Following a successful bathymetric mapping demonstration in a previous study, the potential of airborne EM for seafloor characterisation has been investigated. The sediment thickness inferred from 1D inversion of helicopter-borne time-domain electromagnetic (TEM) data has been compared with estimates based on marine seismic studies. Generally, the two estimates of sediment thickness, and hence depth to resistive bedrock, were in reasonable agreement when the seawater was ${\sim}20\;m$ deep and the sediment was less than ${\sim}40\;m$ thick. Inversion of noisy synthetic data showed that recovered models closely resemble the true models, even when the starting model is dissimilar to the true model, in keeping with the uniqueness theorem for EM soundings. The standard deviations associated with shallow seawater depths inferred from noisy synthetic data are about ${\pm}5\;%$ of depth, comparable with the errors of approximately ${\pm}1\;m$ arising during inversion of real data. The corresponding uncertainty in depth-to-bedrock estimates, based on synthetic data inversion, is of order of ${\pm}10\;%$. The mean inverted depths of both seawater and sediment inferred from noisy synthetic data are accurate to ${\sim}1\;m$, illustrating the improvement in accuracy resulting from stacking. It is concluded that a carefully calibrated airborne TEM system has potential for surveying sediment thickness and bedrock topography, and for characterising seafloor resistivity in shallow coastal waters.
In this study sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), which was anionic surfactant, was added for forming micelles to remove iron ion that could be contained with small amount in industrial water. Then aggregates binding between iron ions and micelles were rejected by a ceramic microfiltration membrane. As result of SDS concentration effect on removal rates of iron and SDS in modified iron solution, the removal rate of iron was the highest value of 92.26% and the removal rate of SDS was 61.10% a little higher than the result of calcium ion at 8 mM which was CMC (Critical micelle concentration) of SDS. As final resistance of membrane fouling $R_f$ increased the more at the higher SDS concentration, it showed the highest value at 4 mM and the lowest at 10 mM of SDS. The final permeate flux $J_{180}$ had the highest value and the largest total permeate volume could be finally acquired at SDS 10 mM. In case of CMC 8 mM, low $R_f$ was shown as same as that of 10 mM until 80 minutes of operation, and tended to increase dramatically to 120 minutes and increase slowly again until 180 minutes.
In this study, periodic water-back-flushing using permeate water was performed to minimize membrane fouling and to enhance permeate flux in advanced water treatment system by ceramic microfiltration. We investigated effect of water-back-flushing period (FT) and time (BT), and tried to find the optimal operating conditions. BT was fixed at 3 sec and FT was changed in $30{\sim}120$ sec to inspect effect of FT. Also, FT was fixed at 120 sec and BT was changed as $3{\sim}12$ sec at experiment of BT effect. At both two experiments, TMP was fixed at 1.52 bar, water-back-flushing pressure at 0.98 bar, feed flow rate at 0.5 L/min, and feed water temperature at $20^{\circ}C$. As the result, optimal FT was 30 sec at fixed BT 3 sec in our experimental range. It means that the more frequent back-flushing was the more effective to reduce membrane fouling. However, there were not large effects of FT due to a short BT. Then, increasing BT at fixed FT 120 sec could decrease resistance of membrane fouling ($R_f$) and increase permeate flux (J) and dimensionless permeate flux ($J/J_o$), and the most total permeate volume ($V_T$) could be produced at the maximum BT 12 sec.
