The Impacts of Job-Seeking Stress, Career Decision-Making self Efficacy and Social Support on mental health of University Students (대학생의 취업스트레스, 진로결정 자기효능감 및 사회적 지지가 정신건강에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate the impact on mental health of university students from job-seeking stress, career decision-making, and social support. 429 university students from the three universities in J province were instructed to answer structured questionnaires, and the data was analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation, and Regression analysis using SPSS 24.0 software. The results reveal that job-seeking stress shows positive correlation to mental health, whereas career decision-making and social support show statistically significant negative correlations. The results also show that the factors that affect mental health are job-seeking stress and social support with Exploratory power of 48.9%. It is necessary to develop and apply measures that consider impact factors such as job-seeking stress to improve mental health of university students. It is also important to establish and maintain a support system for mental health.

Acculturative Stress and Mental Health of Korean Women Living in UK (해외이주 한인 여성의 문화적응 스트레스와 정신건강 : 재영 한인 여성을 중심으로)

  • The present study set out to explore the acculturative stress and mental health(depression) of Korean women living in Britain according to socio-demographic factors, social relations and social supports level. 152 Korean women's data were collected and analyzed with frequency, correlation, ANOVA. Analysis revealed that women's acculturative stress and depression level was 2.50(moderate) and 1.66(slightly low) respectively. Acculturative stress level showed correlation with depression level. Among demographic variables, acculturative stress was significantly different from residence period in Britain, marriage and economic state and the level of depression was also different from job and economic state. The group which has frequent relationships with British and high level of social supports showed low acculturative stress. The group has high level of social supports also showed low depression. These findings highlight the importance of concerns and interventions about acculturation and mental health of Korean immigrant women and community services for the new immigrant women to improve their acculturation and mental health.

Comparison of Stress Perception and Depression between Gastric Cancer and Gastritis Patients (위암 환자들과 위염 환자들 간의 스트레스지각 및 우울의 비교)

  • A comparison was made between gastric cancer and gastritis patients regarding stress Perception and depression, using Global Assessment Recent Stress(GARS) scale and Beck Depression Inventory(BDI). 50% of gastric cancer patients and 38% of gastritis patients were found to be depressed on scores of BDI scale, respectively. There was no significant difference in scores of stress perception between both the groups. However, gastric cancer patients tended to be more depressed than gastritis patients, although the difference is statistically not significant. In the gastric cancer patients, severity of psychic distress showed significantly positive correlation with depression, whereas in the gastritis patients, severity of physical symptoms showed significantly positive correlation with depression. It suggested that depression of gastric cancer patients was more likely to be related to the extent of psychic distress than that of physical symptoms. In each of both the groups, female patients showed significantly higher stress perception than male patients, and age was found to have significantly negative correlation with stress perception. In conclusion, severity of pathology of the same organ was not related to extent of stress perception and of depression in which denial of gastric cancer patients might play a role. Thus, it is emphasized that psychosocial approach is more needed for gastric cancer patients than for gastritis patients.

  • Academic research on entrepreneurship has long been studied in various fields, but research on the relationship between entrepreneurship and subjective well-being is insufficient. This study aims to examine how challenge and hindrance stress affect subjective well-being in the impact of entrepreneurship on subjective well-being in the enterpriser of domestic company, and to determine whether the relationship among the individual characteristics of self-determination factors in this relationship has a mediating effect. According to research results, First, entrepreneurship had a positive effect on challenge stress and subjective well-being, while hindrance stress had an effect of negative. Second, challenge stress had a positive effect on relationships and subjective well-being had a positive influence but was insufficient and hindrance stress had a negative effect on both relational and subjective well-being. Third, Challenge stress and hindrance stress both influenced positive on subjective well-being through relationships. When you summarize the results of the research, It has been confirmed that the entrepreneurship of enterpriser effects subjective well-being, that hindrance stress is a factor that can interfere with subjective well-being, and that relationships play an important role in enhance subjective well-being of enterpriser. Based on these findings, conclusions were discussed and implications and directions for follow-up research were presented.

The Relationship among Job stress, Emotional labor, Resilience and Mental Health in Firefighters (소방공무원의 정신건강과 직무스트레스, 감정노동, 회복탄력성간의 융합관계)

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the relationships among job stress, emotional labor, resilience, mental health and to determine the influences on mental health in firefighters. The participants were 391 firefighters in Chung-Nam and some variables related to job stress, emotional labor, resilience, mental health were measured using reliable instruments. There showed significant positive relationships of mental health with job stress, emotional labor and negative relationships with resilience. Among predictors, job stress(job insecurity, lack of reward, occupational climate), emotional labor, resilience had statistically significant influence on mental health. Mental health programs to decrease job stress and emotional labor, and to enhance resilience are essential to improve the mental health of firefighters.

