  • Local culture is a cultural heritage that has come down from generation to generation in the natural environment of a region. It includes history, tradition, natural features, art, and historic relics. The Academy of Korean Studies has complied "The Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture" using those local culture contents. Local culture content shave the features of documentary, such as authenticating the source, and managing hierarchy structure. Thus, to deal with local culture contents, a "circular knowledge information management system" is sought for that helps basic, fragmentary, and high-level information to circulate to create new knowledge information within the system. A user of this circular knowledge information management system is able not only to collect data directly in it, but also to fetch data from other database. Besides, processing the collected data helps to create new knowledge information. But, it's very difficult to sustain the features of the original hierarchy bearing meaning contained in the various kinds of local culture contents when building a new database. Moreover, this kind of work needs many times of correction over a long period of time. Therefore, a system in which compilation, correction, and service can be done simultaneously is needed. Therefore, in this study, focusing on the case of "The Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture", I propose a XML-based digital compilation management system that can express hierarchy information and sustain the semantic features of the local culture contents containing lots of ancient documents, and introduce the expanded functions developed to manage contents in the system.

  • Library takes its way to digitalization to fill its role in modern information society. This study discusses social environment of this trend and investigates library circumstances, and refines the meaning of a library. A digital library is led by current stream of new media, rapid development of digital technology and recording methods, and revolution of information circulation and production such as electronic publishing. However, rich information sources in printed forms are even significant as a ground of a digital library. The digital library is not a brand-new feature of a library but the result of digitalization of information resources to accomplish the purpose of the library.

  • The purpose of our study is to develop a prototype groupware environment that addresses the different phases of meetings as well as to provide for customizable meetings. We describe several components that can be used to support the entire life-cycle of a distributed meeting. Our design is based on the premise that meetings are comprised of three stages: pre-meeting setup, during meeting activities, and post-meeting teardown. Additionally, meetings are individual, each requiring a different set of tools and applications. Our protype contains six components to support these stages. These components are electronic mail, bulletin board, organizer, agendas, virtual meeting room, and storyboard viewer.

  • Domestic and foreign agricultural environments nowadays are undergoing various changes such as aging of agricultural population, increase of earned population, rapid climate change, diversification of agricultural product distribution structure, depletion of water resources and limited cultivation area. In order to respond to various environmental changes in recent agriculture, practical use of Smart Greenhouse to easily record, store and manage crop production information such as crop growing information, growth environment and agriculture work log, Interest is growing. In this paper, we propose a system that collects the situation information necessary for growth such as temperature, humidity, solar radiation, CO2 concentration, and monitor the collected data, which can be measured in the rhizosphere of the crop. We have developed a system that collects data such as temperature, humidity, radiation, and growth environment data, which are measured by data obtained from the rhizosphere measuring section of a growing crop and measured by a sensor, and transmitted to a wireless communication gateway of 400 MHz. We developed the integrated SW that can monitor the rhythm environment data and visualize the data by using cloud based data. We can monitor by graph format and data format for visualization of data. The existing smart farm managed crops and facilities using only the data within the farm, and this study suggested the most efficient growth environment by collecting and analyzing the weather and growth environment of the farms nationwide.

  • Mantle heterogeneity is closely related to the distribution and circulation of volatile components in the Earth's interior, and the behavior of volatiles in the mantle strongly influences the rheological properties of silicate rocks. In mantle xenoliths, these physicochemical properties of the upper mantle can be recorded in the form of microstructures and fluid inclusions. In this paper, I summarized and reviewed the results of previous studies related to the characteristics of microstructures and fluid inclusions from peridotite xenoliths beneath the Rio Grande Rift (RGR) in order to understand the evolution and heterogeneity of upper mantle. In the RGR, the mantle peridotites are mainly reported in the rift axis (EB: Elephant Butte, KB: Kilbourne Hole) and rift flank (AD: Adam's Diggings) regions. In the case of the former (EB and KB peridotites), the type-A lattice preferred orientation (LPO), formed under low-stress and low-water content, was reported. In the case of the latter (AD peridotites), the type-C LPO, formed under low-stress and high-water content, was reported. In particular, in the case of AD peridotites, at least two fluid infiltration events, such as early (type-1: CO2-N2) and late (type-2: CO2-H2O), have been recorded in orthopyroxene. The upper mantle heterogeneity recorded by these microstructures and fluid inclusions is considered to be due to the interaction between the North American plate and the Farallon plate.

  • Both Platform as a Service (PaaS) as one of the cloud computing service models and the e-government (e-Gov) standard framework from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) provide developers with practical computing environments to build their applications in every web-based services. Web application developers in the geo-spatial information field can utilize and deploy many middleware software or common functions provided by either the cloud-based service or the e-Gov standard framework. However, there are few studies for their applicability and performance in the field of actual geo-spatial information application yet. Therefore, the motivation of this study was to investigate the relevance of these technologies or platform. The applicability of these computing environments and the performance evaluation were performed after a test application deployment of the spatial image processing case service using Web Processing Service (WPS) 2.0 on the e-Gov standard framework. This system was a test service supported by a cloud environment of Cloud Foundry, one of open source PaaS cloud platforms. Using these components, the performance of the test system in two cases of 300 and 500 threads was assessed through a comparison test with two kinds of service: a service case for only the PaaS and that on the e-Gov on the PaaS. The performance measurements were based on the recording of response time with respect to users' requests during 3,600 seconds. According to the experimental results, all the test cases of the e-Gov on PaaS considered showed a greater performance. It is expected that the e-Gov standard framework on the PaaS cloud would be important factors to build the web-based spatial information service, especially in public sectors.
