오목벽면이 있는 밀폐공간에서 자연대류 (Natural Convection from the Concave Wall in a Square Enclosure)

  • The effect of concave curvature on the natural convection has been numerically studied using the higher-order finite difference method. The heating wall in a enclosure is approximated by a cosine function. The heat transfer coefficient is analyzed for three Rayleigh numbers and five amplitudes. For Ra = 10/sup 8/ the separation and reattachment are observed on the adiabatic walls. The wall heat transfer are slightly changed by the increasing curvatures.

  • Turbulent flow past an inclined square cylinder immersed in a cross stream is numerically investigated. The angle of incidence of main flow is one of the key factors determining at which edges the flow separates. In the present study, based on comprehensive numerical simulations, effects of inclination angle on the flow characteristics are elucidated and the related physical explanation is presented.

  • The present paper describes the results of performance analysis for UH-60A rotor blade in hover. For the numerical simulations, commercial CFD software, FLUENT was used with Spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. The flow solver was based on node based scheme and second order spatial accuracy options was used for simulations. For the enhancement of wake capturing capability, high resolution grid was used around tip vortex region. Granting that somewhat over-prediction of thrust was observed near blade tip region, performance was well correlated with experimental data within 3% accuracy in the operating region. Finally it was shown that the present flow solver can be used as a preliminary performance analysis tool for hovering helicopter rotor blades.

  • A supersonic viscous flow over a five-degree half-angle cone is studied computationally with three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. Steady asymmetric solutions show that the asymmetric flow separation is caused by convective instability. The effects of angle of attacks, Reynolds numbers, and Mach numbers have been investigated and it is found that those factors affect the generation of the side force. The side force has the maximum value at ${\alpha}=22^{\circ}$, while over ${\alpha}=22^{\circ}$, asymmetric vortex becomes transient, which results in the unsteady shedding. At the angle of attack of 22 degrees, the side force increases with Reynolds number and decreases with Mach number. The increase of the side force stops over the critical Reynolds number for the present configuration.

  • Aerodynamic design optimization of rotor airfoil has been performed with advanced design method for improved aerodynamic characteristics of ONERA airfoils. A multiple response surface method is used to consider various requirements in rotor airfoil design. Shape functions for mean camber line are proposed to extend possible design domain. Numerical simulations are performed using KFLOW, a Navier-Stokes solver with shear stress transport turbulence model. The present design method provides favorable configurations for the high performance rotor airfoil. Resulting optimized airfoils give better aerodynamic performance than the baseline airfoils.

  • As a step toward accurate prediction of droplet impingement and ice accretion on aircraft, an Eulerian-based droplet impingement and ice accretion code for air flows around an airfoil containing water droplets is developed. A CFD solver based on the finite volume method was also developed to solve the clean airflow. The finite-volume-based approach for simulating droplet impingement on an airfoil was employed owing to its compatibility with the CFD solver and robustness. For ice accretion module, a simple model based on the control volume is combined with the droplet impingement module that provides the collection efficiency. To validate the present code, it is compared with NASA Glenn IRT (Icing Research Tunnel) experimental data and other well-known icing codes such as LEWICE and FENSAP-ICE. It is shown that the collection efficiency and shape of ice accretion are in good agreement with previous experimental and simulation results.

  • In the present study, a numerical simulation for the diffusion of hydrogen leakage of FCV(Fuel Cell Vehicle) in a tunnel was performed to aid the assessment of risk in case of leakage accident. The temporal and spatial distributions of the hydrogen concentration around FCV are predicted from the present numerical analyses. Flammable region of 4-74% and explosive region of 18-59% hydrogen by volume was identified from the present results. Factors influencing the diffusion of the hydrogen jet were examined to evaluate the effectiveness of tunnel ventilation system for relieving the accumulation of the leaked hydrogen gas. The distribution of the concentration of the leaked hydrogen for various cases can be used as a database in various applications for the hydrogen safety.

  • Numerical study is conducted to design the high temperature heat exchanger of Stirling engine by using the commercial CFD solver, FLUENT. The Fin-tube type of heat exchanger is designed as a reference model by considering the type of engine which is ${\beta}$-configuration. To find the optimal design of heat exchanger in heat transfer capacity numerical calculation is conducted by changing the shape, the number, and material of reference model in three-dimensional combustion field. Adjusted one-way constant velocity of working fluid that is helium is considered as the representative velocity of oscillating flow. The optimal design of heat exchanger considering the heat transfer capability is suggested by using the calculation results.

  • Characteristics of the pressure drop in an expanded bed have been compared to those in a packed bed for numerical study of the interphase drag in gas-particle flows. A numerical analysis of the pressure drop by the particle drag has been conducted according to the tube-to-particle diameter ratios and Reynolds numbers for comparison. As the tube-to-particle diameter ratios increase at the same Reynolds number, the pressure drop tends to converge. It has been confirmed that characteristics of the pressure drop in the expanded bed are similar to those in the packed bed.

  • In this study, three-dimensional transient numerical simulations were carried out for a paint drying system of vehicle. The vehicle on assembly line passes through the drying system consisting of hot and cool air blow region. For the moving motion of the vehicle, moving of inlet boundary condition and MRF technique are used. The transient distribution of temperature and velocity in the drying system were predicted numerically. In order to validate the numerical results, transient distribution of the vehicle surface temperature was compared with experimental data, showing a good agreement. As a result of present study, optimal operating condition of the drying system are to be suggested.
