A Study on the Characteristic of Ozone and $NO_x$ Generation in the Electerostatic Precipitators (정전식 집진기에서 오존, $NO_x$ 발생특성에 관한 연구)

  • We investigated the amount of the toxic gases emitted from the Electrostatic Precipitators(ESPs), which were currently used by indoor air cleaners. We used the wire-to-plate(WTP) type and the needle-to-plate(NTP) type corona discharger in our study. Using the voltage, the polarity of wire, the number of needles of NTP as the input variables, we studied the characteristic of Ozone and $NO_x$ generation in the ESPs. As the results, we found out that the concentration of Ozone, $NO_2$ and $NO_x$ is increased, but the amount of NO is decreased with increasing the voltage and the number of needles. And we knew that the generation rate of ozone and $NO_x$ is very related with the corona region.

An Experiment on Particle Collection and Gas Removal in a 2-Stage Electrostatic Wet Scrubber (2단 정전식 세정집진기의 집진 및 가스제거 특성)

  • DOS and NaCl aerosol particles were used to determine collection efficiencies of a 2-stage electrostatic wet scrubber with respect to particle size. The DOS and NaCl aerosols have geometric mean diameters of 0.1-3.0 urn, geometric standard deviations of $1.1{\sim}1.8$ and total number concentrations of $450{\sim}2,400\;particles/cm^3$. The tested operating variables for the electrostatic wet scrubber included air velocity and water injection rate. It was shown from the experimental results that particle collection efficiencies increased in the submicron particle size range when different polarities were applied on the water nozzle and corona wire, respectively. This increase in the collection efficiency is attributed to strong electrostatic attraction between the negative water droplets and positive submicron particles. The collection efficiencies also increased when water injection rate was increased or air velocity was decreased. Meanwhile, the pressure drop across the wet scrubber decreased by 90% compared with the existing mechanical wet scrubber. Finally, ammonia gas was used to determine gas removal efficiencies. It was observed that the gas removal efficiencies increased when the air velocity was decreased or the water injection rate was increased.

  • In this paper, double exposure holographic interferometry using ruby pulse laser is formed in order to investigate the propagation of transient waves. The vibration characteristics according to the change of impact load direction, i.e., impacted in the shear direction and in the normal direction are analyzed. It was observed that the macroscopic trends of transient wave generation and propagation in the assembly of precipitator plates were almost similar regardless of the change of impact load direction. But the propagation and mixing of transient wave was advanced relatively slowly when impacted in the normal direction.

  • 최근 환경오염이 심각한 사회문제로 대두됨에 따라 환경오염원을 제거하기 위한 여러 가지의 집진장치가 개발되고 있는데 화력발전소에서는 건식정전집진장치(dry electrostatic precipitator)를 이용하고 있다. 건식정전집진장치는 햄머(hammer) 방식의 충격장치를 설치하여 집진극과 방전극에 충격을 가함으로써 충격력을 극대화시키고 높은 분진박리 효과를 꾀하고 있는데 환경오염원이 되고 있는 집진판의 분진의 분리율을 높이기 위해서는 집진판의 전체 영역에서 분진을 동일하게 떨어뜨릴 수 있는 충격장치가 설계되어야 하는데, 이를 위해서는 충격하중에 따른 집진판의 진동 형태를 정확하게 분석하여야 한다. 본 연구에서는 집진판의 충격하중에 따른 진동의 형태를 분석하기 위해 펄스 레이저를 이용한 2중 노출 홀로그래피 시스템을 구성하였다. 홀로그래픽 간섭계는 이미 오래 전에 개발된 레이저 응용 계측기법으로서 주로 정현적인 진동을 하는 진동체의 진동 현상을 연구하는 데에 많이 사용되어 왔는데 그 기술 개발은 상당한 수준에 있다. 그러나 종래의 기술들은 주로 헬륨-네온(He-Ne)레이저와 같은 연속 레이저(continuous wave laser)를 이용한 기술들인데 최근에는 루비(ruby) 레이저와 같은 펄스 레이저 (pulse laser)를 이용한 기술이 많이 응용되고 있다. 이 펄스 레이저 홀로그래픽 간섭계를 Gottenberg는 응력파에 의해서 발생된 변형을 측정하기 위해 사용하였고 Aprahamian등은 보(beam)와 평판의 굽힘파(bending wave)의 전파 특성 연구에 이용하였다. 그 실험적 결과는 수치적 해석 결과와 비교되어 매우 좋은 일치성을 보였는데 이러한 펄스 레이져 홀로그래픽 간섭계 기법의 주요 장점은 어떠한 특정한 순간에 관찰하고자 하는 시험편의 전체 영역의 파동 전파 형상을 관찰할 수 있다는 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 펄스 레이저를 응용한 2중 노출 홀로그래피법(double exposure holography method)을 이용해서 집진판에 충격하중이 가해졌을 때 발생하는 진동이 발생과 전파 특성을 충격하중의 방향에 따라서 분석하였다.

