  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the mechanical properties of high-flowable retaining wall material (RWM) incorporated with ground granulated blast-furnace slag (SG) and steel fiber (SF) based on a comparison with those of ordinary portland cement (OPC). To produce the specimens of RWM, some chemical agents such as superplasticizer (SP), air-entrained agent (AEA) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA) are added in the fresh RWM. The compressive, split tensile and flexural strength measurements were performed on the hardened RWM specimens. Additionally, surface electric resistivity and absorption tests according to ASTM standards were carried out at predetermined periods after water curing. It was found that the mechanical properties of slag cement concrete (SGC) RWM mix are better than those ordinary portland cement concrete (OPC) RWM mix. The effect of SF is remarkable to improve the mechanical properties of RWM mixes. It is noted that the usage of SG shows a beneficial effect to resist water penetration as well as long-term strength development of RWM mixes.

  • This paper is aimed to evaluate the mechanical properties and durability of high-flowable retaining wall material (RWM) with different levels of steel fiber (SF) content. To produce the specimens of RWM, some chemical agents such as superplasticizer (SP), air-entrained agent (AEA) and viscosity modifying agent (VMA) were added in the fresh RWM. The compressive and split tensile strength measurements were performed on the hardened RWM specimens at the predetermined periods. Additionally, surface electric resistivity and absorption tests according to ASTM standards were carried out to examine mechanical properties of RWM mixes. The durable performances such as chloride ions penetrability and freezing-thawing resistance of RWM mixes were experimentally investigated. As resutls, it was found that the performance of RWM mix with SF were much better than that without SF, especially at the 2% addition of SF. Thus, it is noted that the proper addition of SF in the RWM mix may have a beneficial effect to improve mechanical properties and durability of RWM mixes.

  • Recently, more focus is shift to imbalances in aggregate market supply and demand and an exhaustion of natural resources. In this situation, Electric arc furnace oxidizing slag (EAF slag) has high application possibility as aggregate for concrete due to similar property with general aggregate. However, it is inherent the problem which causes pop-out by free-CaO contained in slag In this study, we've got the plan to assure the chemical stability of EAF slag, and then experimentally tested the mechanical performance and durability for the fine aggregate used EAF slag. On this test result, we suggest the application plan. At the result of this study, it shows that EAF slag would reduce the surface defect such as pop-out due to natural aging for the fixed hour and adjustment the grain size of EAF slag. And mechanical performance and durability according to the replacement rate of concrete service, were revealed more than equal or equal compare to general aggregate. Hereafter, quality control must precede not to impede the beauty of concrete surface as assure the safety for aging and processing. And, to establish the environmental resource recycling system for by-products of steel, it should be made development of various application and guideline of quality control for the EAF slag aggregate. Moreover, it must be constantly studied all kind of engineering performance and durability for related to this study.

  • A nonlinear aeroelastic analysis system in transonic and supersonic flows has been developed using high speed parallel processing technique on the network based PC-clustered machines. This paper includes the coupling of advanced numerical techniques such as computational structural dynamics (CSD), finite element method (FEM) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The unsteady Euler solver on dynamic unstructured meshes is employed and coupled with computational aeroelastic solvers. Thus it can give very accurate engineering data in the structural and aeroelastic design of flight vehicles. To show the great potential of useful application, transonic and supersonic flutter analyses have been conducted for a complete aircraft model under developing in Korea.

  • In this study, transonic/supersonic nonlinear flutter analysis system of a complete aircraft including forced harmonic motion pf control surfaces has been effectively developed using the modified transonic small disturbance (TSD) equation. To consider the nonlinear effects, the coupled time marching method (CTM) combining computational structural dynamics (CFD) has been directly applied for aeroelastic computations. The grid system for a complex full aircraft configuration is effectively generated by the developed inhouse code. Intransonic and supersonic flight regimes, the characteristics of static and dynamic aeroelastic effect has been investigated for a complete aircraft model. Also, nonlinear flutter flight simulations for the forced harmonic motion of control surfaces are practically presented in detail.

  • In this work, we present simple schematics for a three-terminal graphene-based nanoelectromechanical switch with the vertical electrode, and we investigated their operational dynamics via classical molecular dynamics simulations. The main structure is both the vertical pin electrode grown in the center of the square hole and the graphene covering on the hole. The potential difference between the bottom gate of the hole and the graphene of the top cover is applied to deflect the graphene. By performing classical molecular dynamic simulations, we investigate the nanoelectromechanical properties of a three-terminal graphene-based nanoelectromechanical switch with vertical pin electrode, which can be switched by the externally applied force. The elastostatic energy of the deflected graphene is also very important factor to analyze the three-terminal graphene-based nanoelectromechanical switch. This simulation work explicitly demonstrated that such devices are applicable to nanoscale sensors and quantum computing, as well as ultra-fast-response switching devices.

  • In this paper, we have measured the fundamental properties of chime stone for Pyeongyeong. The properties are measured by wave propagation in the stone without destroying the stones, the measured properties are the chime stone density, natural frequencies of extensional wave and bending wave, and Young's modulus which is calculated by the measured properties. To find a value for Young's modulus, the fundamental frequencies which are obtained through spectrum analysis of extensional wave and bending wave are used. We calculated Young's modulus of chime stone by theoretical study and measurement on extensional wave and bending wave of the beam. As a result, we obtained Young's modulus by the fundamental frequencies of extensional wave and bending wave which deviation is within 2%.

  • In this paper, the meniscus formation/deformation processes and conduction characteristics of the needle-centered ceramic nozzle electrode as an effective electrohydrodynamic (EHD) flow driving mechanisms for de-ionized water and silicone oil have been investigated. Results showed that the applied high voltage affected significantly on the processes, such as the drop formation mode, the deformation mode, the dripping mode, the jet mode, and the atomization mode. There was the EHD atomization mode for the de-ionized water while it was not occurred for the silicone oil, which, however, might be due to the lower electric conductivity and dielectric property of the oil than that of the water.