The effects of pH and oxygen back-flushing were investigated in hybrid process of ceramic microfiltration and PES (polyethersulfone) beads loaded with titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) photocatalyst for advanced drinking water treatment in viewpoints of membrane fouling resistance ($R_f$), permeate flux (J), and total permeate volume ($V_T$). As increasing pH, $R_f$ decreased and J increased. Finally the maximum $V_T$ could be acquired at pH 9. Treatment efficiencies of turbidity was almost same independent of pH. Treatment efficiency of dissolved organic matters (DOM) decreased as increasing pH. As results of comparing the oxygen and nitrogen back-flushing, $R_{f,180}$ at oxygen back-flushing was the lower than that at nitrogen back-flushing, and the dimensionless final permeate flux ($J_{180}/J_0$) by initial permeate flux ($J_0$) at oxygen back-flushing was maintained the higher than that at nitrogen back-flushing except 10 and 12 min of back-flushing period (FT). Treatment efficiency of turbidity at oxygen back-flushing was a little higher than that at nitrogen back-flushing. Treatment efficiency of the DOM at nitrogen back-flushing was the higher than that at oxygen back-flushing. Also, treatment efficiency of turbidity at saturated oxygen was similar with those of oxygen and nitrogen back-flushing, but the treatment efficiency of DOM was increased significantly because OH radical could be generated by reaction between saturated oxygen and photocatalyst.
In this study, we used hybrid module that was composed of packing granular activated carbon (GAC) between module inside and outside of ceramic microfiltration membrane for advanced drinking water treatment. Instead of natural organic matters (NOM) and fine inorganic particles in natural water source, synthetic water was prepared with humic acid and kaolin. Packing fraction of GAC was changed from 0 to 24.05% to see effect of packing fraction. As a result, changing curves of resistance of membrane fouling ($R_f$) and permeate flux (J) during 3 h operation were almost overlapped independent of packing fraction of GAC. Treatment efficiencies of turbidity were very high above 99.46% at all packing fractions of GAC. And treatment efficiency of NOM, which was measured by $UV_{254}$ absorbance, was the highest value of 99.43% at packing fraction of 24.05%. Then, we operated the hybrid process during 13 h at packing fraction of 24.05%. As a result, J was rapidly dropped according to increase of membrane fouling within initial 1 h of operation, and almost constant after 3 h. And treatment efficiencies of turbidity and NOM were stable and high values of 99.52% and 96.63%, respectively.
The $N_2$ back-flushing period (FT) and time (BT) were investigated in hybrid process of ceramic microfiltration and PES (polyethersulfone) beads loaded with titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) photocatalyst for advanced drinking water treatment in viewpoints of membrane fouling resistance ($R_f$), permeate flux (J), and total permeate volume ($V_T$). As decreasing FT and increasing BT, $R_f$ decreased and J increased, and finally the maximum $V_T$ could be acquired at FT 10 min and BT 30 sec. In FT effect experiment, treatment efficiencies of turbidity and dissolved organic matters (DOM) were the highest at no back-flushing (NBF) because of dramatic membrane fouling. As result of BT effect, the treatment efficiencies were the maximum at BT 30 sec, which was different with the FT result. Because the photocatalyst beads could be cleaned effectively as decreasing FT and increasing BT, turbidity treatment efficiency increased a little from 95.4% to 97.5% as decreasing FT, and from 95.9% to 98.5% as increasing BT. Also DOM treatment efficiency increased from 70.8% to 80.6% as decreasing FT, and from 75.1% to 85.8% as increasing BT. The optimal condition, where the treatment efficiencies and $V_T$ were the maximum, should be FT 10 min and BT 30 sec in our experimental range.
For advanced drinking water treatment of high turbidity water, we used the hybrid module that was composed of photocatalyst packing between outside of tubular ceramic microfiltration membrane and membrane module inside. Photocatalyst was PP (polypropylene) bead coated $TiO_2$ powder by CVD (chemical vapor deposition) process. Instead of natural organic matters (NOM) and fine inorganic particles in natural water source, modified solution was prepared with humic acid and kaolin. Water-back-flushing of 10 sec was performed per every period of 10 min to minimize membrane fouling. Resistance of membrane fouling ($R_f$) decreased and J increased as concentration of humic acid changed from 10 mg/L to 2 mg/L, and finally the highest total permeate volume ($V_T$) could be obtained at 2 mg/L. Then, treatment efficiencies of turbidity and $UV_{254}$ absorbance were above 98.5% and 85.7%, respectively. As results of treatment portions by membrane filtration, photocatalyst adsorption, and photo-oxidation in MF, MF + $TiO_2$, and MF + $TiO_2$ + UV processes, turbidity was treated little by photocatalyst adsorption, and photo-oxidation. However, treatment portions of humic acid by adsorption and photo-oxidation were above 10.7 and 8.6%, respectively.