  • In this study, the characteristics of generation and propagarion of transient wave induced in the assembly of four collecting plate upon the propagation of waves are analyzed. Also double exposure holographic inteferometry using ruby pulse laser is built in order to investigate the propagation of transient waves generated by impact load. When impact load was applied at edge of connecting band, the vibration of collecting plates was generated from the contact points between collecting plate and band which connects four collecting plates. Waves generated from the lower part and those reflected from the upper part were mixed as time went on and then formed very complex shapes. Also, when impact load was aplied at center of collecting plate, the waves propagating across the convexo-concave plane were reflected partly at curved section. Therefore the vibration amplitude was decreased as the transiet waves were propagated through the convexo-concave plane.

Particle Charging and Collection in Two-Stage, Parallel-Plate Electrostatic Precipitators (2단 평행판 정전식 집진기에서의 입자하전 및 포집)

  • From a theoretical analysis point of view, the 2-stage precipitator is decomposed into two units: charging cell and collecting cell. Collection efficiency predictions of the two-stage parallel-plate electrostatic precipitator have been performed theoretically incorporating with the charging and the collecting cells. Particle trajectorise passing the charging cell have been modeled as a simple one. Particle charge distribution at the outlet of the charging cell is calculated through integration of the present unipolar combined charging rate along the entire particle trajectory, and average charge of particles at the outlet of the charging cell is obtained from the particle charge distribution. As for the collecting cell, the diminution of particle concentration along the longitudinal direction of the collecting cell is investigated considering the conventional Deutsch's theory and the laminar theory. One should note that the collection efficiency formula derived is based on monodisperse aerosols. It has been confirmed through the analysis that predictions of particle charge by applying White's unipolar diffusion charging theory overpredict actual cases in the continuum regime, while predictions by Fuch's unipolar diffusion charging theory indicate the reasonable result in the same regime. Theoretical predictions of collection efficiency are also compared with the available experimental results. Comparisons show that the experimental results are consistently located in the collection efficiency region bounded by the two limits, the Deutsch and the laminar collection efficiencies. Finally design parameters of the 2-stage electrostatic precipitator have been investigated systematically through the one-variable-at-a-time method in terms of collection efficiency. Applied voltages on the corona wire of the charging cell and the plate of the collecting cell, and the average air velocity have been selected as the design parameters.

  • Controlling exposures to occupational hazards is important for protecting workers. Certified facepiece respirators are recommended when engineering controls do not adequately prevent exposures to airborne nanomaterials. The objective of this study is to carry out the experimental performance test to investigate the fractional efficiencies of the filter media for two grades of facepiece respirators. Experimental performance evaluations were carried out for the test NaCl particles and silver nanoparticles. For media of respirator filter, the penetration of NaCl particles was less than 5% and the most penetrating particle size occurred at about 40 nm. For silver nanoparticles, the most penetrating particle size was about 20nm with higher efficiency than those of NaCl particles. Charge characteristics of airborne nanoparticles is important because the media of respirator filter is made by the electret filter media.
