  • The purpose of library automation is to enhance the library function by the computer. Systems Librarian Is the person who manages the automation systems, appeared with the presence of library automation. He/she has the professional knowlege of library and information science, experience of library services and computer technology, The purpose of this study is to introduce the role, characteristics, details of job, nature about systems librarian and to sugest how to educate them. It is important to support systems librarian and to study on them for the purpose of promoting library automation.

  • Information technologies has been playing critical roles in libraries and the practice of information technologies has expanded to various service areas. This study investigated information technological factors in the qualifications of librarian job ads to identify major information technology skills and experiences for librarians. As the result of investigation, the major preferences for information technology skills and experiences are identified in each group of librarians such as administration and management, reference, technical service.

  • Information inquiries asked of the 'Librarian's Community' will reveal the real problems and interests of the university libraries. This paper intends to find out in what areas the university libraries have most problems and interests and how serious they are by analyzing the contents of inquires. To identify the issues, the works in the university libraries including acquisition, cataloging, reference services, library automation and Interlibrary loan were analyzed. This research also tries to identify if the issues need to be handled by the legal or solved by individual libraries.

  • The purpose of this study are to analyze tasks of the public librarians through Job Analysis ('DACUM') and to survey the demands of professional librarian (professional librarian types), As the results, In public libraries, technical services (classification, cataloging etc.,) is reduced, while reading, culture (continued education), and information service are increased. Also, we identified 5 types of professional librarian which is composed 4 function oriented types, and 1 user oriented types, is suggested : reading coach, cultural service librarian, external work librarian, computing support librarian, children librarian.

  • The spectrum of values stretches from intrinsic value to practical value, consisting of exchange value and use value. Because of its own nature and perspective in assessing information, there are some problems of assessing its value. As a framework of assessing value of lnformation, Taylor developed the value-added model of information. Although the model has sl~ortcomings which do not apply measures and scales to mformation value, it can be a framework in assessing the value of mformation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting work performance among systems librarians in Korean academic libraries. The factors were divided in three categories: Job characteristics, organizational characteristics, and individual characteristics. Data from questionnaire were analyzed using the SPSS for windows. Multiple regression analyses were performed on three sets of variables related to the hypotheses of the study. The result of the analysis Identified the folowing factors : Job characteristics which affect work performance among systems librarians in academic library are autonomy, task significance, skill variety, and feedback from supervision. Organizational characteristics which affect work performance are job security, capability of automation systems, coworkers. Individual characteristics which affect work performance are growth need strength, knowledge, and systems librarian experience.

  • This Study seeks for a plan for promotion of smartification of digital services for improving convenience in use and user services of public libraries in smart digital environment. Thus, in this Study, a survey on awareness of a plan for revitalization of digital data and smart libraries has been conducted for the persons in charge of digital data and librarians from public libraries. The result of this Survey are as follows: first, the introduction of smart libraries was effective by first implementing them in small and medium-sized cities with high interest in in information technology, and spreading them to public libraries in metropolitan cities and special autonomous cities; second, it is analyzed that the essential factor of success in introduction of smart libraries is the contents free from the terminals and the upgrade of computer equipment of users available for the use of these services. Terminals are to be individually utilized by smartphone users but it is necessary for upgrade and introduction of 5G which can secure the mobility of users including open type Wi-Fi; third, it is discovered that the information technology the applicability of which is expected to be easy while introducing smart libraries is RFID, which has been already generalized, and bigtata technology. The introduction of IoT technology in which the stakeholders of public libraries in metropolitan cities and special self-governing cities must be considered first.

A Study on the Continuing Education Efficiency of Librarian in the Private University Library (사립대학교도서관 사서직 직원의 계속교육실효성에 관한 연구 -인터넷과 전산 OA교육을 중심으로-)

  • 1. Only 6 libraries(23.1%) among 26 surveyed libraries have a person or part in charge of continuing education. It means that the method to select education program and education object is systemless. The 19 libraries (73.1%) encourage continuing education of librarian. 2. Compared with the group who didn't receive a formal education, the group who received have a high degree in the grade of confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for job in Internet education case. And the group that received a formal education have also a high degree in the grade of ability for job in OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction for job in the carreer is significantly different according to the formal education in Internet education case and OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for Sob in the scholarship are significantly different according to the formal education in internet and computer OA education case 3. Compared with the group that didn't receive periodical education the group that received periodical education have a high degree in the grade of confidence, self-satisfaction for Job in internet education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for job in the carreer are significantly different according to the periodical education in OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for businessin in the scholarship are significantly different according to the periodical education in internet and OA education case. 4. Compared with the group that didn't receive self-education the group that received self-education have a high degree in the grade of confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for job in internet and OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for Job in the carreer are significantly different according to the self education in internet and OA education case. Confidence, self-satisfaction and ability for Job in the scholarship are significantly different according to the self-education in internet and OA education case.
