Cell Coverage Based on Calculation of the Voice-Data Erlang Capacity in a WCDMA Reverse Link with Multi-rate Traffic (WCDMA 역방향 링크에서 다중속도 트래픽에 따른 음성/데이터 얼랑용량 계산과 셀 커버리지)

  • A scheme to evaluate the number of users and cell coverage of a WCDMA supporting multi-rate traffic is newly presented through calculation of the realizable Erlang capacity from a derived blocking probability and the path loss from the COST231 Walfisch-Ikegami(W) model. We evaluate the voice-data Erlang capacities at various data rates of 15 kbps to 960 kbps and it is shown that they have a linear relationship to each other. When the E$\_$b//N$\_$o/ is low from 4 ㏈ to 3 ㏈ in case of voice capacity of 50 Erlang at 8 kbps, the result shows the increase for the data capacity of 10 Erlang and the enlargement of 100 m for the cell coverage at low rate of 15 kbps, and the increase of 0.11 Erlang and the enlargement of 40 m at high rate of 960 kbps. The increase of the blocking probability results in the increase of the Erlang capacity, but not an effect on the cell coverage, and the increase of active users in a cell results in the decrease of the coverage.

Effectiveness of Online Learning Tools in College Education: Experiments in Physical Geography (자연지리 강좌를 대상으로 한 온라인 러닝의 효과 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to quantitatively evaluate the effectiveness of learning management systems (LMS) in the physical geography class. The study adopted the experimental design and three classes participated in this study. The first class was controlled using only classroom lectures, the second class used PPT slides along with the classroom lectures, and the third class used online video clips along with the lectures. The experiments were conducted from the Spring Semester 2007 to the Spring Semester 2008 for the introductory physical geography course. The study results showed that online learning tools help students improve academic performance and their attitudes towards the class and the instructor. Compared to simple PowerPoint slides, voice recording attached to the visual lecture slide materials enhanced students' motivation. Class lectures with lecture slides did not improve students' scores. However, when the visual materials were combined with voice recording, the number of internet access to online class materials increased, and class attendance and students' final grades were improved. Based on the results, the instructional design model that combines classroom and online learning was suggested.

  • Social commerce is a new internet business model which are types of joint purchase, social link, promotion, and on-off association etc. The recent public organization has the dual target to increase sound finance, and to improve customer satisfaction and the quality of public service. The purpose of this study is to propose the strategy of public social commerce which makes it's customers become positive purchasers. We analyzed 31 public organizations, and found that the type of social link interlocking with SNS site in the various purpose of public, and the offline association type using the service of location base would be utilized very highly. We also found that the joint purchase type and the promotion type would be used in the area of public and private selective services intending to make a profit. The anticipated performance are as follows: rapidity and reliance, customer made thing and goodwill, convenience for the service environment quality, publicity and diffusion, and sales promotion, productivity increase and new finding of revenue model for the profit increase outcome.

Efficient Prediction of Broadband Noise of a Centrifugal Fan Using U-FRPM Technique (U-FRPM 기법을 이용한 원심팬 광대역소음의 효율적 예측)

  • Recently, a lot of studies have been made about the methods used to generate turbulent velocity fields stochastically in order to effectively predict broadband flow noise. Among them, the FRPM (Fast Random Particle Mesh) method which generates turbulence with specific statistical properties using turbulence kinetic energy and dissipation obtained from the steady solution of the RANS (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations has been successfully applied. However, the FRPM method cannot be applied to the flow noise problems involving intrinsic unsteady characteristics such as centrifugal fan. In this paper, to effectively predict the broadband noise generated by centrifugal fan, U-FRPM (unsteady FRPM) method is developed by extending the FRPM method to be combined with the unsteady numerical solutions of the unsteady RANS equations to generate the turbulence considered as broadband noise sources. Firstly, an unsteady flow field is obtained from the unsteady RANS equations through CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). Then, noise sources are generated using the U-FRPM method combined with acoustic analogy. Finally, the linear propagation model which is realized through BEM (Boundary Element Method) is combined with the generated sources to predict broadband noise at the listeners' position. The proposed technique is validated to compare its prediction result with the measured data.

