마이크로채널에서 과냉 핵비등 시발점의 비정상 수치해석 (TRANSIENT SIMULATION OF SUBCOOLED ONSET OF NUCLEATE BOILING IN A MICRO-CHANNEL)

  • A numerical study of subcooled onset of nucleate boiling (ONB) in a micro-channel under pulsed heating using volume of fluids (VOF) model was conducted. The VOF simulation adopting the existing experimental condition is compared to the experimental data. The time to ONB was determined when the void fraction at the microheater surface first appeared. The theoretical superheat for homogeneous nucleation relatively predicts the transient ONB results of convective flow of water well based on local temperature distribution. It was found that once heat load increases at the heater, transient flow boiling starts to occur faster.

  • This paper presents numerical results of fluid flows and mixing in a microfluidic device with AC electroosmotic flows (AC-EOF) around coplanar electrodes attached on the top and bottom walls. To obtain the flow and mixing characteristics, numerical computations are performed by using a commercial code, CFX10. Experiment was performed to confirm the generation of the drift velocity around the electrodes. It was found that near the coplanar electrodes 3-D complex flows are generated. The AC-electroosmotic flow on the electrodes plays an important role in mixing the liquid.

선박설계를 위한 계산유체역학의 활용 (The Application of CFD for Ship Design)

  • The issues associated with the application of CFD for ship design are addressed. Doubtlessly at the moment, CFD tools are very useful in evaluating hull forms prior to traditional towing tank tests. However, time-consuming pre-processing is an obstacle in the daily application of CFD tools to improve hull forms. The accuracy of computational modeling without sacrificing the usability of CFD system is also to be assessed. The wave generation is still predicted by using potential panel methods, while velocity profiles entering into propeller plane is solved using turbulent flow solvers. The choice of turbulence model is a key to predict nominal wake distribution within acceptable accuracy. The experimental data for CFD validation are invaluable to improve physical and numerical modeling. Other applications of CFD for ship design than hull form improvement are also given. It is certain that CFD can be a cost-effective tool for the design of new and better ships.

순수유체와 다공성물질의 경계면에서 압력구배의 수치적 처리에 관하여 (On Numerical Treatment of Pressure Gradient at the Interface Between a Homogeneous Fluid and a Porous Medium)

  • The objective of this study is to present a numerical treatment of the pressure gradient when control volumes are sharing the interface between a homogeneous fluid and a porous medium. Two possible approaches, e.g. linear interpolation and extrapolation, are considered, and they are applied to the case of a steady and two-dimensional curved channel flow which is partially filled with a porous medium. It was found that the linear extrapolation produces a continuous velocity-field at the interface and thus is recommended. On the contrary, the linear interpolation entails a discontinuous velocity field at the interface, thereby warning its use in connection with the Brinkman-Forchheimer-extended Darcy flow model.

  • The fluid-structure interaction analysis such as a static aeroelastic analysis requires the result of each analysis as an input to the other analysis. Usually the grids for the fluid analysis and the structural analysis are different, so the results should be transformed properly for each other. The Infinite Plate Spline(IPS) and the Thin Plate Spline(TPS) are used in interpolating the displacement and the pressure. In this study, such interpolation methods are compared with kriging which provides a precise response surface. The static aeroelastic analysis is performed for the supersonic flow field with shock waves and the pressure field is interpolated by the TPS and kriging. The TPS shows tendency to weaken the shock strength, whereas kriging preserves the shock strength.

단독 타 주위의 유동 특성에 대한 연구 (FLOW CHARACTERISTICS AROUND A RUDDER IN OPEN LATER CONDITION)

  • The flow characteristics around a rudder in open water condition is analyzed by the computational method. Reynolds averaged Navier-Stoke's equation is utilized for the computation. The computational hydrodynamic force coefficients are verified through comparing with the experimental results. The information of these flow characteristics is necessary to predict cavitation and maneuvering performances, to estimate steering gear capacitance, and to get the bending moment which is useful for the structural analysis. The pressure distribution, the three-dimensional flow separation, and the tip vortices are investigated. The pattern of the three-dimensional flow separation is analyzed utilizing a topological rule. The tip vortices are also investigated through a visualization technique.

유체기계 임펠러의 최적 역설계 기법 (Optimization Inverse Design Technique for Fluid Machinery Impellers)

  • A new and efficient inverse design method based on the numerical optimization technique has been developed. The 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved for obtaining the objective functions and coupled with the optimization procedure to perform the inverse design. The steepest descent and the conjugate gradient method have been applied to find the searching direction. The golden section method was applied to compute the design variable intervals. It has been found that the airfoil and the pump impellers are well converged to their targeting shapes.

  • The initial unfolding motion simulation of a sub-munition with drag ribbon for precision guidance and reliable operation has been investigated by analyzing its unsteady aerodynamic load and fluid structure interaction. The effects of change in the ribbon configuration and flow angle are numerically studied using a commercial software "XFLOW" based on Lattice-Boltzmann Method. It is shown that the motion is affect adversely by the separation bubble formed posterior part of the fuselage. The rolling moment for arming of the sub-munition is increased with angle of attack and rotational movement.

  • In this study, computer applied engineering (CAE) techniques are fully used to conduct structural and dynamic analyses of a huge composite rotor blade. Computational fluid dynamics is used to predict aerodynamic load of the rotating wind-turbine blade model. Static and dynamic structural analyses are conducted based on finite element method for composite laminates and multi-body dynamic simulation tools. Various numerical results for aerodynamic load, static stress, buckling and dynamic analyses are presented and characteristics of structural behaviors are investigated herein.

  • This paper presents numerical method of investigating flow characteristics of reed valves of reciprocating compressors. The numerically determined effective flow areas agreed within $5.4\%$ of those obtained from experimental measurements. Reasonably good agreements between the experimental and numerical results have been found, implying that the effective flow and force areas of reed valves could be obtained by CFD alone with enough accuracy. A computer simulation of reciprocating compressor has been performed using a numerical results of reed valves. The calculated P-V diagram shows a good agreement with experimental result.
