Structure and herbicidal activity relationships of the 2,3-dihydro-2,3,4,6,7-penta-methylbenzofuran-5-yl substituents in 5-benzofuryl-2-[1-(alkoxyimine) alkyl]-3-hydroxycyclohex-2-en-1-ones (5-Benzofuryl-2-[1-(alkoxyimine) alkyl]-3-hydroxycyclohex-2-en-1-one 유도체의 구조-활성관계 2,3-dihydro-2,3,4,6,7-pentamethylben-zofuran-5-yl 치환체들의 구조와 제초 활성과의 관계)

  • A new 2,3-dihydro-2,3,4,6,7-pentamethylbenzofuran-5-yl substituents in 5-benzofuryl-2-[1-(alkoxyimine) alkyl]-3-hydroxycyclohex-2-en-1-ones were found to have herbicidal activity against rice plant (Oryza sativa L.) and barnyard grass (Echinochloa crus-galli) under submerged conditions. The structure activity. relationships (SARs) on the herbicidal activity of $R_1\;and\;R_2$ on the azomethine bond of 2,3-dihydro-2,3,4,6,7-pentamethylbenzofuran-5-yl subsituents were analysized. The conditions of the selective herbicide activity between rice plant (seed) and barnyard grass from the basis on the analysized SARs are assumed that the $R_2$ group of ethyl substituent ($R_1$ ) should have optimal asymmetry parameter, $(L/B_1)_{opt.}=3.96{\AA}$. And also, the $R_2$ groups consist of $C_1{\sim}C_3$ and unsaturated group such as 3-chloro-2-propenyl group was contribution to the herbicide activity.

  • Recently, a variety of electric anesthetics devices have been developed and used in clinical practice to reduce the fatigue of the operator during local anesthesia for dental procedures and to compensate for the disadvantages of manual anesthesia device. In this electric anesthesia injection device, the accurate and constant delivery of pressure for drug infusion is a very important performance factor. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the transfer pressure, a small pressure gauge using a load cell is often used, but since the elastic body inside the load cell may not be able to accommodate a sufficient displacement, an error may occur when evaluating pressure performance. For these reasons, in this study, we proposed and evaluated a silicon-chrome steel (Si-Cr steel) spring jig that can accommodate relatively large displacements that can be used when evaluating the performance of a pressure-controlled pressure application device using a load cell type pressure gauge. As a result of the pressure transmissibility test and repeated measurement results using a commercial dental anesthesia injection device, a more stable result was obtained when using a spring jig, and it was confirmed that the frequency of abnormally high measurement was reduced.

Herbicidal Activities of Phenylvinylsulfone Derivatives (Phenylvinylsulfone 유도체의 제초활성)

  • Post emergence herbicidal activities$(pI_{50})$ of X-substituted phenylvinylsulfone derivatives(S) in-vivo against rice(Oryza sativa L.), Barnyard grass(Echinochloa crus-galli) and Pickerelweed(Monochoria vaginalis Presl) were measured by the pot test under paddy conditions. The (S) showed herbicidal symptom rapidly with lower activity(average $pI_{50}=2.0$) as proherbicide, which was excellent tolerance to rice. The structure activity relationships(SAR) were analyzed using such a physicochemical parameters as hydrophobic$({\pi})$ and molecular orbital(MO) quantity by the multiple regression technique, and discussed with quantum pharmacology. The herbicidal activities were related to the hydrophobic$({\pi})$ effect of X-substituent and orbital(HOMO & LUMO) energy. In case of Pickerelweed, the effect was rationalized by parabolic function of ${\pi}$ constant, where the optimal value of ${\pi}$ was 1.10. An increase in hydrophobicity and negative orbital energy by the electron attracting X-substituent may contribute to the herbicidal activity. Based on results proposed from SAR analysis, the mode of herbicidal action could be assumed.

  • New series of pyridylimidazolinorus substituted with N-(2-hydroxyethyl)-${\alpha}$-dicarbonylamide group, N-ethoxycarbonylthioamide and N-benzoylthioamide group in place of carboxyl group at 3-position of pyridine were prepared, and their herbicidal effects were tested(in vivo) in upland conditions. Most of pyridylimidazolinones substituted with hydroxydiketoamide and N-ethoxycarbonylthioamide group at 3-position of pyridine showed good herbicidal effects at a rate of 250 g/ha, while pyridylimidazolinone substituted with N-benzoylthioamide group showed no herbicidal effects.

  • The heterocyclic PPO inhibitor compounds have been studied due to their potent herbicidal effects without toxic to human and animals. We have designed and synthesized 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindazole, maleimide, and tetrahydrophthalimide compounds carrying diverse epoxide substituents at 5- position of the phenyl group. Their herbicidal activities were evaluated under submerged paddy conditions. These results showed that 4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindazole compounds gave potent herbicidal activities especially to ECHOR, MOOVA, and CYPSE at a relatively low rate of 16 g/ha and improved tolerance on rice compared to S-275 as a standard herbicide in this experiment.

