  • The study aimed to investigate the psychological effect of the emotional insect-assisted healing program on the stress experienced by 43 children in a community child center. Silkworm (Bombyx mori [Linnaeus]) was used in the healing programs, and the stress was measured using salivary alpha-amylase levels. Saliva samples and a survey on insect preference were collected before and after the healing programs, respectively. After the program, the satisfaction score for participation was evaluated. Results indicate that the emotional insect-assisted healing programs led to statistically significant lowering of salivary alpha-amylase levels and increased the preference for insects. The children's satisfaction in the healing program activities using silkworms was 4.23 points out of 5.

  • The purpose of this study is to organize research trends by analyzing healing studies using emotional insects, and to suggest future research directions. As a result, only six emotional insect species were used for healing purposes, and most of the age groups of the test subjects were elementary school students and the elderly. As for the type of research, field application of the healing program was dominant at 76.5%. Effectiveness verification was mainly conducted through questionnaires before and after participating in the healing program. In some cases, stress-related salivary hormones were used as indicators or clinical tests were conducted by medical staff. Based on the results of this analysis, future strategies such as finding new emotional insect species, developing various types of healing program models, and expanding and subdividing the target subjects were suggested to promote the growth of the healing industry using emotional insects in the future.

  • This study aimed to summarize the characteristics of visitor experience for different market segments based on insect experience orientation in order to develop Ptecticus tenebrifer (Diptera: Stratiomyidae [Walker]) experience programs using local resources in the insect industrial market. A total of 325 effective samples were collected, and the attributes of insect experience orientation were connected to education, emotion, society, and ego. The survey respondents were students and parents of school-age children. Cluster analysis showed that the respondents were classified into two or three groups that were all found to be high in the prediction validity and discriminant analysis. Based on this result, the respondents were properly subdivided into three clusters for final analysis. Those three groups were: the passive group, the moderate group, and the active-orientation group. As a group aiming for various insect experiences, the active-orientation group consisted of parents whose children range in age from either 5 to 9 or from 10 to 14. This group was willing to spend 7 ~ 8,000 won on each experience program, and they preferred emotional experience programs. The passive and moderate orientation groups were most interested in having an educational experience. In order to increase people's interest in experience programs, education-oriented programs should be developed and promotional marketing should be reinforced. The results and implications of this study may be useful for the development of insect experience programs that can meet various visitor experience orientations as basic data that can contribute to the vitalization of the 6th industrialization plan for the insect industry.

  • In accordance with Article 6 of the 「Insect Industry Promotion and Support Act」, the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences conducted a fact-finding investigation in the insect industry for related workers in 2020. Most commonly, insect industry workers were involved in production (98.5%), the male ratio was high (80.4%), while those in their 50s comprised 36.4% of the workers. As for the uses of industrial insects, 66.5% was for food and medicine, 12.7% for feed, and 20.7% as pets. The most commonly produced industrial insect species by use were the white-spotted flower chafer (69.6%), Protaetia brevitarsis seulensis (Kolbe), for food and medicine; crickets (31.2%) for feed; and the rhinoceros beetle (45.6%), Allomyrina dichotoma (Linnaeus), as pets. Powder was the most common product form at 68.5%, and live insects constituted 40.9%. Insect farms with an annual income accounted for 77.3%, of which 65.4% had annual sales of less than 20 million won. Market acquisition was rated by most insect industry workers (84.0%) as the primary challenge. In conclusion, although the number of people employed in the insect industry is increasing annually, the number of young insect farmers (20s to 40s) is decreasing. The production of industrial insects was limited to a few species, and more than half of insect farms have very low incomes. Furthermore, insect farms have the greatest difficulty in market acquisition, necessitating the development of utilization technology to promote the consumption of industrial insects.

  • Life history of Gampsocleis sedakovi abscura Walker, an amenity sound producing insect, was investigated in Jinju, Korea from 2005 to 2007. G. sedakovi abscura had a generation per year and could be seen in the field from early March to late September. The peak emergence period of adults was early July. Developmental period from egg to adult was 357 days in average of three years in the field. Egg and nymphal periods, and adult longevity were 269, 88, and 357 days in average, respectively. The average ovipositional period was 63 days, and an adult laid 94 eggs in average throughout her life. The average longevity of adult was 90 days for female and 82 days for male. The sex ratio was 52%. G. sedakovi abscura over-wintered as egg stage in the soil. Circadian rhythm of the adult emergence showed that more than 70% of the adults emerged in the morning.

  • between the Action-image and the Affection-image, there is the Impulse-image. IF the aesthetics of the action-image and Affection-image are realism and idealism, the aesthetics of the impulse - image is naturalism. since the impulse-image has traits of action-image and affection-image, naturalism refers to four co-ordinates: originary world/derived milieu, impulses/modes of behavior. In Deleuze's view, the great directors we call naturalists are Stroheim, Bunuel, and Joseph Losey.

  • Asian gypsy moth, Lymantria dispar asiatica (Lepidoptera: Erebidae), which is an indigenous pest in Korea, a large outbreak has been reported in Gyeonggi-do, Chungcheong-do, and northern Gyeongsangbuk-do from 2019 in forest and nearby downtown areas, causing emotional damage to forests and city dwellers. During the indoor culture of gypsy moth eggs collected in Yecheon, Gyeongbuk in 2021 we found that 79.65% (321/403 of first instar larvae) were died due to Lymantria dispar multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (LdMNPV) infection. Sequence analyses of 36 gypsy moths collected from 12 regions in Korea using LdMNPV late expression factor-8 (lef-8) and polyhedrin (polh) genes showed a genetic variation of 0.80% and 0.86%, respectively. Comparison to GenBank data showed that the Korean samples were most similar to LdMNPV in Japan, whereas most different to those of Turkey. These results showed a high infection rate of LdMNPV in Korea and LdMNPV is one of the important population regulators of the gypsy moth.

  • This paper deals with the design and implementation of a typing game especially for the disabled people such as children, the elderly, and the handicapped persons on hands. In order to increase the typing capability of such users the game is designed to increase the score whenever they correctly enter the words that appear randomly on the screen. Moreover it is devised to arose the interest by making them follow closer to bugs and insects running ahead when they type correctly many words as possible within a given time limit to eliminate the bugs at the collision; otherwise the distance becomes farther when they enter misspelled words. This functionality can develop the intellectual strength of the users. This typing game helps the disabled increase their typing capability, memorize the character key position, and feel emotionally good with excitement.

  • The purpose of this paper is to show development examples of nature-friendly characters and to play a guide role for various nature-friendly characters to appear by presenting nature-friendly characters setting in Korea. Three famous examples of nature-friendly characters in foreign countries and the influence of nature on infants and young children will be examined with reference to previously published papers and published books. I have confirmed that nature harmony positively affects emotions and life respect of infants and young children, the characteristics of nature-friendly characters are 1. The characters are drawn based on nature environment as background. 2. They have been beloved for story of nature conservation and love for nature, and playing in nature environment. As story setting, I suggested 1. A story of forest experience with friends 2. A story of nature observation and exploration such as playing, exploration, and explanation 3. A drawing of Korea nature environment, including grass, flower, tree, insect, etc. 4. An educational and philosophical story of life respect, nature conservation, and love for nature.
