The Electrical Characteristics of the Grain Boundary in a $BaTiO_{3}$ PTC Thermistor ($BaTiO_{3}$ PTC 서미스터 입계의 전기적인 특성)

  • PTC thermistor has been fabricated with as-received $BaTiO_{3}$ powder and its electrical properties were investigated. The resistivity of the PTC thermistor was measured at $20^{\circ}C$ intervals from $20^{\circ}C$ to $200^{\circ}C$. The electrical characteristics of the PTC thermistor are determined by the ac complex impedance analysis. The average grain size measured with a scanning electron microscope increased from $3.8{\mu}m$ to $8.8{\mu}m$ with increasing sintering temperature between $1280^{\circ}C$ and $1400^{\circ}C$. The maximum resistivity jump was $4{\times}10^{5}$. The bulk resistivity of the thermistor sintered above $1340^{\circ}C$ decreased with increasing temperature of the measurement. The grain boundary resistance increased exponentially, the grain boundary capacitance decreased, and the built-in potential at the grain boundary increased with increasing temperature of the measurement. The charge densiy at the grain boundary increased with increasing temperature up to $110^{\circ}C$, which leveled off with further increase in measuring temperature.

The Hall Measurement and TMA Gas Detection of ZnO-based Thin Film Sensors (ZnO 박막 센서의 TMA 가스 및 Hall 효과 측정)

  • The TMA gas sensors are fabricated with the ZnO-based thin films grown by a RF magnetron sputtering method. We investigate the surface carrier concentration, Hall electron mobility, electrical resistivity and sensitivity according to temperature variation and TMA gas concentration. The ZnO-based thin film sensors prepared by sputtering in oxygen showed higher surface carrier concentration, higher Hall mobility, higher sensitivity, and lower electrical resistivity than sensors prepared by sputtering in argon. The doping ZnO-based thin film sensors showed the same electrical properties in comparison with nondoping sensors. In case of sputtering on the oxygen gaseous atmosphere, the ZnO-based thin film sensors doped with 4.0 wt.% $Al_{2}O_{3}$, 1.0 wt.% $TiO_{2}$, and 0.2 wt.% $V_{2}O_{3}$ showed the highest surface carrier concentration of $5.95{\times}10^{20}cm^{-3}$, Hall electron mobility of $177\;cm^{2}/V{\cdot}s$, lowest electrical resistivity of $0.59{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and highest sensitivity of 12.1(working temperature, $300^{\circ}C$, TMA gas, 8 ppm).

  • This paper describes underwater discharge phenomena and breakdown characteristics in case that the standard lightning impulse voltage is injected to the needle and spherical electrodes installed in the hemisphere water tank. The objective of this work is to understand the basic features related to transient ground impedance against lightning surges. The discharge luminous images were observed and the dependence of breakdown voltage on the polarity of applied voltage and water resistivity were investigated. As a consequence, streamer corona is initiated at the tip of needle and spherical electrodes and is propagated toward grounded tank with stepwise extension. The breakdown voltage characteristics measured as a function of water resistivity showed V-shaped curves. Breakdown voltage and time curve of needle electrode is higher than that of spherical electrode.

  • Electrical resistance tomography(ERT) maps resistivity values of the soil subsurface and characterizes buried objects. The characterization includes location, size and resistivity of buried objects. In this paper, Gauss-Newton, truncated least squares(TLS) and simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique(SIRT) methods are presented for the solution of the ERT image reconstruction. Computer simulations show that the spatial resolution of the reconstructed images by the TLS approach is improved as compared to those obtained by the Gauss-Newton and SIRT method.

  • In this paper, we try to solve the difficulties of the location of the structure for the movement of the wire - based pesticide spraying equipment designed for field farming. To do this, we apply earth resistivity measurement method and analysis technique which can indirectly grasp the earth structure. Electrodes are installed on the field in a selected farming area, and multi-switches built in the control board are driven to automatically acquire ground resistivity data. Then, the optimal point suitable for the actual structure installation is selected through the site analysis using the 2D image restoration algorithm.

  • Electrical resistivity and seismic refraction surveys were conducted to investigate geologic structures and geotechnical characteristics of the subsurface in Dok-do island, along with rock physical properties. The resistivity results in Seo-do island show that the fault adjacent to the fisherman's shelter is a normal fault and extended towards the NW direction. Bedded Rapilli Tuff in the downstream was more severely influenced in depth by weathering and erosion than Trachy Andesite II in the upstream area. The physical properties of the rocks illustrate that Trachyte and Trachy Andesite are hardest, Massive Tuff Breccia is next, and Tuffs are the most soft rocks in Dok-do island.

