  • Learning graphical representations for statistical data requires understanding of the context related to measurement in statistical investigation since the choice of representation and the features of the selected graph to represent the data are determined by the purpose and context of data collection and the types of the data collected. This study investigated whether middle school students can think critically about measurement and scales integrating contextual knowledge and statistical knowledge. According to our results, the students lacked critical thinking related to measurement process of data and scales of graphical representations. In particular, the students had a tendency not to question upon information provided from data and graphs. They also lacked competence to critique data and graphs and to make a flexible judgement in light of context including statistical purpose.

  • Military wargame simulation models must support the HLA in order to facilitate interoperability with other simulations, and using parallel simulation engines offer efficiency in reducing system overhead generated by propelling interoperability. However, legacy military simulation model engines process events using sequential event-driven method. This is due to problems generated by parallel processing such as synchronous reference to global data domains. Additionally. using legacy simulation platforms result in insufficient utilization of multiple CPUs even if a multiple CPU system is under use. Therefore, in this paper, we propose conversing the simulation engine to an object model-based parallel simulation engine to ensure military wargame model's improved system processing capability, synchronous reference to global data domains, external simulation time processing, and the sequence of parallel-processed events during a crash recovery. The converted parallel simulation engine is designed and implemented to enable parallel execution on a multiple CPU system (SMP).

  • It is well known that, in the near future, the lifetime of the IPv4 address space will be limited and available 32-bit IP network addresses will not be left any more. In order to solve such IPv4 address space problem in an effective way, the transition to the new version using IPv6 architecture is inevitably required. At present, it is impossible to convert IPv4 into IPv6 at a time, since the coverage and the size of today's Internet is too huge. Therefore, the coexistence of both IPv4 and IPv6 must be arranged in a special and practical fashion for rapid conversion on the whole. IP protocol translation has been proposed to ease the translation of the Internet from IPv4 to IPv6. This paper presents the design and implementation of a transparent transition service that translates packet header as they cross between IPv4 and IPv6 networks. IPv4/IPv6 Translation Protocol is written in c source code and is tested by the local test recommended by ISO, which has the most excellent error detection function. The test was processed with a test scenario and it was found that the results were successful.

  • This study is based on place attachment theory, explores how to transform tourists' virtual experience into on-site tourism willingness through virtual attachment, And explores the moderating role of happiness in it. A real travel intention model is constructed for people who work in tourism or have the ability to travel alone. Analyzed through analysis tools such as SPSS and AMOS, We hope to explore if the virtual experience can be transformed into a willingness to travel on the ground, and how happiness moderates virtual attachment to virtual tourism experiences. The result shows, the relationship between Virtual Travel Experience and Virtual Attachment is moderated by Happiness, Virtual Attachment is positively related to Place Attachment (Place dependence & Place identity), Place Attachment is positively related to Real Travel Intention. The relationship between tourists and tourist destinations is explored in depth through this study to provide references and suggestions for tourism development.

  • Intraspecific diploid androgenesis was achieved in mud loach (Misgurnus mizolepis) by the inhibition of the first mitotic division using combined thermal treatment. A combined thermal treatment (heat shock at $40.5\;^{\circ}C$ for 120 sec followed by cold treatment at $1\;^{\circ}C$ for 45 min) applied to the 1st metaphase of cell division (28 min post insemination at $25\;^{\circ}C$) successfully recovered viable androgenetic diploidy. Mean hatching success of the androgenetic diploid group was 29.6%, and the average yield out of total eggs taken was about 7% assessed at 1 week of age. However, relatively large variations in the yield of diploid androgenesis were observed among different egg batches used as cytoplasmic donors. Successful diploidization was confirmed by flow cytometric analysis, and parthenogenic reproduction in a paternal exclusive manner was verified with transgene dosage. Significant mortality was found in most androgenetic groups especially from hatch to 1 month of age, although such mortality was stabilized later.

  • This paper describes a new objective methodology of seismic building damage assessment which is called Advanced Component Method(ACM). ACM is a major attempt to replace the conventional loss estimation procedure, which is based on subjective measures and the opinions of experts, with one that objectively measures both earthquake intensity and the response ol buildings. First, response of typical buildings is obtained analytically by nonlinear seismic static analysis, push-over analyses. The spectral displacement Is used as a measure of earthquake intensity in order to use Capacity Spectrum Method and the damage functions for each building component, both structural and non-structural, are developed as a function of component deformation. Examples of components Include columns, beams, floors, partitions, glazing, etc. A repair/replacement cost model is developed that maps the physical damage to monetary damage for each component. Finally, building response, component damage functions, and cost model were combined probabilistically, using Wonte Carlo simulation techniques, to develop the final damage functions for each building type. Uncertainties in building response resulting from variability in material properties and load assumptions were incorporated in the Latin Hypercube sampling technique. The paper also presents and compares ACM and conventional building loss estimation based on historical damage data and reported loss data.

  • This work carried out to analyze the physicochemical properties and investigate the assessment of heavy metal contamination of stream sediments of the Yudeung and the Gab streams in the Daejeon area. The pH of stream sediments of the Yudeung stream shows the range of weak acid and weak alkaline. Most of stream sediments contain about 80% sand grain and have low water and cation retention capacity. Hence the stream sediments are not suitable fur various plans to grow up. The analysis of heavy metals in the stream sediments shows that the concentration of Pb, Cr and Cd increases from upstream to down stream. It is likely that the trend has a relationship with the water. Contamination of stream water. The authors recommend that clay materials be replenished in the stream sediments to increase the self-purification capacity and to make the suitable condition for growing up of various plants, and that water quality of the stream which can Influence into the contamination of stream sediments be monitored.

  • Effects of two types of formula designed for commercial product on forced-swimming capacity and related biochemical parameters of Sprague-Dawley rats were evaluated. Treatment groups were fed diet supplemented with 4.56% formula A (EFA: exercise-trained and formula A-supplemented group) or B (EFB: exercise-trained and formula B-supplemented group) for 4 weeks. All groups were regularly trained twice a week to be accustomed to swimming. After 4 weeks, each group was divided into two subgroups: 90 min swimming (90-min subgroups) and swimming until exhaustion (all-out subgroups). Serum was collected, and skeletal muscles were dissected out after swimming. Forced-swimming time until exhaustion was significantly longer (p<0.05) in EFA and EFB groups than that of exercised control group. Among 90-min subgroups, serum ammonia level of EFB group was significantly lower than that of exercised control group (p<0.05). Among all-out subgroups, serum lactate levels were not significantly different among exercised control and treatment groups, whereas serum-free fatty acid levels of EFA and EFB groups were significantly lower than that of exercised control group (p<0.05). In conclusion, EFA and EFB groups enhanced forced swimming capacity of rats by increasing fat utilization and delaying accumulation of serum fatigue factor.
