Previous emotion studies revealed the two core affective dimensions of valence and arousal using affect-eliciting stimuli, such as pictures, music, and videos. Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR), a type of stimuli that has emerged recently, produces a sense of psychological stability and calmness. We explored whether ASMR could be represented on the core affect dimensions. In this study, we used three affective types ASMR (negative, neutral, and positive) as stimuli. Auditory ASMR videos were used in Study 1, while auditory and audiovisual ASMR videos were used in Study 2. Participants were asked to rate how they felt about the ten adjectives using five-point Likert scales. Multidimensional scaling (MDS) and classification analyses were performed. The results of the MDS showed that distinctions between auditory and audiovisual ASMR videos were represented well in the valence dimension. Additionally, the results of the classification showed that affective conditions within and across individuals for within- and cross-modalities. Thus, we confirmed that the affective representations for individuals could be predicted and that the affective representations were consistent between individuals. These results suggest that ASMR videos, including other affect-eliciting videos, were also located in the core affect dimension space, supporting the core affect theory (Russell, 1980).
This research was performed to confirm the four emotional eating types and examine the differences in BMI, ego resilience, and the level of college adaptation among those types. The total of 485 Korean college students (male 249, female 236) participated in this study. The main results were as follows, First, the emotional eating types were divided into four types based on positive emotional eating and negative emotional eating, and the type of more - eating with positive emotion and less? eating with negative emotion was the largest one among all the types. Second, there were no significant distinctions on frequency between emotional eating types and BMI. Third, individuals with less - eating for both positive and negative emotions showed the highest ego resilience level, whereas those with more - eating for both positive and negative emotions showed the lowest. Fourth, individuals with less - eating for both positive and negative emotions showed the highest score in the level of adaptation in college whereas those with more - eating for negative emotion and less - eating for positive emotion showed the lowest. Limitations of the present study and suggestions for future research were discussed.
This study tried to derive implications by analyzing the literature related to food psychology to understand the psychological and emotional influence of food. The results of an exploratory study on food psychology are as follows. First, it was found that the perception of taste is related to an individual's state of mind. Second, as the theories for understanding the psychological aspects of food intake, the eating inhibition theory, the emotion regulation theory, and the escape model for binge eating based on the narcissistic theory were confirmed. Third, it was found that tools that can measure symptoms related to binge eating occupy a large portion of food-related diagnostic tools. Fourth, research on food-related psychological disorders was conducted on food cravings, binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa, eating inhibition, and healthy food obsession. Fifth, it was found that studies related to the treatment of food-related psychological disorders were focused on the cognitive behavioral therapy approach. This study will serve as a basis for understanding and intervening in the emotional impact of food and psychological problems related to food.
The positive relationship between older driver's mobility and life satisfaction is well established(e. g., Collins, 2008). The present study showed that this relationship can be changed by older drivers' motivation, aspects of mobility, and affectivity. Specifically, this study examined whether aspects of mobility(amount of driving measured by travel distance and time: 'AD' or amount of driving for social activity: 'DSA') can be differed as a function of approach/avoidance motivation(measured by BIS/BAS scale, Carver et al., 1994) and positive/negative affect(PA/NA; measured by SPANAS, Diener et al., 2009) mediate the relationship between the aspects of mobility and life satisfaction(measured by SWLS, Diener et al., 1985). Self-reported scores of the variables of 132 older drivers(ages of over 65) were analyzed using correlation analysis and path analysis. The results can be summarized as followings. First, the older driver's BAS was found to be positively related to DSA, but BIS was negatively to AD. In particular, DSA positively mediated the relationship between BAS and PA. Second, PA, in turn, positively mediated the relationship between DSA and life satisfaction. The results can provide useful insights to understand the relationship between older driver's driving property, motivation, affectivity and life satisfaction.
The purpose of the present study is to examine effects of anger expression and perceived emotional competence on school anger in adolescents. The participants were 304 high school students (134 males, 170 females). They were administered the anger-related subscales (anger-out, anger-in, and anger control) of the Korean Version of the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI-K), the Korean Version of Trait Meta-Mood Scale (K-TMMS), and the Korean Version of School Anger Inventory(SAI-K). The results showed that school anger positively correlated with anger-out and anger-in, and negatively correlated with anger control and perceived emotional competence. Neither interaction effects of anger-out and perceived emotional competence nor interaction effects of anger-in and perceived emotional competence on school anger were significant. On the contrary, interaction effects of anger control and perceived emotional competence on school anger were significant. The results of post-hoc analysis revealed that the effect of anger control on school anger was significant in the case of high perceived emotional competence but not significant in the case of low perceived emotional competence. Based on these results, it was suggested that psychological programs designed to reduce school anger in adolescents need effective measures to enhance not only anger control skills but also perceived emotional competence.
