  • Purpose: In the present study, the effect of artificial tears with different ingredients on tear film stability and subjective symptoms of dry eyes in the early stage of soft contact lenses wear was investigated. Methods: The three kinds of artificial tears and saline solution were respectively applied onto 50 dry eyes which wore soft contact lenses made of etafilcon A. Then, non-invasive tear film break-up time (NIBUT) was measured at every five minutes for 30 minutes right after the instillation of artificial tears, and the changes in blink rate and subjective symptoms were estimated after 30 minutes from the instillations. Results: All three kinds of artificial tears increased NIBUT larger than saline. The effect of increasing NIBUT immediately after the instillation of artificial tears was the largest when the artificial tear containing viscosity enhancer was used. The duration time of the effect was the longest when the artificial tear having both surfactant and viscosity enhancer was applied. The blink rate was not significantly changed when both artificial tears and saline solution were instilled. Subjective symptoms were significantly improved by the instillation of both artificial tears and saline solution and dryness, irritation, tiredness, stiffness, dazzling were improved by the use of most solutions. However, the subjective symptoms were rebounded to the level before the instillation of artificial tears after 30 minute-instillation. Conclusions: It was revealed that both artificial tears and saline solution could improve the subjective symptoms of dry eye in the early stage of soft contac lenses however, the effect of these solutions on the tear film stability was different according to the components. From the results, it is suggested that the proper selection of artificial tears is necessary for the improvement of dry eye symptoms at the early stage of soft contact lenses wear in dry eye.

  • The fundamental study for an application of nanobubble as a soil remediation enhancer on heavy metal contaminated soil was carried out. The existence and long-term stability of hydrogen nanobubbles were investigated by particle analysis and zeta-potential analysis. And the removal efficiency of copper using nanobubble water(NBW) and distilled water(DW) were compared and analyzed through a batch desorption test. As a result, it is confirmed that nanobubble which was fabricated by compression-dissolution type generator can exist for more than 14 days. The results of batch test show that copper removal of NBW was higher than that of DW irrespectively to soil type and increased as solid-liquid ratio and contact time increased, respectively. According to the pH change, the removal of copper on sand was higher on the acid side but the removal difference was slightly lower on the clay. It is considered that a high efficiency of NBW in copper removal is due to the large surface area and high zeta-potential of nanobubbles. Therefore, the nanobubble can be applied to soil remediation for heavy-metal contaminated soil as an eco-friendly enhancer.

  • As for red pepper seasoning oil (RPSO), seasoning oil (SO) and pine needle oil (PNO), various organic solvent extracts from rosemary powder and tocopherol are treated as control group. At this time, amounts that are treated were all 1,000 ppm. It was observed by AV (acid value), POV (peroxide value) and carbonyl compounds content of the stored samples during 3 months at 60${\pm}$2$^{\circ}C$ incubation. Tocopherol was shown to be pro-oxidant than the antioxidant in all seasoning oil samples. Icreasing effect of storage stability of chloroform/MeOH extract was the most superior one. Final result of icreasing effect of storage stability from the determinated data was as follows. The storage stability of solvent system by AV and POV analysis was in the increasing order of chloroform/MeOH extract> ethyl alcohol extract>hot water extract>ethyl acetate extract>acetone extract>none treating group> tocopherol treating group, POV was chloroform/MeOH extract>ethyl alcohol extract ${\geq}$ ethyl acetate extract> acetone extract ${\geq}$ hot water extract>none treating group>tocopherol treating group and by carbonyl compound content analysis was in the increasing order of chloroform/MeOH extract>ethyl acetate extract>ethyl alcohol extract>hot water extract>acetone extract>none treating group>tocopherol treating group.

  • Flow control devices, such as flow liners, are frequently introduced hi a cavitation tunnel in order to reduce the tunnel blockage effect, when a three-dimensional wake distribution is simulated using a complete ship model or a dummy model. In order to estimate the tunnel wall effect and to evaluate the effect of flow liners on the simulated wake distribution, a surface panel method is adopted for the calculation of the flow around a ship model and flow liners installed in a rectangular test section of a cavitation tunnel. Calculation results on the Sydney Express ship model show that the tunnel wall effect on the hull surface pressure distribution is negligible for less than 5% blockage and can be appreciable for more than 20% blockage. The flow liners accelerate the flow near the after body of the ship model, so that the pressure gradient there becomes more favorable and accordingly the boundary layer thickness would be reduced. Since the resulting wake distribution is assumed to resemble the full scale wake, flow liners can also be used to simulate an estimated full scale wake without modifying the ship model. Boundary layer calculation should be incorporated in order to correlate the calculated wake distribution with tole measured one.

