In this paper, we propose Stream Control Transmission Protocol(SCTP) proxy which supports making an SCTP connection from a Corresponding Node(CN) to a Mobile Node(MN). Recently, mobility support in transport layer is proposed, which provides mobility in end-to-end way using the extension of SCTP. Mobile SCTP can provide handover to all applications that use SCTP as a transport protocol. However, current SCTP does not include independent location management service and can not make connection from a CN to a MN without assistance of other mobile protocols. To solve this problem, Proposed SCTP proxy interoperates with generic location management service and performs an address transformation to forward connection set up messages to the MN. Using the proposed proxy, SCTP can provide a complete mobility support including a connection setup to the MN and maintaining an existing connection.
Recently, transport layer mobility supporting approaches based on SCTP, which is a new standard transport layer protocol, are proposed. In this paper, the handover performance and overheads of these transport layer mobility supporting approaches are compared to those of the traditional network layer mobility supporting approaches. Through the simulation results, it is shown that the handover performance of the transport layer mobility supporting approaches is better or at least similar to that of the plain MIPv6, which is the representative network layer mobility supporting approach. With respect to the amount of control packet, the transport layer approaches impose less overhead than any of the network layer approaches.
In this paper, we propose a transport layer mobility support protocol for multimedia streaming services in mobile/wireless environments by extending PR-SCTP to support mobility. We named the proposed scheme to be uPR-mSCTP. The rules related to provide unordered and unreliable data transfer, as well as an approach to minimize handover latency we proposed. Through the simulation results, it is shown that, since uPR-mSCTP reduces transmission rates during handover, not only it reduces the waste of network resources, but it also has the packet loss rate similar to FMIPv6, which is a lot smaller than UDP over MIPv6 or HMIPv6 It also incurs smaller control packet overhead compared to the network layer mobility support approaches.

Recently, various types of wireless networks have been proliferated. Bluetooth, IEEE 802.11 WLAN, 802.16e Mobile WiMAX (or Wibro) and 3G celluar networks are some examples. Accordingly, research on seamless mobility support mechanisms among homogeneous or heterogeneous networks has drawn significant interests. This paper examines recent research efforts on seamless mobility support mechanisms from link to transport layer. Yet, no single solution meets all the requirements for supporting the seamless mobility and it seems hard to tell which layer is the most appropriate one for supporting mobility. This area is still wide open and needs further research.

Recently, mSCTP (Mobile SCTP) has been proposed as a transport layer approach for supporting mobility. mSCTP is based on the ‘multi-homing’ feature of Stream Control Transmission Protocol(SCTP), and utilize the functions to dynamically add or delete IP addresses of end points to or from the existing connectionin order to support mobility. In this paper, we propose a mechanism to determine when to add or delete an W address, utilizing the link layer radio signal strength information in order to enhance the performance of mSCTP We also propose a mechanism for a mobile node to initiate the change of data delivery path based on link layer radio signal strength information. In addition, if it takes long time to acquire new data path, we propose an approach for reducing handover latency. The simulation results show that the performance of proposed transport layer mobility support mechanism is competitive compared to the traditional network layer mobility supporting approach. Especially, when the moving speed of mobile node is fast, it shows better performance than the traditional network layer approaches.
본 고에서는 네트워크 기반 이종 액세스 망간 이동성 제어 기술인 AIMS(Access Independent Mobility Service) 기술을 소개한다.