Erlang Capacity and Cell Coverage Based on Handoff Techniques in the Reverse Link of a CDMA System of 14.4 kbps/1.9 GHz Band (1.9 GHz 대역/14.4 kbps CDMA 시스템의 역방향 링크에서 핸드오프 유형별 얼랑용량과 셀커버리지)

  • We derive the outage probabilities for the Erlang capacity and link margin based on handoffs in the reverse link of a CDMA system of 14.4 kbps/1.9 GHz band, calculate them with the same parameters, and then with the maximum realizable Erlang capacity analyze newly the cell coverage in different areas by the COST-231 model If it decreases from 5 % to 2 % in case of $E_b/N_0$=5 dB under a soft handoff, the result shows a very reliable link with additional increment of 0.88 dB in the margin and a high quality of service within the coverage decrease of 0.12 km, 0.25 km, and 1 km in a city, suburban, and open areas respectively on the decrease of 2 Erlang in the capacity. When the $E_b/N_0$ decreases from 7 dB to 5 dB within the outage probability of 5 %, it shows the increase of 9 Erlang and of 0.2 km in a city on the same margin of 2.8 dB. Then, comparing it with a single cell, it shows the decrease of more than 10 Erlang in the capacity, but the enlargement of 0.17 km, 0.3 km, and 1 km in them on the margin decrease of 1.31 dB, also, with a hard handoff, the soft handoff gain of the increase of 10 Erlang and of 0.22 km, 0.5 km, and 2 km on the decrease of 2.16 dB.

Calculation of the Electromagnetic Wave Ields Near Electric Power Lines (전력선로 근방의 전자파 전자계 계산)

  • In this study electromagnetic fields near electric power lines were derived by dipole antenna theory and electromagnetic fields near 3 phase power lines with vertical configurations were formulated and could be computed easily using these formula. It seems that those formula could be applicable to the consideration of electromagnetic fields during the design of transmission and distribution lines. Those formulated equations on elements of electromagnetic fields were applied to the model of a transmission-line system and were calculated by Matlab programs. The calculation results are follows. For variation of horizontal distance profiles of $E_y$ and $B_z$ are same each other, and also those of $B_y$ and $E_z$ are same each other. This means that coupled elements of E and B are perpendicular each other and have the propagation direction of the right-hand system such as $x{\rightarrow}E_y{\rightarrow}B_z$. Resultant electric field E is dominated by the element $E_y$ and resultant magnetic field B is dominated by the element $B_z$.

Power Generation Cost Comparison of Nuclear and Coal Power Plants in Year 2001 under Future Korean Environmental Regulations -Sensitivity and Uncertainty Analysis- (미래의 한국의 환경규제여건에 따른 2001년도의 원자력과 석탄화력 발전단가비교 -민감도와 불확실도 분석-)

  • To analyze the impact of air pollution control on electricity generation cost, a computer program was developed. POGEN calculates levelized discounted power generation cost including additional air pollution control cost for coal power plant. Pollution subprogram calculates total capital and variable costs using governing equations for flue gas control. The costs are used as additional input for levelized discounted power generation cost subprogram. Pollution output for Rue Gas Desulphurization direct cost was verified using published cost data of well experienced industrialized countries. The power generation costs for the year 2001 were estimated by POGEN for three different regulatory scenarios imposed on coal power plant, and by levelized discounted power generation cost subprogram for nuclear power. Because of uncertainty expected in input variables for future plants, sensitivity and uncertainty analysis were made to check the importance and uncertainty propagation of the input variables using Latin Hypercube Sampling and Multiple Least Square method. Most sensitive parameter for levelized discounted power generation cost is discount rate for both nuclear and coal. The control cost for flue gas alone reaches additional 9-11 mills/kWh with standard deviation less than 1.3 mills/kWh. This cost will be nearly 20% of power generation cost and 40% of one GW capacity coal power plant investment cost. With 90% confidence, the generation cost of nuclear power plant will be 32.6-51.9 mills/kWh, and for the coal power plant it will be 45.5-50.5 mills/kWh. Nuclear is favorable with 95% confidence under stringent future regulatory requirement in Korea.

