A Comparative Study of the Shielding Performance of Uniforms using Electromagnetic Wave Shielding Materials Currently on the Market for Workers at Korea Railroad Corporation (전자파 고노출 직업군의 근무환경 조사 및 시판 전자기파 차폐소재를 이용한 철도 근무복의 차폐성능 연구)

  • This study set out to develop clothes made of electromagnetic wave shielding materials. Among the various worker groups exposed to electromagnetic waves for long hours, railroad workers were chosen for the study. After selecting the locations they worked, the investigator measured electromagnetic wave on the field. To examine the effects of electromagnetic wave shielding materials, I applied a lining made of electromagnetic wave shielding materials to the existing work clothes. The first experimental clothes had the silver fabric for the lining in the current working clothes, the second experimental clothes had the copper- and nickel-plate polyester placed between the outer and the lining to prevent the corrosive material from contacting the skin, and the third experimental clothes had the silver fabric for the lining and the copper- and nickel-plate polyester between the outer and the lining. The results indicate that even if a fabric is evaluated to shield electromagnetic waves after tests, it cannot completely shield electromagnetic waves emitting from everyday appliances of 60Hz. Therefore, there should be ongoing development and research efforts on fabrics that can shield electromagnetic waves to a certain degree in order to develop working clothes to alleviate fatigue for those who are constantly exposed to electromagnetic waves, relieve their anxiety, offer them psychological stability and thus help them increase job efficiency.

An Experimental Study on Construction Efficiency of High-Frequency Arc Metal Spray Machine (고주파 아크 금속용사 장치의 시공성능 평가에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The arc thermal metal spraying method (ATMSM) has been used in Korea to improve the electromagnetic pulse (EMP) shielding effect of building and infrastructure by three machines of MS, KMS and HMS (Metal Spray, Korea Metal Spray, High-frequency Meta Spray). The adhesion ability of sprayed metal was found to be 58.32, 64.66 and 87.62% for MS, KMS and HMS, respectively. The metal sprayed area per hour of MS, KMS and HMS was calculated and found to be 14.3, 19.25 and 22.16㎡/h, respectively. The HMS showed the highest metal spray area attributed to the diameter of metal wire i.e. 1.6mm which sprayed 80 mm with 18 m/min. There was minimum loss of metal and the highest efficiency by HMS compared to others. Therefore, it is suggested to use HMS for metal spraying by ATMSM to enhance the EMP shielding effect.

  • In this paper, the concept of sustainability was applied to mechanical design and manufacturing of mobile-phone case. A new evaluation method to find products' good and weak point for sustainability was developed. Two mobile phones were evaluated using the evaluation tool. As a result, electro-magnetic (EM) wave was considered as a harmful factor of the products, and improved front panel was made using nano particles that absorb EM waves. The EM shielding tests revealed that silver nano powders absorbed EM while MWCNT had no effect.

  • In this study, it evaluate the electromagnetic pulse shielding performance of amorphous metallic fiber reinforced cement composite with other steel fiber reinforced cement composite. Hooked-ended steel fiber, smooth steel fiber and amorphous metallic fiber were reinforced 2.0 vol.% in cement composites respectively. The electromagnetic pulse shielding performance was evaluated by MIL-STD-188-125-1. As a result, shielding performance of amorphous metallic fiber reinforced cement composite was higher than Hooked-ended and smooth steel fiber reinforced cement composites. In addition, the relationship between the electrical conductivity and the electromagnetic pulse shielding performance of the cement composite was confirmed.

  • 일반적인 PDP (Plasma display panel)용 전도성 저방출(low-e) 필터는 유리 기판 위에 굴절률이 높은 금속 산화물 유전체 박막과 Ag와 같은 귀금속 박막이 번갈아 쌓인 [유전체|금속(Ag)|유전체]가 기본 구조인 다층 박막의 형태로 개발되어 왔다. Ag는 가시광선 영역에서 다른 금속보다 작은 흡수를 보이고 전도성이 뛰어나 전자파 차페용 필터의 전도성 박막으로 널리 쓰인다. 그리고 이러한 구조에서 가시광선의 높은 투과율을 유지하면서 유해 전자기파를 차폐할 수 있도록 충분한 전도성을 갖추기 위해서는 2층 이상의 Ag 박막이 존재하도록 설계되며 유전체 박막과 금속 박막 사이에 1∼2 nm 정도의 매우 얇은 금속 보호 층을 사용한다.   • Characteristics of exhaust from chimney of electricity generator are analyzed based on CFD when Waveguide-Below-Cutoff (WBC) array is installed in order to achieve the certain level of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) shielding. The main purpose is prediction of average and maximum velocity of exhaust. The results reveal that: 1) When the specification of waveguide is given as 80-diameter, 400-length, and the gap of 20 mm, the shielding effectiveness (SE) is 140dB. The average and maximum velocity of exhaust in the chimney with WBC Array can be represented as exponential functions. 2) As the number of WBC increases, the velocity in the chimney dwindles. 3) Under the situation that WBC with 80 mm diameter is located at intervals of 20 mm, the average velocity can be approximated by $25.5344{\times}e^{(-0.0098{\times}N_{WBC})}$ with input velocity of 15 m/s. In addition, the determination coefficient is 0.915, which is sufficiently high.