  • This study aims to examine whether the relationship between client violence and turnover intentions is mediated by job stress among community mental health social workers. Data of a sample of 1,429 drawn from a study of nation-wide mental health promotion centers in 2013 was analyzed in order to verify both the direct and mediating effects between client violence, turnover intentions, and job stress. The study found that 67.2%(n=961) of the sample experienced client violences in the workplace. Furthermore, the experience of client violences had a direct effect on turnover intentions and job stress had a partially mediating effect on the relationship between client violence and turnover intentions. Based on the results, implications were discussed to reduce the extent of job stress of mental health social workers and to provide a safer work environment.

The Relationship of Stress Perception and Psychopathology with Intensity of Tinnitus in Patients with Tinnitus (이명환자들에서 스트레스지각 및 정신병리와 이명강도 간의 관계)

  • The relationship of stress and psychopathology with subjective or objective tinnitus intensity was investigated in 43 patients with tinnitus. Global assessment of recent stress scale, Beck depression inventory and symptom checklist-90-revision were used to measure stress perception and psychopathology. Subjective tinnitus intensity was assessed by subjective tinnitus severity inventory, whereas objective tinnitus intensity was assessed by tinnitogram. Scores of perceived stress related to interpersonal relationship and sickness or min had significantly positive correlation with subjective tinnitus intensity. In psychopathology, scores of somatization, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, phobia, paranoid ideation, psychoticism had significantly positive correlation with subjective tinnitus intensity. However, stress perception and psychopathology did not significantly correlate with objective tinnitus intensity. These findings suggest that tinnitus may be associated with stress perception and multiple psychopathology including anxiety and depression. Thus, it is emphasized that Psychosocial intervention as well as effective consultation-liasion activity is needed for evaluation and treatment of patients with tinnitus.

The Mediating Effects of Emotional Dysregulation on the Relationship between Care Worker's Job Stress and Mental Health (요양보호사의 직무스트레스와 정신건강의 관계에서 정서조절곤란의 매개효과)

  • The study examined the mediating effect of emotional dysregulation on the relationship between care worker's job stress and mental health. The Geriatric Caregiver's Job Stress Questionnaire, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, and The Symptom Check-List-90-R were administered to 154 care workers. Through the hierarchical regression analysis, direct interrelationship among job stress, emotional dysregulation, and mental health was examined. Furthermore, the statistical significance of mediating effect of emotional dysregulation on the relationship between job stress and mental health was tested through the bootstrapping. The result showed that the lack of emotional clarity and the limited access to emotion regulation strategies appeared to have a complete mediation effect on the relationship between job stress and mental health. That meant the necessity of adaptive emotional regulation in dealing with mental health problem elicited by job stress.

  • The purpose of study is analyzing the mediating effect of resilience in the relationship between posttraumatic stress and mental health. To get the result, a survey was conducted, targeting social workers who work in Gwang-Ju and Jeonnam area and traumatic experience, posttraumatic stress, social support, resilience and mental health outcome measures were used in the survey. Key outcomes of the analysis are as follows. Firstly, it was showed that between posttraumatic stress, resilience and mental health have a direct relationship. Secondly, it was analyzed that resilience had a partial mediation effect in the relationship between posttraumatic stress and mental health. Based on these results, comprehensive interventions for improving the mental health and resilience of social workers were proposed.

The Job Stress and Mental Health of the Insurance Reviewer (보험심사 근무직의 직무스트레스와 정신건강)

  • The net function of the domestic medical insurance system is highly regarded, but due to the problem of incomplete coverage, the public wants to secure coverage through private medical insurance subscription. As a result, the subscription rate of private medical insurance has recently increased, and the billing rate has also increased. As the number of people seeking private medical insurance increased, workers at private medical insurance companies are experiencing increased job stress and side effects, especially for insurance reviewers who are in charge of paying insurance, such as communicating with customers who claimed insurance and contributing to the company's profit. In response, this study analyzed the effects of job stress on mental health of insurance reviewers and conducted a descriptive survey study to reduce job stress of insurance reviewers and promote mental health. The analysis shows that job stress for insurance reviewers has a significant impact on mental health (+). In detail, job stress has a significant impact on all four factors: social performance and self-confidence, depression, sleeping disturbance and anxiety, and general well-being and vitality. This study showed that job stress in insurance reviewers has a significant (+) impact on mental health. Job stress can cause side effects in organizational aspects, such as reducing enthusiasm for job performance and increasing turnover and resignation rates, but it can also worsen individual physical health and cause diseases such as depression and anxiety, causing mental health to be impoverished. Therefore, in order to prevent this, appropriate work stress prevention methods and countermeasures should be provided to help reduce work stress and improve mental health.
