T.O.V.A. PROFILES OF CLINICALLY REFERRED CHILDREN WITH SYMPTOMS OF INATTENTION (주의산만을 주소로 소아정신과를 내원한 아동의 인지적 특성 - T.O.V.A. 양상을 중심으로 -)

  • Objective:This study aims to investigate the cognitive characteristics of clinically referred children with symptoms of inattention, cach as having ADHD, tic disorder, and emotional disorder. Methods:65 boys(38 with ADHD, 17 with Tic disorder, and 10 with Emotional disorder) were individually assessed using the KEDI-WISC(FIQ, VIQ, PIQ) and T.O.V.A.(errors of omission, errors of commission, reaction time, variability, anticipatory response, multiple response), and the results of those tests were analyzed. Results:There was significant difference among three diagnostic groups of the VIQ of KEDIWISC and the reaction time of T.O.V.A. after the correction of the effect of age difference. Conclusion:The findings suggest that the reaction time of T.O.V.A. might be the useful variable to differentiate the ADHD from other psychiatric disorders and the effect of age and IQ difference should be considered carefully to diagnose in clinical setting.

Comparison of Performance on Superordinate Word Tasks in Elderly and Young Adults (노년층과 청년층의 상위범주어 과제 수행력 비교)

  • The aim of this study is to conduct superordinate word selection task to compare their performance and reaction time, and superordinate word writing task to compare the differences in their performance and error pattern in 40 elderly adults and 43 young adults. As a result, first, in both tasks, elderly adults had a smaller number of correct responses. Second, elderly adults showed slower reaction time than young adults. Third, in superordinate word writing task, elderly adults showed more relevant errors than irrelevant errors. The reason elderly adults had a smaller number of correct responses in both tasks was that the links among the pieces of information in the semantic lexicon weakened or deteriorated due to normal aging. Slower reaction time was based on neurophysiological changes of the brain and cognitive processing speed. In addition, the relevant errors showed that they could access the lexicon for target words and produce explanation the relevant characteristics, even though they could not retrieve the target words.

Attention Bias Toward Drug Cues in Female Methamphetamine Addicts (여성 메스암페타민 중독자의 약물 단서에 대한 주의편향)

  • Addicts pay more attention to addiction-related cues, such as substance or behavior. And increased attention to these cues is associated with craving. Methamphetamine is the most abused drug among domestic drug offenders, with continually increasing rates of recidivism. Of the total number of reported drug offenders in the last three years, 21.1 percent have been women. Even so, research on female drug offenders is inadequate, rendering policies and fundamental data for the development of psychotherapy programs insufficient. The present study intended to investigate whether female methamphetamine addicts displayed an attention bias towards drug cues. A dot probe task was conducted on 22 female methamphetamine addicts (addiction group) and 22 non-addicts (control group). The task allowed the correct response rates and correct reaction times of the participants to be calculated according to the positioning of the drug and neutral cues. The analysis results revealed that the control group displayed no difference in correct reaction rates and correct reaction times between the drug or neutral cues. While, the addiction group showed lower correct response rate and slower response time for drug cues in comparison to neutral cues. The results of this study are significant in that it identified the attention bias characteristics toward drug cues of female methamphetamine addicts who were disconnected from drugs.

Perception of Time-altered Sentences and Selective Word Stress by Normal-hearing Listeners (시간 변화와 선택적 단어 강조법이 정상 청력 성인의 문장인지도에 미치는 영향)

  • The present study examined whether sentence perception scores were changed under various conditions of time alteration (compression and/or expansion) and selective word stress in normal hearing listeners. Twenty young normal hearing adults (ten males) were participated. As stimuli, Korean standard-sentence list for adults (KS-SL-A) modified to semantically anomalous sentences was newly recorded by a female speaker. Seven different time-altered conditions (e.g., ${\pm}60%$, ${\pm}40%$, ${\pm}20%$, 0 %) were controlled. To see the effect of selective word stress (i.e., the emphasis of specific syllables in the sentence), all subjects were tested twice 2 weeks apart. The results showed 1) there was significantly different sentence perception scores among the different time-altered conditions, yet only in the 60 % compression condition; 2) there was no significant difference of the sentence perception scores in the effect of stress; however, there was a positive effect of the selective word stress in the sentences consisting of 6 ~ 7 syllables at the 40 % compression condition; 3) there was no significant gender difference. The pattern of results suggests that the combination of time compression and selective word stress is more effective to understand speech, instead of only using time expansion condition. However, further studies should be needed for standardization.