Monitoring the Structural Behavior of Reinforced RC Slabs Using Optical Fiber-embedded CFRP Sheets (광섬유 매립 CFRP 시트를 활용한 RC 슬래브의 구조적 거동 모니터링 기술 개발)

  • This study performed 4-point flexural tests of reinforced concrete to which was attached a distributed optical fiber sheet and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets in order to assess the effect of the CFRP sheets and the applicability of a BOTDR sensor simultaneously. To evaluate the reinforcing effect, various degrees of CFRP sheet attachment were manufactured, and to evaluate the sensing ability, strains obtained from a BOTDR sensor were compared with strains measured from electric resistance strain gauges that were attached to the concrete surface. From the results, the reinforcing effects were evidently different according to the attachment type of the CFRP sheets, and it was confirmed that the main influencing factor on the reinforcing effect was the type of attachment rather than the attachment area. The reinforced concrete structural behavior was visualized with strains measured from the BOTDR sensor as load increased, and it was identified that load was concentrated in the CFRP reinforced area. Strains from the BOTDR sensor were similar to those from the electric resistance strain gauge; thereby a BOTDR sensor can be effective in the analysis of structural behaviorsof massive infrastructure. Finally, the strain from a BOTDR sensor was high where CFRP sheet fall-off occurs, and it would therefore be efficient to track local damage locations of CFRP sheets by utilizing a BOTDR sensor.

저추력을 이용한 저궤도 위성의 궤도 유지 위한 해석적 방법

  • 위성이 궤도를 운용함에 있어서 원으로 운용되는 저궤도(LEO)에서는 대기저항(Drag)에 의한 섭동 영향이 가장 크게 미친다. 이 연구에서는 대기저항 섭동에 의해 감소되는 위성의 고도를 전기추력기를 이용하여 고도를 유지할 때 이를 해석적인 측면에 대해 살펴보고 지구 관측 위성에서 많이 쓰이는 태양 동기 궤도(SSO)에 적용하여 궤도를 유지하는 방법에 대해 알아보았다. 태양활동에 의한 대기의 밀도변화를 John kennewell의 모델을 통해 예측하여 대기저항에 의해 감소되는 고도량을 구하고 위성에서 추력(thrust)을 줄 때는 Gaussian Variation of Parameters식을 이용하여 해석적인 방법으로 궤도 장반경의 증가량을 구하였다. 위성에 추력을 줄때 이심률이 증가하게 되는 문제는 구속조건으로 이심률 값의 최대 허용치를 정하여 증가하는 것을 방지하도록 하였다. 또한 $J_2$ 섭동에 의해 가장 영향을 받는 승교점(Ascending Node)과 추력에 의해 변화할 수 있는 근지점(Perigee)을 살펴보고 궤도 유지를 위한 적절한 추력 방향을 구하였다. 각각의 궤도 요소의 변화를 살펴보고 일반적인 태양 동기 궤도 위성의 제원을 이용하여 궤도 유지에 적용하였다. 저궤도 위성의 궤도 유지에 대한 복잡한 수치적인 방법으로 궤도요소의 변화를 정확하게 구하지만 해석적인 방법으로도 위성의 궤도 유지를 위한 정보를 얻을 수 있었다. 이를 저궤도 위성의 궤도 운용과 변화 예측에 적용할 수 있다.

Influence of steel fiber contents on corrosion resistance of steel reinforcement (강섬유 혼입량이 철근 부식저항성능에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to evaluate corrosion resistance of steel fiber-reinforced concrete, accelerated chloride migration and surface resistivity tests were conducted. In addition air content of fresh concrete, compressive strength and water absorption were measured for investigating fundamental characteristics of concrete. Two different water-cement ratios(0.44, 0.5) and three steel fiber contents(0.25%, 0.5%, 1%) were considered as variables. Note that all specimens cast with same compaction work. As a results, corrosion resistance decreased as steel fiber contents increased regardless of water-cement ratio when the concrete was compacted with same amount of work done. However, for concrete with same steel fiber content, the lower water-cement ratio showed the better corrosion resistance. It is found that enhancement of fluidity and enough compaction should be done for corrosion resistance of SFRC.

Evaluation of Shear Zone in Direct Shear Test Using Elastic, Electromagnetic Waves and Cone Tip Resistance (전단파, 전자기파 및 콘 관입저항력을 이용한 직접전단실험시 전단영역 특성 평가)

  • The characteristics of shear zone in granular soils largely affect the stability of geo-structures. The goal of this study is to evaluate shear zone in a direct shear test using shear wave, electrical resistivity, and cone tip resistance. Bender elements and electrical resistivity probe are embedded into the wall of a direct shear box made of transparent acrylic material to estimate the shear wave velocities and the electrical resistivity at shear and non-shear zones. At the point of peak and residual strength, micro cone penetration test which can be available to measure tip resistance has been performed. Experimental results show that the shear wave velocities at upper shear zone increase during shearing while the values remain constant at bottom and lower shear zone. Also, resistivities at lower shear zone depend on relative density while resistivities at bottom remain constant. The results of cone penetration test demonstrate the correlation of the cone tip resistance and small strain shear modulus at shear zone. This study suggests that the application of the modified direct shear box including shear wave, electrical resistivity and the micro cone tip resistance may become effective tools for analyzing the characteristics of a shear zone.