Effect of Li Addition on the Microwave Dielectric Propertis of $MgTiO_3$-$CaTiO_3$ ceramic Dielectrics (Li을 첨가한 $MgTiO_3$-$CaTiO_3$계 세라믹 유전체의 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • The microwave dielectric properties and a sintering behavior of MgTiO$_3$-CaTiO$_3$ ceramics doped with Li were investigated. The main composition was fixed as 0.94MMgTiO$_3$-0.06CaTiO$_3$ and Li$_2$CO$_3$was added excessively in the range of 0~10 mol% (with reference to Li atoms) and the specimens were sintered at 1200~140$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours. When the amount of Li was small the quality factor and dielectric constant were reduced, while those tow properties increased if the Li amount was above 1 mol%. But if Li was overly added those dielectric properties decreased again. Li, if added in the composition range of 1.0~3.0 mol%, can increase the quality factor of MgTiO$_3$-CaTiO$_3$ ceramics. The optimum amount of Li was 1.5mol% and sinterign condition was 1275$^{\circ}C$/4hr, at which we cudl obtain following results ; dielectric constant ($\varepsilon$$_{r}$) of f20.0, quality factor(Qxf$_{0}$) of 78,000 GHz and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency($\tau$$_{f}$) of -1.6 ppm/$^{\circ}C$.>.>.>.

  • 3-Chloro-2-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-5-hydroxyphenyl)-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2H-indazole, which is the key intermediate of cyclic imide type compounds such as EK 5439 and S-275 series, were practically synthesized by the procedure of hydrolysis of by-products and were produced in the reaction of 2-(2-fluoro-4-chloro-5-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3a,4,5,6,7-hexahydroindazol-3-one with phosgene.

Application of SeaWiFS Chlorophyll-a Ocean Color Image for estimating Sea Surface Currents from Geostationary Ocean Color Imagery (GOCI) data (정지궤도 해색탑재체(GOCI) 표층유속 추정을 위한 SeaWiFS 해색자료의 응용)

  • One of the most difficult tasks in measuring oceanic conditions is to produce oceanic current information. In efforts to overcome the difficulties, various attempts have been carried out to estimate the speed and direction of ocean currents by utilizing sequential satellite images. In this study, we have estimated sea surface current vectors to the south of the Korean Peninsula, based on the maximum cross-correlation method by using sequential ocean color images of SeaWiFS chlorophyll-a. Comparison of surface current vectors estimated by this method with the geostrophic current vectors estimated from satellite altimeter data and in-situ ADCP measurements are good in that current speeds are underestimated by about 15% and current directions are show differences of about $36^{\circ}$ compared with previous results. The technique of estimating current vectors based on maximum cross-correlation applied on sequential images of SeaWiFS is promising for the future application of GOCI data for the ocean studies.

Identification of Load Carrying and Vibration Characteristics of Oil-Free Foil Journal Bearing Structures for High Speed Motors (고속 전동기용 무급유 포일 저널 베어링 구조체의 하중지지 및 진동 특성 규명)

  • This study investigates the structural characteristics of oil-free, gas beam foil journal bearings (GBFJBs) for use in high speed motors. Mathematical modeling was carried out, and reaction force modeling for static load was performed to predict the structural characteristics of the GBFJB. The reaction force of the test bearing against static loads was measured during experiments and compared with the predicted results. The measured experimental data reveal the nonlinear stiffness characteristics of the GBFJB against varying displacement and agree well with the predictions. Dynamic load tests using an exciter allow to identify the vibration characteristics of the GBFJB. Test results show that the vibration displacement, dynamic force, and acceleration measured on the test bearing are most dominant at the applied dynamic load (synchronization) frequency. Futhermore, the test results show that the hysteresis area recorded during the dynamic tests increases with the excitation amplitude and frequency, and that the beam stick phenomena occurr at high excitation frequencies. The single degree of freedom (DOF) vibration model aids to identify the stiffness and damping coefficient of the GBFJB, which decrease as the excitation frequency increases.

Influence of N-substituted Amino Group on the Insecticidal Activity of 2-(n-Octyl)-3-(n-propyl)isothiourea Derivatives (2-(n-Octyl)-3-(n-propyl)isothiourea 유도체의 살충활성에 미치는 N-치환 Amino group의 영향)

  • New twenty 2-(n-octyl)-3-(n-propyl)isothiourea derivatives(S) were synthesized which is modified from the insecticidal Buprofezine (Applaud) in the selective insecticidal activities in-vitro against Diamond-Back moth (Plutella Xylostella Linnaeus). The structure activity relationships(SAR) between the insecticidal activity$(pI_{50})$ and a various physicochemical parameters of the substituent(Z) of S were analyzed by the multiple regression technique. The activities would depend largely on the MR, ${\pi}$ and $L_1$ parameters. The SAR was rationalized by parabolic function of MR, ${\pi}$ and $L_1$ constant, where the optimal values of the constants were $L_1=5.22{{\AA}}$, $MR=15.70\;Cm^3/mol$ and ${\pi}=1.60$, respectively. The steric effects play an important role in determining insecticidal activity. The SAR suggest that the S derivatives having a substituents with a small breadth and an appropriate length as Z group showed potent activity. From the results, the iso-propyl group(Z) substituent (5) with three carbon atom was the most effective compound.