Design Optimization of Differential FPCB Transmission Line for Flat Panel Display Applications (평판디스플레이 응용을 위한 차동 FPCB 전송선 설계 최적화)

  • This paper addresses the analysis and the design optimization of differential interconnects for Low-Voltage Differential Signaling (LVDS) applications. Thanks to the differential transmission and the low voltage swing, LVDS offers high data rates and improved noise immunity with significantly reduced power consumption in data communications, high-resolution display, and flat panel display. We present an improved model and new equations to reduce impedance mismatch and signal degradation in cascaded interconnects using optimization of interconnect design parameters such as trace width, trace height and trace space in differential flexible printed circuit board (FPCB) transmission lines. We have carried out frequency-domain full-wave electromagnetic simulations, time-domain transient simulations, and S-parameter simulations to evaluate the high-frequency characteristics of the differential FPCB interconnects. The 10% change in trace width produced change of approximately 6% and 5.6% in differential impedance for trace thickness of $17.5{\mu}m$ and $35{\mu}m$, respectively. The change in the trace space showed a little change. We believe that the proposed approach is very helpful to optimize high-speed differential FPCB interconnects for LVDS applications.

Error Analysis of Waterline-based DEM in Tidal Flats and Probabilistic Flood Vulnerability Assessment using Geostatistical Simulation (지구통계학적 시뮬레이션을 이용한 수륙경계선 기반 간석지 DEM의 오차 분석 및 확률론적 침수 취약성 추정)

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze the spatial distribution of errors in the DEM generated using waterlines from multi-temporal remote sensing data and to assess flood vulnerability. Unlike conventional research in which only global statistics of errors have been generated, this paper tries to quantitatively analyze the spatial distribution of errors from a probabilistic viewpoint using geostatistical simulation. The initial DEM in Baramarae tidal flats was generated by corrected tidal level values and waterlines extracted from multi-temporal Landsat data in 2010s. When compared with the ground measurement height data, overall the waterline-based DEM underestimated the actual heights and local variations of the errors were observed. By applying sequential Gaussian simulation based on spatial autocorrelation of DEM errors, multiple alternative error distributions were generated. After correcting errors in the initial DEM with simulated error distributions, probabilities for flood vulnerability were estimated under the sea level rise scenarios of IPCC SERS. The error analysis methodology based on geostatistical simulation could model both uncertainties of the error assessment and error propagation problems in a probabilistic framework. Therefore, it is expected that the error analysis methodology applied in this paper will be effectively used for the probabilistic assessment of errors included in various thematic maps as well as the error assessment of waterline-based DEMs in tidal flats.

Hybrid All-Reduce Strategy with Layer Overlapping for Reducing Communication Overhead in Distributed Deep Learning (분산 딥러닝에서 통신 오버헤드를 줄이기 위해 레이어를 오버래핑하는 하이브리드 올-리듀스 기법)

  • Since the size of training dataset become large and the model is getting deeper to achieve high accuracy in deep learning, the deep neural network training requires a lot of computation and it takes too much time with a single node. Therefore, distributed deep learning is proposed to reduce the training time by distributing computation across multiple nodes. In this study, we propose hybrid allreduce strategy that considers the characteristics of each layer and communication and computational overlapping technique for synchronization of distributed deep learning. Since the convolution layer has fewer parameters than the fully-connected layer as well as it is located at the upper, only short overlapping time is allowed. Thus, butterfly allreduce is used to synchronize the convolution layer. On the other hand, fully-connecter layer is synchronized using ring all-reduce. The empirical experiment results on PyTorch with our proposed scheme shows that the proposed method reduced the training time by up to 33% compared to the baseline PyTorch.
