  • Despite people's expectation, COVID-19 has turned out to be a burden people have to carry for a while. The age of "Untact" has come. While many outdoor activites have been restricted, it is crucial to find other ways to maintain physical/mental health ideally indoors. As a mediative gesture, people are now taking notice of 'Console games', through which they can party, travel, and exercise in virtual reality even harder than in real life. In thesis, we will examine Nintendo Switch Consoles in relation to direction Korean game industry has to take to maintain people's physical/mental health.

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine whether Interpersonal Cognitive Problem Solving(ICPS) skill training would enhance interpersonal solving skills and behavioral adjustment of mildly mentally retarded adolescents in the junior and high school. The program used in the present study was shortened and adapted for mildly retarded adolescents from Shure and Spivack(1982) program which was developed to improve the adjustment of children in the intermediate grades 5-6. The subjects were 22 mildly retarded adolescents, and they were assigned to either the experimental(11) or the control group(11). The experimental group were given ICPS training 4 times a week over a period of 8 weeks with a total of 32 sessions in all. The results showed a significant improvement of alternative thinking and consequential thinking in the experimental group compared with the control group. With regard to behavioral ratings by the parents and teachers, there were no significant differences between the groups. The results indicated that the training was effective in increasing the ability to generate alternative solutions and to predict consequences, but the significant improvement of interpersonal cognitive problem solving skills did not lead to noticeable improvement in behavioral adjustment. It was suggested that a longer training period for over-learning, concomitant parent education program, and more behaviorally oriented social skill training combined with the cognitive approach would yield significant training effects, maintenance and transfer.

  • This study is on mid-seventies female gamblers who went through Korean modern history. The purpose is to analyze interviews on their life of understanding what their true self is, and to redefine gambling. The concept of 'existential self-regulation' was proposed and the materials were acquired through narrative interviews. The materials were then investigated according to Mandelbaum's framework for analysis of which suggests dimension, turning, and adaptation. The self-narrative revealed that the process of being addicted to gambling is as in the following: compensating her emotional deficiency via money and child's education, getting rid of the emotional deficiency via gambling, becoming free from emotional deficiency. The meaning of gambling has shifted to a comfort to existential vacuum, a source of anxiety ruining life, pastime for boring everyday life. Life events that control the impulse to gamble through 'existential self-knowledge' occurred in the second and the third stage. Based on the results, the study suggests mid-seventies female gamblers to write her autobiography, and proposed the necessity of self-examining programs.

This study was designed to estimate the morbidity of psychiatric disorder and to investigate the relationship between psychiatric disorders and clinical variables. Methods : The subjects were 47 patients who had been treated by radiotherapy. Psychiatric disorder was diagnosed according to DSM-IV. The authors assessed the relation between psychiatric disorder and demographic features, clinical features of cancer such as site, duration, frequency of recurrence of cancer, and patients' awareness of disease and expectation of outcome of radiotherapy. Results : 21 patients(44.7%) had a psychiatric disorder. The most common psychiatric disorder were adjustment disorder(66.7%), and the next major depressive disorder(23.8%). There was a significant positive relationship between psychiatric disorder and recurrence of cancer, patients' expectation of poor outcome after radiotherapy. Psychiatric morbidity was significantly low in those who had no evidence of recurrence and who considered radiation treatment as curative. However, site and duration of cancer, patients' awareness about serious illness were not related with psychiatric disorder. Conclusion : Psychiatric disorders are common among cancer patients on radiotherapy. Further clinical attention and effective treatment of psychiatric complication in cancer patients are needed not only for reducing symptoms but for better adjustment.

  • The purpose of this convergence study was to evaluate the influence of interpersonal problems on sleep quality in college students and to analyze the mediating role of mental health and the moderated mediating role of emotional regulation. This was a cross-sectional study of 307 students at a college in Seoul. The results of hierarchical linear regression showed that interpersonal problems and mental health were statistically significant predictors of sleep quality in college students. A mediation analysis further revealed that students' mental health mediates the relationship between interpersonal problems and sleep quality. Additionally, there was a moderated mediating role of dysfunctional emotional regulation in this process. Our findings suggest that supportive and adaptive cognitive emotional regulation educational programs should be designed based on college students' maladaptive emotional regulation experiences and individual characteristics.
