  • In this study, the characteristics and operation of a multi-purpose loader equipped with various sensors such as a sensor capable of measuring the boom length, an angle sensor capable of measuring the tilt of the left and right sides of the boom and the loader, and a load cell capable of measuring the weight during lifting We have implemented a system that displays related data values. The configuration of the system reads the values from the sensors, sends them to the vehicle controller, and transmits the calculated results of the overturn rate and other important information to the display device using the CANOpen protocol. Also, in the calculation of the overturn ratio, the structure of the multi-purpose loader is similar to that of the crane belonging to the heavy equipment, and the crane overturn rate calculation method is used. Through this study, we can observe the condition of the heavy equipment and recognize the emergency situations such as abalone through the display device.

  • An exfoliation, the detachment of juvenile abalones from a culture substrate, is essential for selection and population density control in abalone culture. Physical instruments and anesthetics are currently available for the exfoliation but the latter is regarded as more effective in reducing physical damage to the animals. In the present study, urea ($Co(NH_2)_2$), a chemical fertilizer, was selected as a anesthetic, and its optimal concentration and sea water temperature for exfoliation of Haliotis discus were determined in order to develop an exfoliation technique which is more economical and effective. A 97% cumulated exfoliation rate was observed within 3 min at all temperatures observed when the concentration rate of urea was 9∼15%. This range of urea concentration can be ideal for both exfoliation and recovery. Also it was found that the higher concentration of urea and temperature the higher exfoliation rate, however, these conditions reduced the recovery rates of the animals tested. These results could indicate that urea is a good tool for exfoliation of various species of young abalones, and urea could substitute for all techniques and anesthetics methods currently available for abalone exfoliation.

  • This study investigated survival rate, osmorality, respiration, excretion and histological response with change of salinity in the abalone, Haliotis discus hannai at $24{\pm}1^{\circ}C$. Survival rate was 100% at 37.0 psu whereas all died after 6 days at 19.8 psu and within 24 hours at 12.8 psu, respectively. The 7-day median lethal limit (7day-$LS_{50}$) was 20.1-28.2 psu with confidence limits of 20.1-28.2 psu. Respiration rate in low salinity groups was lower than control group, but ammonia excretion rate was more increased in comparison to control group. Osmorality was acclimated within 1 hour at above of 26.8 psu but others could not acclimated at each experimental salinity. Histological observation of foot muscle showed hemolymph sinus distension, epidermal destruction and increased infiltration of phagocytes.

  • A test of the 1/3 scale model was conducted to verify the tip-over analysis of a dry. concrete storage cask under a hypothetical accident condition. The tip-over analysis was executed using the velocity at each point as the initial conditions of the model just before the impact. The initial velocity was determined from the initial angular velocity, which would make the equivalent kinetic energy to the potential energy. To confirm the structural integrity of the canister, the visual testing and the non-detective testings such as Liquid Penetrant testing and Ultrasonic Testing were conducted. The lid of a storage cask was plastically deformed near the impact point. The structural integrity of storage cask was maintained. To verify the tip-over analysis the strains and the accelerations acquired by the tip-over test were compared with those by the analyses. The results of the analysis were larger than the test results about two times.

  • This study looked into recovery rate and histological changes in the gills of juvenile abalone Haliotis discus hannai by exposure time (3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h) of different water temperatures (15, 20 and $25^{\circ}C$) and salinities (30, 25, 20 and 15 psu) to understand reasons for the death of abalone exposed by low salinity water. In each water temperature, abalone spats that were exposed to low salinity water (less than 20 psu) for over 6 hours showed decrease in survival rate during recovery and those were exposed at the salinity of 15 psu for more than 24 hours all died. Histological observation showed expansion or damage of gills of the species which were exposed at less than 20 psu for over 6 hours. In case of abalones exposed at the salinity of 15 psu for over 24 hours, most gill tissues were destroyed. This result was glaringly obvious at a higher water temperature, lower salinity and longer exposure time. Accordingly, suffocation caused by damage of gills considered one of direct causes of the death.

  • In this study, data on the types and density of abalone attached organisms were provided in marine net cage of the southern coast. In addition, the effect of the removal of attached organisms was evaluated. In marine net cage, oysters, bryozoa, and barnacles were dominated among the attached organisms, and their average area ratio was about 57.5%. The growth rate and hepatopancreas condition were better in removal group of attached organisms than control group. Therefore, it is judged that the removal of attached organisms from abalone is necessary for the growth of individuals and improvement of value.