  • In this study, we evaluated the flow characteristics of various types of waveguide-below-cutoff (WBC) arrays and their shielding effectiveness (SE) of electromagnetic pulses (EMP) based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Three types of waveguides were selected for analysis: (1) grid type, (2) honeycomb type, and (3) multi-layer types (2-ply, 4-ply, 6-ply, and 8-ply). To analyze the air flow characteristics, the flow velocities in the longitudinal center of the WBC and the differential pressures between the WBC array inlet and outlet were evaluated. Consequently, we derive the following conclusions: (1) despite an increase in the inlet velocity, the pressure drop of the 6-ply multi-layer type did not significantly increase as compared to that of other types of waveguides (waveguide thickness of 0.1 mm, SE of 100 dB); (2) the grid and honeycomb type had the fastest flow rate of 17.5 m/s, which is approximately 2.5 m/s faster than that at the inlet (waveguide thickness of 1 mm, module size of 30 mm); and (3) the average pressure drop of the grid type waveguide is the lowest in the overall model, whereas that of the 8-ply is the highest (waveguide thickness of 1 mm, module size of 30 mm, and SE of 80, 100 dB).

  • 태양에너지는 전자기파로써 파장에 따라 여러 부분으로 나뉜다. 파장이 780nm 이상인 부분의 영역을 IR (infra Red) 즉 적외선으로 불린다. 이 부분이 열선에 해당하는 부분인데 대부분의 창문에 설치된 커튼이나 vertical 등은 빛을 차단하는 수단일 뿐, 유입되는 열 (적외선)을 차단시킬 수는 없다. 열은 결국 실내의 온도를 높이기 때문에 난방비 등 에너지 손실을 막긴 어렵다. 단열필름은 커튼이나 vertical과 달리 실내로 유입되는 열 (적외선)을 다시 실외로 반사시켜 실내로 유입되는 열을 최소화 한다. 본 연구는 IR 차폐를 목적으로 연구 되었고, 거기서 한 발 나아가 실내 분위기 등을 고려하여 소비자의 구호에 맞는 제품에 더 맞추기 위해 연구되었다. 기존 제품들과 차별된 점은 색상을 위한 추가적인 작업없이 굴절률과 두께 factor 등을 변화시켜 바로 7가지 색을 구현한다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 가격 경쟁력에서도 우위를 점 할 수 있는 중요한 기술이라 할 수 있겠다. 박막제조 장비로는 DC pulse In-line Sputter를 사용하였으며, 굴절률과 광학적인 두께 측정을 위한 ellipsometer, 그리고 UV-vis 를 통한 Transmittance 측정으로 제품 능력을 확인하였다.

  • Electromagnetic shielding sheet using the carbon and wood fiber mixture was manufactured in an effort to develop an electromagnetic shielding packaging material. Carbon fibers were cut into 5, 10, and 15 mm using the automatic cutting device and blown and dispersed using compression air passed through the fine nozzle. Then carbon fibers were slurried with water (0.1% consistency), and softwood kraft pulp along with cone starch were added. The wet mats were manufactured by dewatering in modified hand-sheet machine. The wet mats were pressed upto $4kgf/cm^2$ in the carbon and wood fiber mixture mat press. The wet mats were dried in the automatic controlled plate dryer. Investigation on the formation and surface structure of the newly developed carbon and wood fiber mixture electromagnetic shielding sheet were carried out using the scanning electron microscopy and the image analyzer. Finally electromagnetic shielding characteristics of the newly developed carbon and wood mixture sheet were measured using net-work analyser. The result was promising in the light of the fact that this method could open a new way to substitute the expensive imported electromagnetic shielding sheet.

  • The electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is very essential for commercial and military purposes. We fabricated multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT)/epoxy composites and studied the electromagnetic characteristics of the composites before we study the characteristics of MWNT-added glass fiber-reinforced composites. After setting up the fabrication process, we measured the permittivity of MWNT/epoxy composites with process variables and MWNT concentrations in X-band (8.2GHz~12.4GHz). We also observed re-aggregation phenomenon of MWNTs and investigated its effect on the permittivity. The permittivity of the composites was influenced by the degree of dispersion of MWNTs and increased almost linearly as MWNT concentration increases.
