  • An appropriate determination of time step is one of the important problems in atmospheric modeling. In this study, we investigate the sensitivity of numerical solutions to time step in a nonlinear atmospheric model. For this purpose, a simple nondimensional dynamical model is employed, and numerical experiments are performed with various time steps and nonlinearity factors. Results show that numerical solutions are not sensitive to time step when the nonlinearity factor is not influentially large and truncation error is negligible. On the other hand, when the nonlinearity factor is large (i.e., in a highly nonlinear regime), numerical solutions are found to be sensitive to time step. In this situation, smaller time step increases the intensity of the spatial filter, which makes small-scale phenomena weaken. This conflicts with the fact that smaller time step generally results in more accurate numerical solutions owing to reduced truncation error. This conflict is inevitable because the spatial filter is necessary to stabilize the numerical solutions of the nonlinear model.

  • Due to the large scale application of software systems, software reliability plays an important role in software developments. In this paper, a software reliability growth model (SRGM) is proposed for testing time. The testing time on the right is truncated in this model. The intensity function, mean-value function, reliability of the software, estimation of parameters and the special applications of Pareto NHPP model are discussed. This paper, a numerical example of applying using time between failures and parameter estimation using maximum likelihood estimation method, after the efficiency of the data through trend analysis model selection, depended on difference between predictions and actual values, were efficient using the mean square error and $R_{SQ}$.

  • This study presents an analysis of periodic heat diffusion in an annular fin with uniform thickness. When the temperature of the fin base is changed in the form of a sinusoidal function, the exact temperature solution can be obtained by Laplace transformation in terms of the dimensionless parameters in the infinite series. Local heat flux and average heat flux, local fin efficiency and average fin efficiency were obtained. Particularly, the table of eigenvalues that are the indispensable condition in solving the heat transfer problem of annular fin in a transient state with convection phenomena at the fin edge is provided. The tables of heat fluxes and average heat fluxes, fin efficiencies and average fin efficiencies are also provided from the computed results. Also, substituting the variations of dimensionless parameters into the these exact solutions, the characteristics of these response are investigated.

  • Carry lookahead(CLA) circuitry of decimal adders is proposed aiming at delay reduction. The truncation error in calculation of monetary interests may accumulate yielding a substantial amount of errors. Binary Coded Decimal(BCD) additions. for example, eliminate the truncation error in a fractional representation of decimal numbers. The proposed BCD carry lookahead scheme is aiming at the speed improvements without any truncation errors in the addition of decimal fractions. The delay estimation of the BCD CLA is demonstrated with improved performance in addition. Further reduction in delay can be achieved introducing non-weighted number system such as the excess-3 code.

  • Characteristics of a piezoelectric material are evaluated to pick up the optimal crystal cut and propagation direction for a SAW device. For the piezoelectric single crystal $LiTaO_4$, such items are investigated as the Rayleigh wave velocity, the electromechanical coupling factor, the surface permittivity, the frequency-temperature coefficient, the air loading attenuation, the pure mode propagation, the beam steering and the misalignment sensitivity. Theoretical calculations reveal that Y-cut and Z-propagation is the optimal SAW propagation path. The results are confirmed through experiments. The method empolyed in this paper is applicable to other crystals, too, either single or poly crystals.

  • This paper presents the monitoring method of machining error and quality check to improve the productivity of boring manufacturing process. Machining error usually appears as the offset of spatial location of actual cutting path compared to ideal cutting path. In order to monitor an error of workpiece, multiple factors affecting quality of boring, such as distortion of workpiece, clamping error, radial rotation error of the spindle and motion error of machine tools, were took into account. To verify the productive quality, we propose the quality check system. The system based on IT convergence analyzes the process error rate and saves the analyzed data in memory. Also, these play important roles in detecting an inferior production goods and can decrease the production cost and loss of bearing.

  • When there exists a change-point in hazard function, it should be estimated for exact parameter or hazard estimation. In this research, we compare the hazard change-point estimators. Matthews and Farewell (1982) parametric change-point estimator is based on the likelihood and Zhang et al. (2014) nonparametric estimator is based on the Nelson-Aalen cumulative hazard estimator. Simulation study is done for the data from exponential distribution with one hazard change-point. The simulated data generated without censoring and the data with right censoring are considered. As real data applications, the change-point estimates are computed for leukemia data and primary biliary cirrhosis data.

  • As there is no failure data for the entire lifecycle of a product, when analyzing reliability measures based on early failure data only, there may be a significant error between the estimated mean life and the real one, because it can be underestimated, or on the other hand, it can be overestimated when analyzing reliability measures based on a large amount of censored data with the failure data. To resolve the issue, this study proposes an optimal sampling estimation procedure that selects the proportion of censored data to estimate the optimal distribution with the idea that the estimated distribution could be approximated as closely as the real life distribution. This would work if we sampled the optimal proportion on the censored data, because failure data has real intrinsic distribution in any situation. We validate the proposed procedure using an actual example. If the proposed method is applied to the maintenance policy of TWC (Train to Wayside Communication) system, then we can establish the optimal maintenance policy. Thus, we expect that it will be effective for improvement of reliability and cost savings.

  • The three dimensional measuring method with minimizing operational errors for the arbitrary shaped-internal cavity based on the information of the X-ray nondestructive test is presented. Two experimental tests using artificial cavities were considered in order to verify the availity of PEVACA. In these test, X-ray NDT was conducted for detecting cavities, and the comparion between the calculating values from PEVACA and the real values from measuring the cavities was performed. As a result of this study, three dimensional cavities information using PEVACA are in good agreement with the real measured values within ${\pm}0.5mm$. The computer code, "PEVACA", contributes not only to improvement of data accuracy but also to saving of the work time and data documentation.

  • As an estimator of the conditional probability of discovering a new species at the next observation after a sample of certain size is taken, the one proposed by Good(1953) has been most widely used. Recently, Clayton and Frees(1987) showed via simulation that their nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator(NPMLE) has smaller MSE than Good's estimator when the population is relatively nonuniform. Lee(1989) proved that their conjecture is asymptotically true for truncated geometric population distributions. One shortcoming of the NPMLE, however, is that it has a considerable amount of negative bias. In this study we proposed a bias-corrected version of the NPMLE for virtually all realistic population distributions. We also showed that it has a smaller asymptotic MSE than Good's extimator except when the population is very uniform. A Monte Carlo simulation was performed for small sample sizes, and the result supports the asymptotic results.