CORRELATION STUDY BETWEEN THE SCORES OF KEDI-WISC SUBSCALES AND THE SCORES OF ADS VARIABLES (KEDI-WISC의 각 소검사 점수와 ADS 점수간의 상관관계 연구)

  • Objectives : The present study was conducted to investigate a correlation of ADS and KEDI-WISC measures. Methods : The data of 91 children were used. On KEDI-WISC, PIQ, VIQ, and 11 subtest measures, and on ADS, 4 variables (ommission error rate, commission error rate, response time mean, and response time deviation) were analyzed. Results : The correlations of Ommission Error Rate and Coding, Digit Span, and Arithmetic, the correlations of Commission Error Rate and Object assembly, Picture Completion, Arithmetic, Digit Span, and Coding, the correations of Response Time Mean and Coding, and the correlations of Response Time Deviation and PIQ, and Coding were significant. Conclusion : ADS variables and several IQ scores are significantly related.

A STUDY OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND STANDARDIZATION OF ADHD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM (전산화된 주의력장애 진단시스템의 개발 및 표준화 연구)

  • Objectives:Present study developed the computerized ADHD Diagnostic System(ADS) in order to diagnose ADHD and evaluate treatment effect of it, and conducted a standardization study for ADS. Methods:The normative group was composed of 847 children and adolescents between the age of 5 and 15(boy 429, girl 418) living in the areas of Seoul, Kyunggi-do, and Kangwon-do. 30 ADHD children with age ranged 7 to 9 years were participated present study to evaluate the validity of ADS. To establish the norms for diagnosing ADHD, the means and standard deviations of normative group were used to calculate T-scores for each age group. Results:The reliability coefficient of ADS(Cronbach's ${\alpha}$) was .85. There were significant differences in the measures of ADS except commission error between the normal and the ADHD groups. Three factors were extracted through factor analysis of ADS, which were labelled 'inattention', 'slow information processing' and 'impulsivity'. Discriminant analysis showed that ADS significantly discriminate the normal and the ADHD groups. Percentage of correct classification by ADS variables was 96.7%. Conclusion:These results put together strongly support the reliability and validity of ADS as a diagnostic instrument for ADHD.

Study on Measurement Variables for Visual Attention Improvement in a Serious Game (기능성 게임에서 시각주의력 측정을 위한 효과적인 변인의 설정)

  • Recently attention deficit of children has caused various social problems. Those children who has symptoms like ADHD (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) has to be provided with methods which can enhance their attention level in a child-friendly way such as 3D games. This paper shows a research on how to measure the level of attention for attention deficit children using their favorite 3D games. Firstly, we speculated on the methods about attention measurement used in the medical area. And then we searched measurement variables which can effectively evaluate the level of attention during a game play time. Secondly, we have conducted experiment whether there exists difference about the value of the measurement variables between the two groups, normal children group and attention deficit children group. Those variables are omission error, commission error, average response time, and standard deviation of response time. Though our experiment has only been limited to visual attention level, four measurement variables revealed mutual differences.

Arithmetic Fluctuation Effect affected by Induced Emotional Valence (유발된 정서가에 따른 계산 요동의 효과)

  • This study examined the type and extent of interruption between induced emotion and succeeding arithmetic operation. The experiment was carried out to determine the influence of the induced emotions (anger, joy, and sorrow) and stimulus types (picture and sentence) on the cognitive process load that may block the interactions among the constituents of working memory. The study subjects were 32 undergraduates who were similar with respect to age and education parameters and were especially instructed to attend to induced emotion by imitation of facial expression and to make a correct decision during the remainder calculation task. In the results, the stimulus types did not exhibit any difference but there was a significant difference among the induced emotion types. The difference was observed in slower response time at positive emotion(joy condition) as compared with other emotions(anger and sorrow). More specifically, error and delayed correct response rate for emotion types were analysed to determine which phase the slower response was associated with. Delayed responses of the joy condition by sentence-inducing stimulus were identified with the error rate difference, and those by picture-inducing stimulus with the delayed correct response rate. These findings not only suggest that induced positive emotion increased response time compared to negative emotions, but also imply that picture-inducing stimulus easily affords arithmetic fluctuation whereas sentence-inducing stimulus results in arithmetic failure.

