Effects of Easy Understanding of Library User Interface on the Use of Electronic Materials in a Virtual Academic Library (사용자인터페이스의 이해용이성이 전자도서관 자료이용에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigates whether easy understanding of user interface could affect the use of electronic materials in a virtual academic library. The user interface of Duksung Women's University Library was analysed in terms of label description and array of menus. The frequencies of menu use were collected by analysis of use log files after modified user interface was applied. Clear label descriptions of link menus and sub-menus of electronic material searches significantly contributed to the increase of number of user clicks on the modified menus. This study reveals that the more clearly menu labels are described, the more frequently users click the menus on the academic library user interface.

  • In the electronic records environment, along with discussions on ways to digitize analog records, it is important to prepare preservation strategies for each type of records produced and received electronically. In the same context, there is a need for discussion on applying a preservation format selection system with the goal of long-term preservation of data sets and audio-visual type electronic records other than document types. Audiovisual records must apply preservation strategies appropriate to the characteristics of each medium, such as images, audio, and video. This study establishes unique standards for selecting a preservation format for audio-visual electronic records through analysis of Significant Properties based on literature review, composed audio-type preservation format suitability evaluation items, and proposed a recommended format based on the results of applying them.

  • The surface fine structures of Ixodes persulcatus (Schulze, 1930) male and female specimens were observed by means of a scanning electron microscope. A brief review on the biology of the ticks and their disease relationships was also presented. 1. The sexual dimorphism of the specimen was marked; the male was quite smaller than the female. 2. The genital groove was well developed and deep, the anal groove was distinct and characteristically extending anteriorly around the anus. 3. The 4th article was much reduced and situated on the top of the 3rd article ventrally. The hypostome dentition was usually 3/3. 4. The bottom of the basis capitulum of the male specimen was strictly straight in shape. 5. This species was regarded as one of the most important vectors for infectious diseases of migrating birds.

  • This paper proposes that people with disability can be successfully supported by smart homes only when their needs of the technological interventions are understood and integrated in traditional universal design. Understanding the patient's home environment is an integral part of treatment and discharge planning. This paper suggests on architectural barriers commonly found in the home, ways to eliminate them and a general overview of methods for assessment and intervention. It is expected that the electronics, information and communication technology can be an alternative of traditional universal designs for motor dysfucntion, sensory dysfunction and cognitive dysfunction.

  • In today's business environments, corporate globalization and collaboration in an industry are strongly required. In order to cope with such requirements, the industry's informationization must be made. However, compared to large-sized companies, the SMEs(small and medium-sized enterprises) have inferior capacities for their organizational information due to limited management resources. Among many factors for promoting information in SMEs, one of the most factors is CEO's intention. Thus, this paper discusses the promotion policies for infomationization in SMEs from the perspective of CEO's intention. Based upon the survey results, the paper proposes some information promotion policies for SMEs.

  • In this paper, we describe the development of a finite-element model for seismic qualification. This paper presents finite-element analysis model of the electronic enclosure to be used at Arkansas nuclear power plant, USA. The verified model predicts natural frequencies within 5% error for all major modes below 50 Hz. The finite element lumped mass approach and the finite element stiffness approach using the COSMOSM finite element code is applied for static, eigenvalue, and dynamic analyses of the mathematical model of this system. The FEM model indicates that the stress levels corresponding to the specified loading conditions are below the allowable stress levels that have been specified in the AISC Code. The findings conclude that the electronic enclosure will withstand the seismic levels stated in the reference documents.

  • In this study, several issues of engineering education of Korea were pointed out through the survey for industrial employees in the areas of civil, chemical and electronics engineering. For the area of civil engineering, a questionnaire based upon the outcomes of ABEEK(accreditation board for engineering education of Korea) was developed for the survey, and the replies from the survey were then analyzed. For the areas of chemical and electronics engineering, data obtained from the literature study were used for analyses. The results of analyses show that the level of engineering education is much lower than that of the industrial demand in the case of all three divisions. It shows the urgency in improvement of engineering education.

  • Hypermedia systems have the browsing mechanism using links and provide navigation tools to retrieve and represent multimedia information. In this study we designed and implemented a hypermedia system which has the hierarchical group and local map for effective navigation. We also propose the clustering mechanism which constructs a cluster tree and uses this knowledge for navigation. The system has been designed to integrate the browsing and searching function of the hypermedia system for efficient multimedia information retrieval and user-interface. This system can be used to develop hypermedia application systems in the area of encyclopedia, reference document information, electronic dictionary and electronic book.

  • The boundary element method was newly implemented into an optical lithography simulator so that it could evaluate rigorously the topological effects of 2dimensional phase-shifting masks. Both transparent and periodic boundary conditions were applied for the method, and the continuity conditions were used for treating interface nodes. The accuracy of the module developed for simulating aerial images was verified by comparison with analytic solutions and published results. In addition, it was found that our simulator would be more efficient than the conventional method based on the rigorous coupled wave analysis in views of the convergence and the calculation speed. Finally, the optimal design of two phase-shifting masks was performed.