  • This paper presents a design approach for passive vibration control to reduce vertical vibrations transmitted to the control unit during hovering flight of a quadrotor drone. Ground vibration test simulation based on finite element model was performed for forced vibration analysis of the quadrotor drone. First, modal analysis was performed to evaluate dynamic characteristics. Forced vibration response analysis was then performed to obtain the steady-state response within the operating frequency range under the hovering flight condition. Furthermore, to obtain the vibration reduction effect, a viscous damping tape was applied at positions that could induce vibrations transmitted to the control unit under the same conditions. Such a passive vibration control approach was investigated. Relevant vibration reduction effect was assessed with respect to the application of damping materials and the attachment position.

  • The effects of replacement of wheat flour with laver, Pyropia yezoensis, on the bread making properties and quality characteristics of bread were evaluated. The poor baking performance which arose from dried laver addition could be compensated by using exogenous enzymes (Flavouzyme) and baking aids. Laver hydrolysate was prepared by hydrolyzing laver using Flavouzyme for 9 hrs at $50^{\circ}C$. Doughs made by addition of laver hydrolysate (8% dried laver substitution level) showed excellent baking properties. Moreover, with the addition of glucose oxidase and hydro colloidal HPMC, loaf volume and crumb grain were improved for doughs containing laver hydrolysate. Both of intermediate fermentation and final proof time for doughs containing laver hydrolysate was shorter than that for conventional dough.

  • Dampers have been used to dissipate energy in mechanical systems. There are several types of dampers such as passive, active, and semi-active damper. Semi-active dampers have higher performance than passive ones and require less power to operate than active ones. Their damping characteristics can be changed properly for varying conditions. In this paper, we investigated the semi-active damper using Magneto-Rheological fluid. Magneto-Rheological fluid, which is one of controllable fluids, changes its damping and rheological characteristics from Newtonian fluid to Bingham fluid as the magnetic field is applied. It has several advantages such as high yield strength, low viscosity, robustness to impurities and wide temperature range of stability. If we designe a semi-active damper by using this material, we can not only design a simply structured damper but also expect rapid response. In this study, we propose several types of semi-active dampers which are designed and manufactured using Magneto-Rheological fluid and some problems encountered during their applications.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of the laminated rubber bearings (LRBs) for the seismic isolation. The evaluations of the proposed equations of the LRB horizontal stiffness are carried out and these equations are extended to the visco-elastic problems to investigate the damping amplifications of LRBs. The stability evaluation of LRBs is also performed. For investigation of the dynamic characteristics of LRBs, the horizontal stiffness equations of the LRBs considering the P-delta effects are applied to the modeling of a seismically isolated structure and the earthquake response time history analyses are carried out. From this research, the proposed simple equation of the horizontal stiffness of LRB is so useful for the design loads and easily extended to the visco-elastic problems. Through the stability evaluation of LRB, the increasing ratio of the total rubber thickness of the LRB severely decrecises the bucking load than the increasing ratio of unit rubber thickness. From the comparison of the dynamic shear deflection of LRB, the analysis results are in good agreement with those of the experiments.

  • The relative viscosities ηr of anilinium chloride solutions in a series of isopropanol-water mixtures have been determined at $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$and $40^{\circ}$, using Ubbelohde-type viscometers. The viscosity data have been interpreted in terms of viscosity A-and B-coefficients calculated from the Jones-Dole equation,${\eta}{\tau}=1+AC^{1/2}+BC$. The energy of activation for viscous flow have also been calculated according to the concept of rate processes. The results indicate that at $0.10{\sim}0.15$ mole fraction isopropanol the maximum structuredness of water gives a minimum values of viscosity A-and B-coefficients, and that anilinium chloride belongs to the borderline case in respect of the structure-making or structure-breaking effects on water.

  • The methanolic extracts from the elm (Ulmus davidiana var japonica) root barks which have been known as an oriental medicine Eubackpie for the treatment of edema, ulcer and inflammation were examined for their bacteriocidal effects on mastitis pathogens of milk cows. The growth of the pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus sp. No. 12 was markedly inhibited by the chloroform fraction among the extracts, and these antibacterial activities were also supported by MIC test. Water-soluble mucilage was obtained from the root barks with a yield of 36.8~40.2% by dry weight basis. This substance appeared to be a kind of polysaccharide with $61.0{\pm}1.0%$ carbohydrate content, and to have hygroscopic and astringent properties due to its high viscosity and water absorption.
