  • The purpose of this study is to examine the perception of librarians on the role of public libraries related to disasters. For this purpose, the study conducted an online survey for librarian. The survey is composed of 34 questions, including the questions asking librarians' perceptions about the roles of public libraries related to the disasters derived from literature review. The research results are as follows; First, although librarians were not well aware of the roles of public libraries related to disasters, they generally supported the necessity of the role and evaluated the benefits of the role highly. Second, librarians recognized the necessity of the role of the library in the following order of importance; psycho-emotional support for citizens who have experienced disasters; cooperation with disaster support agencies; disaster shelter; disaster information service; archiving disaster experiences of residents; outreach services; community support. Third, librarians recognized that psycho-emotional support services for residents suffering from disasters were the most necessary and beneficial to residents. Fourth, librarians' perceptions of disaster-related library roles changed based on their position and the type of library they belong to. On the basis of these results, the research discussed and suggested what roles each public library should play and what services it should plan, and how it should be implemented during the disaster.

  • The purpose of this study was to discover the relevance between the psychological well-being of highschool students and their emotional intelligence, which functioned as a representative adjustment index in their daily life, as well as their interior-exterior control. To attain this purpose, this study targets as research subjects 402 students who were freshman at two different high schools of Jeju City. The results were as follows. First, female students had a higher level of emotional intelligence than male students had. Second, those with greater feeling of psychological well-being had higher emotional intelligence and interior-exterior control. Third, the psychological well-being had a positive effect on emotional intelligence and interior-exterior control. According to this survey, we need to recognize that there is a close relationship between psychological well-being and emotional intelligence. We also need to strengthen the ability of students to better understand other people through the affective rather than the subject-centered cognitive aspect of counseling education and activities. There is also a need to strengthen their social skills that gives them the ability to deal with and act wisely in human relationship. This can be achieved through counseling education and programs that can promote better understanding of their psychological well-being as well as influencing interior-exterior control.

The subjects were 312 students(2nd grade) of commercial high school in Kyonggido. Data collected by questionnaire survey were analyzed by SPSS Win 22.0 and descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, hierarchical linear regression, and stepwise regression were conducted. There were 21 independent variables: 8 organism variables (self-competence, interpersonal skills, internal control, mood awareness, emotional expression, empathy, emotional regulation, emotional capability), 9 microsystem variables(school variables: the relationship with teachers, school learning, classroom climate, school welfare facilities, school environment/peer variables: peer relationship/family variables: family functioning, education level of fathers, economic status), 2 mesosystem variables(parent-teacher relationship, parent-children's peer relationship), 1 exosystem variables(satisfaction with Korean educational system), 1 macrosystem variables(Korean's primal belief in educational achievement). The results are as follows; the significant variables were the relationship with teachers, satisfaction with Korean educational system, peer relationship, emotional capability, parent-teacher relationship($R^2=45.3%$); and the effect of microsystem was the strongest($R^2=35.7%$). This research is meaningful of analyzing school life satisfaction of commercial high school in terms of ecological perspective.

  • Recently, the many anti- stigma program use the 'mental illness is an illness like any other biogenetic illness' approach. This is based on Weiner's attribution affection theory. However, mental illness is difficult to be applied with attribution affection premise because attributing no blame for mental problem(biogenetic cause) leads to fear and dangerousness. We proposed a modified attribution affection model that explains the relations between biogenetic causal belief and social distance. Our model assumed that attributing personal responsibility for each mental problem leads to anger and social distance. And attributing no blame for mental problem(biogenetic causal belief) reinforces perception of dangerousness and social distance. This study presented typical vignettes of schizophrenia, depression and alcoholism according to the diagnosis criteria of DSM-IV to 768 university students randomly. Path analysis was used to test modified attribution affection model. The major findings are, First our original model modified partially for fit index. So final model assumed that i) The more respondents believed personal responsibility, the more anger, the more anger reaction corresponded closely with more social distance. ii) biogenetic causal beliefs leads to a worsening of dangerousness and perception of dangerousness leads to a increasing of social distance. Second, multi-group analysis was conducted to verify how a modified attribution affection model would be applicable to three groups. The result is that there is no difference among three groups. Finding from this research suggest to change anti-stigma program that use medical model.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out how voice recognition technology can be utilized to solve the elderly problem rapidly aging in Korea. Public support services and civilian nursing services for the elderly are expected to expand in Korea. In this case, voice recognition technology can be used variously for the elderly who are not familiar with the media interface. To this end, our researchers visited Japan and examined the achievements obtained by voice recognition technology in the elderly care. Especially, when caregivers write reports, they have greatly reduced their working hours by replacing the handwritten reports with ones using voice recognition technology. This method can be easily implemented in Korea. In addition, the social cost of the elderly support can be gradually reduced through the development of a robot equipped with voice recognition technology. Consequently, we realize that when voice recognition technology is combined with artificial intelligence programs of various emotion recognition functions and various policy possibilities as well.

  • This study examined the perceptions of health literacy on inpatient and outpatient patients among nurses currently in the field. The study participants consist of ten nurses working for general hospitals in Seoul and Busan. The data was collected from focus group interviews and all interviews were recorded and transcribed. Data were analyzed by using the content analysis method. Nurses recognized that there was a difference in the patient's health literacy level according to the patient's age, education, income level, underlying disease, and emotional state. This study suggests implementing 1) education programs to increase nurses' awareness of the importance of health literacy, to make accurate assessments of patent level of health literacy and communicate with them accordingly, and 2) support system for patients with poor health literacy.

  • This study aims to identify what kind of epistemological resources were activated in unproductive and productive practice by students participating in scientific argumentation, and to explore which contexts result in changes in argumentative practice. We collected transcriptions of participants' argumentative lessons and interview, participants' work sheets, and researchers' field notes. The analysis revealed that the focus group activated different kinds of epistemological resources depending on their practice; propagated, belief, and accumulation in unproductive practice and constructed, understanding, accumulation, formation and rebuttal in productive practice. We found two contextual cues that led to these changes; unfamiliar form of argumentative task was provided and emotional, epistemic, and conceptual support of the epistemic authority. This work can be provided as additional case studies to analyze changes in practice according to learner context-dependent epistemology, and we expect to contribute to discussions of productive epistemology and stabilization for students' authentic science engagement.

  • This study aimed to validate the Awareness of Age-Related Change (AARC) scale developed by Brothers et al. (2019) for the Korean elderly. This study took the elderly people in Seoul (over 65 years old) as participants to examine the aging perception of the elderly themselves. For this purpose, we conducted exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses (EFA, CFA) with two samples (sample 1: N = 185; sample 2: N = 215). EFA revealed and CFA confirmed a two-factor structure consisting of awareness of gains and awareness of losses. Specifically, the awareness of losses had two subfactors consisting of awareness of losses in health and awareness of losses in non-health, while the awareness of gains had no subfactor. Finally, we examined the relationship between AARC, attitudes toward own aging, and emotions then discussed the implication, limitations of this study, and future direction.
