the insecticidal and antimicrobial activity of plant extracts from clove, Sophora flavescens Aiton and neem. As the result of antimicrobial activity test, clove extract showed the strongest activity against Botrytis cinerea. In insecticidal activity test, the extract of Sophora flavescens Aiton was the highest against Nilaparvata lugens. The pyroligneous liquor (10%) and emulsified spreader (10%) were added to the extracts of clove and Sophora, respectively, to apply the environment-friendly rice field. In the field treated clove extract, disease damage occurred 49.1% and insect damage occurred 29.5% compared to control plot (100%). In the field treated Sophora extract, disease damage was 56.7% and insect damage was 21.0% compared to control plot (100%). In conclusion, plant extracts from Sophora and clove could control about 50% of disease and about 70% of insect damage that they could be used as environment-friendly resources to control disease and insect in rice farming.

정향 추출물이 시판 식용유의 가열산화 억제에 미치는 영향

  • 대두유, 올리브유 및 채종유에 대한 정향추출물(clove extract)의 항산화 효과를 알아보고자 대두유, 올리브유 및 채종유에 정향추출물을 0.02%의 농도로 첨가한 후 180$\pm$2$^{\circ}C$에서 48시간동안 가열산화 시키면서 산가(acid value) 및 공액이중산가(conjugated diene value)를 측정하였다. 대두유, 올리브유, 채종유의 초기 산가는 0.13, 0.75, 0.11이었으며, 가열산화 후 0.52, 1.31, 0.51로 증가하였다. 또한 대두유, 을리브유, 채종유의 초기 공액이증산가는 0.57, 0.43, 0.35에서 가열산화 후 1.93, 1.04, 1.08으로 대두유보다 채종유나 올리브유의 산화안정성이 높았다.