The wear on engine valve and seat insert is one of the most important factors affecting engine performance. The engine valve and seat insert must be able to withstand the severe environment that is created by: high temperature exhaust gases generated while the engine is running, rapid movement of the valve spring, high pressure generated in the explosive process. In order to study such problems, a simulator has been developed to generate and control high temperatures and various speeds during motion. The wear simulator is considered to be a valid simulation of the engine valve and seat insert wear process with various speeds during engine activity. This work focused on the test of various degrees of wear on four different exhaust valve materials such as HRV40, HRV40-FNV (face nitrided valve), STL #32, STL #6,. Throughout all tests performed in this study, the outer surface temperature of the seat insert was controlled at $350^{\circ}C$, the cycle number was $4.0{\times}10^6$, the test load was 6860 N, the fuel was LPG the test speed was 20 Hz (2400 RPM) and the seat insert material was HVS1-2. The mean (standard deviation) maximum roughness of the exhaust valve and seat insert was $25.44\;(3.16)\;{\mu}m$ and $27.53\;(3.60)\;{\mu}m$ at the HRV40, $21.58\;(2.38)\;{\mu}m$ and $25.94\;(3.07)\;{\mu}m$ at the HRV40-FNV, $36.73\;(8.98)\;{\mu}m$ and $61.38\;(7.84)\;{\mu}m$ at the STL #32, $73.64\;(23.80)\;{\mu}m$ and $60.80\;(13.49)\;{\mu}m$ at the STL #6, respectively. It was discovered that the maximum roughness of exhaust valve was lower as the high temperature hardness of the valve material was higher under the same test conditions such as temperature, test speed, cycle number, test load and seat insert material. The set of the HRV40-FNV exhaust valve and the HVS1-2 seat insert showed the best wear resistance.

The central objective of this study is to curtail the leakage of mortar or cement paste, often resultant of ill-constructed formwork, by implementing thixotropy in the formulation of high-fluidity, standard-strength concrete. When such concrete is utilized in smaller scale construction projects, instances of formwork gaps due to suboptimal construction precision may lead to significant leakage of mortar and paste, a problem not typically encountered with traditional slump-flow concrete. In this investigation, Polyvinyl Alcohol(PVA) and borax are incorporated into the concrete mixture to induce thixotropy. The experimental design includes varying methodologies for integrating PVA and borax, while assessing alterations in diverse concrete performances, including thixotropy and leakage reduction potential that simulates formwork gap conditions. Under the experimental conditions defined within this study, it was found that replacing, rather than merely adding PVA and borax, aids in averting water addition via suspensions. This approach yielded promising results in terms of concrete properties and proved efficacious in stemming leakage in concrete possessing sufficient thixotropy. Notably, when a 6% PVA suspension was substituted, a significant reduction in leakage was observed. Consequently, it is projected that construction quality can be ensured, even with lower precision formwork, by applying thixotropy to concrete through the use of PVA and borax.
In this study the discharged wastewater from paper manufacturing plant was filtrated by 4 kinds of tubular ceramic microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes (carbon material) with periodic water-back-flushing, and we tried to find the optimum back-flushing time (BT). As results of water-BT effect for each ceramic membrane, the longer BT was more effective for a membrane having the larger pore size. And we could acquire the most volume of total permeate and the highest recovery efficiency of purified water, Then, the results of permeate flux vs. initial permeate flux during 180 min's operation showed that the longer BT was more effective for longer filtration time (FT) to obtain the higher permeate flux because membrane fouling proceeded deeply at long FT condition. And the optimum BT that founded from the trends of membrane fouling resistances almost accorded with the optimum BT from the trends of permeate flux, too.