A Case Study on the Professional Education Using SAFMEDS Teaching Strategy (SAFMEDS 교수전략을 적용한 전문가 교육 사례연구)

  • This study reported a case study that showed educational usefulness of SAFMEDS (Say All Fast a Minute Every Day Shuffled) on the improvement of Fluency. The participants were 3 experts with special teacher and speech and pathology, who enrolled a graduate level course, Research in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The SAFMEDS strategy was employed as a study tool for the participants to acquire fluent verbal repertoires related to the key terminologies of Skinner's (1957) analysis of verbal behavior, list 60 pairs of terms. The participants developed 60 term flash cards which presented a target term on the front of the card, and its definition on the back. During the intervention, the participants were required to see the definition and says its term. The results of this study indicated that the SAFMEDS was effective to improve participants' fluent verbal repertoires in terms of both accuracy and fluency. The results of this study would be able to contribute for education professionals to improve certain target operant's accuracy and fluency.

Effects of water on the esterification of oil with high content of free fatty acids (고유리지방산 함량 오일의 바이오디젤 전환 반응에서 수분의 영향)

  • 수송용 바이오연료로써 바이오디젤의 보급 활성화에 따른 원료인 식물성 기름의 가격 상승 및 수급 불안정성 문제를 해결하고자 그동안 활용되지 않았던 폐유지를 바이오디젤 생산 원료로 사용하여 바이오디젤 생산 단가를 낮추고 원료의 수급 안정성도 확보하려는 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 폐유지의 경우 대부분 유리지방산 함량이 높아 염기 촉매를 적용하는 방법으로는 비누의 생성으로 전환이 힘들며 산 촉매를 적용하여 유리지방산을 에스테르화하는 공정을 필요로 한다. 에스테르화 반응에서는 반응 부산물로 물이 생성되며, 생성된 물은 바이오디젤 생산 반응을 저해하고 역반응을 유도하며 촉매의 활성을 감소시킨다. 본 연구에서는 고유리지방산 함량 오일의 에스테르화 반응에서 수분의 영향을 검토하였다. 산 촉매로 액상 촉매인 황산과 고체 산 촉매인 Amberlyst-15를 사용하였다. 초기 수분 함량이 0, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20%로 증가하였을 때, 지방산 메틸 에스테르 함량이 크게 감소하였으며, 1%의 수분 함량에서도 반응이 크게 저해받는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 고유리지방산 함량 오일의 에스테르화 반응에서 수분에 의한 저해가 중요한 변수라는 것을 알 수 있다. Amberlyst-15는 황산보다 수분의 영향에 의해 지방산 메틸 에스테르 함량이 빠르게 감소하였다. 이는 다공성의 Amberlyst-15에서 생성된 물이 반응물질들이 active site에 접근하는 것을 방해하였기 때문인 것으로 생각된다. 황산을 사용하였을 경우에는 오일 대 메탄올 몰비를 1:3에서 1:6으로 증가시킴으로써 정반응 속도가 증가하여 수분에 대한 영향이 감소하는 현상이 나타났다. 에스테르화 반응 종료 12시간 후에 바이오디젤과 메탄올 내에 수분 함량을 분석한 결과 12%의 수분이 바이오디젤 층에 존재하며 88%의 수분은 메탄올 층에 존재하였다. 반응 중에 생성된 수분을 제거하기 위해, 에스테르화 반응 30분 후에 물을 포함하는 메탄올과 촉매 층을 새 메탄올과 촉매로 교환하는 2단계 반응을 수행함으로써 지방산 메틸 에스테르 함량을 향상시킬 수 있었다. 반응 초기에는 황산이 Amberlyst-15보다 높은 활성을 보였지만, 시간이 지날수록 두 촉매 사이의 에스테르화 성능 차이는 감소하였다. 따라서 2단계 에스테르화 반응이 수분의 저해작용을 줄이는 한 가지 대안으로 제안될 수 있다. 또한 에스테르화 반응에서 물의 저해 작용을 줄이기 위해 앞으로 투과증발막의 적용 또는 물에 저해작용을 받지 않는 구조의 촉매 사용을 검토할 필요가 있다.