This study was conducted of students in their youth, who were having behavioral and emotional problems, anxiety, depression, and ADHD in their school. The participants took part in equestrian sports programs(equestrian program and apparatus program) twice a week, for 60 minutes each. To make progress in the study, mainly 4 scales are used as the standards of preliminary and post inspections : emotional and behavioral development scale, anxiety scale, depression scale, and ADHD scale. After conducting two-way ANOVA analysis, the conclusion was made as follows. The equestrian sports and horse riding exercise program which were used in this study did had an positive effect on emotional and behavioral scale, depression scale, anxiety scale, and ADHD scale. Moreover, it is determined that the equestrian sports had more positive effects than the equestrian sports which used apparatus. However, to precisely compare and contrast the effects of equestrian sports programs and apparatus programs, the follow-up studies need to limit the control group.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of young children's playfulness, emotional control, and emotional instability on their peer play behavior, focusing on age differences. A total of 209 4- and 5-year-old children attending a child care center in South Korea participated in this study. The instruments used in this study were the Playfulness Scale, Emotion Regulation Checklist, and Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale. The collected data were analyzed using a Student's t-test, Pearson's partial correlation, and stepwise regressions with the SPSS software ver. 16.0. The main results of this study are as follows: First, there was a significant age difference in young children's emotional control, emotional instability, playfulness and peer play behavior. Second, the factors of emotional control and playfulness significantly predicted young children's play interaction irrespective of age. Third, the factors of emotional instability and playfulness significantly predicted young children's play disruption and play disconnection. Further, implications for the use of early intervention targeting specific emotional control and emotional instability problems have been discussed.
The purpose of this study is to develop an emotional management program on adolescents' happiness and psychological well-being. The participants were 100 students from two middle schools located in Seoul. Half of them were assigned to the treatment group, and the other half were assigned to the control group. Students in the treatment group participated in an emotional management program for 8 weeks. All of the participants' happiness and psychological well-being scores were measured before and after implementation of the program. The pre-test scores of both groups indicated that they were homogeneous. However, as for the post-test, the happiness score of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group. Also, the scores of the treatment group on six subdimensions of psychological well-being were higher than those of the control group. These results imply that the emotional management program has a significant, positive effect on adolescents' happiness and psychological well-being.

This study examines undergraduate nursing students' user satisfaction and affective experience of collaborative information behavior in a group-based learning through survey method to see the relationship between these factors. For this purpose, the affective experiences (positive and negative aspects) of collaborative information search were examined using the PANAS scale through the same questionnaire. Correlation between students' experiences of collaborative information search and affective aspects were examined, and statistical significance using the t-test were also conducted to measure the relationship among students' demographic factors, experiences of collaborative information search and affective aspects. The results revealed that there was a significant correlation between experiences of collaborative information search and affective aspects. Also, there were significant relationships among students' demographic factors, experiences of collaborative information search and affective aspects. In particular, there were signigicant differences in students' overall satisfaction of collaboration and positive aspects between male and female students who experienced collaborative information search. This study found out the possibilities for a follow-up study for affective aspects in collaborative information behavior.
This study investigated the relationship between older driver's safe driving behavior, driving mobility(amount of driving, assessment for driving-related physical ability, confidence for adaptation in driving situation, amount of social activity) and subjective well-being(life satisfaction, positive/negative affect). The data of these variables were collected by questionnaire method based on face-to-face interview. The results can be summarized as followings. First, the older driver who reported higher scores in the self-report safe driving behavior questionnaire tended to show higher level of subjective well-being and driving-based mobility. Second, all the sub-factors in the driving-based mobility questionnaire were positively related to life satisfaction, positive affect but negatively related to negative affect except amount of driving. Finally, it was found that both confidence for adaptation in driving situation and amount of social activity positively mediated the relationship between self-report safe driving behavior and life satisfaction and positive affect, but confidence for adaptation in driving situation negatively mediated the relationship between self-report safe driving behavior and negative affect, Implication and suggestion were discussed.
