In this paper, a robust video transmission system is proposed. To effectively prevent the corruption of video stream and its propagation in spatial and temporal domains, a version of turbo code, so-called as byte-aligned variable-length turbo code, is applied. Protection performance of the proposed turbo code is first evaluated by applying it to GOB-based variable-size ITU-T H.263+ video packets, where the protection level is statically controlled based on the joint source-channel criteria. This protection is then extended to support the adaptation of code ratio to best match the time-varying channel condition. The time-varying Rayleigh fading channel is modelled considering the correlation of the fading channel. The resulting performance comparison with the static turbo code as well as the conventional RCPC code clearly demonstrates the possibility of the proposed adaptation approach for the time-varying correlated Rayleigh-fading channel.

Recent wireless communication trends have emphasized the importance of energy-efficient transmission. In this paper, link adaptation with machine learning mechanism for maximum energy efficiency in multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(MIMO-OFDM) wireless system is considered. For reflecting frequency-selective MIMO-OFDM channels, two-dimensional capacity(2D-CAP) feature space is proposed. In addition, machine-learning-based bit and power adaptation(ML-BPA) algorithm that performs classification-based link adaptation is presented. Simulation results show that 2D-CAP feature space can represent channel conditions accurately and bring noticeable improvement in link adaptation performance. Compared with other feature spaces, including ordered postprocessing signal-to-noise ratio(ordSNR) feature space, 2D-CAP has distinguished advantages in either efficiency performance or computational complexity.

This paper relates with the eualization performance of Constellation Matching-MMA (CM-MMA) in order to the consists of optimum receiver for the minimization of intersymbol interference and additive noise effects that is occurs in the nonlinear communication channel. The error signal were obtained that combines the Constellation Matching technique that inserts the zero point between the signal point of equalizer for improving the residual isi and convergence speed compared to the currently used MMA algorithm. In the initial state of adaptive equalization, it depends on the MMA characteristics mainly. And in the steady state, it depends on the CM characteristics mainly. In order to analyzing the equalization performance, the output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion, MSE and SER were applied, then it were compared with the present MMA algorithm. As a result of computer simulation, the CM-MMA has more better performance in the every performance index, and it was also confirmed that the constellation matching effect can be obtained in the greater than 20dB signal to noise ratio.

In mobile communication systems, the Reduced State Sequence Estimation(RSSE) receiver must be able to track changes in the channel. This is carried out by the adaptive channel estimator. However, when the tentative decisions are used in the channel estimator, incorrect decisions can cause error propagation. This paper presents a new channel estimator using the path history in the Viterbi decoder for preventing error propagation. The selection of the path history in the Viterbi decoder for preventing error propagation. The selection of the path history for the channel estimator depends on the path metric as in the decoding of the Viterbi decoder in RSSE. And a discussion on the channel estimator with different adaptation algorithms such as Least Mean Square(LMS) algorithm and Recursive Least Square(RLS) algorithm is provided. Results from computer simulations show that the RSSE receivers using the proposed channel estimator have better performance than the other conventional RSSE receiver, and that the channel estimator with RLS algorithm is adequate for multipath fading channel.

We propose a quality guaranteed scalable video streaming service over the Internet using a new rate adaptation algorithm. Because video data requires much more bandwidth rather than other types of service, therefore, quality of video streaming service should be guaranteed while providing friendliness with other service flows over the Internet. To successfully provide this, we propose a framework for providing quality-guaranteed streaming service using two-channel transport layer and rate adaptation of scalable video stream. In this framework, baseline layer for scalable video is transmitted using TCP transport for minimum qualify service. Enhancement layers are delivered using TFRC transport with layer adaptation algorithm. The proposed framework jointly uses the status of playout buffer in the client and the encoding rate of layers in media contents. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can remarkably guarantee minimum quality of streaming service rather than conventional approaches regardless of network congestion and the encoding rate variation of media content.

This paper evaluates the QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm by the number of quantizer in order to compensates the intersymbol interference due to channel in the transmission of high spectral efficient nonconstant modulus signal. In the adaptive equalizer, the error signal is needed for the updating the tap coefficient, the QE-MMA uses the polarity of error signal and correlation multiplier that condered nonlinear finite bit power-of-two quantizing component in order to convinience of H/W implementation. The different adaptive equalization performance were obtained by the number of quantizer, these performance were evaluated by the computer simulation. For this, the equalizer output signal constellation, residual isi, maximum distortion, MSE, SER were applied as a performance index. As a result of computer simulation, it improved equalization performance and reduced equalization noise were obtained in the steady state by using large quantizer bit numbers, but gives slow in convergence speed for reaching steady state.

This paper relates with the performance evaluation of QE-MMA (Quantized Error-MMA) adaptive equalization algorithm based on the stepsize and quantizer bit number in order to reduce the intersymbol interference due to nonlinear distortion occurred in the time dispersive channel. The QE-MMA was proposed using the power-of-two arithmetic for the H/W implementation easiness substitutes the multiplication and addition into the shift and addition in the tap coefficient updates process that modifies the SE-MMA which use the high-order statistics of transmitted signal and sign of error signal. But it has different adaptive equalization performance by the step size and quantizer bit number for obtain the sign of error in the generation of error signal in QE-MMA, and it was confirmed by computer simulation. As a simulation, it was confirmed that the convergence speed for reaching steady state depend on stepsize and the residual quantities after steady state depend on the quantizer bit number in the QE-MMA adaptive equalization algorithm performance.

Adaptive bitrate (ABR) streaming technology has become an important and prevalent feature in many multimedia delivery systems, with content providers such as Netflix and Amazon using ABR streaming to increase bandwidth efficiency and provide the maximum user experience when channel conditions are not ideal. Where such systems could see improvement is in the delivery of live video with a closed loop cognitive control of video encoding. In this paper, we present streaming camera system which provides spatially and temporally adaptive video streams, learning the user's preferences in order to make intelligent scaling decisions. The system employs a hardware based H.264/AVC encoder for video compression. The encoding parameters can be configured by the user or by the cognitive system on behalf of the user when the bandwidth changes. A cognitive video client developed in this study learns the user's preferences(i.e. video size over frame rate) over time and intelligently adapts encoding parameters when the channel conditions change. It has been demonstrated that the cognitive decision system developed has the ability to control video bandwidth by altering the spatial and temporal resolution, as well as the ability to make scaling decisions.

Video streaming over wireless multi-hop networks(WMNs) contains the following challenges from channel fading and variable bandwidth of wireless channel, and it cause degradation of video streaming performance. To overcome the challenges, currently, WMNs can use Forward Error Correction (FEC) mechanism. In WMNs, traditional FEC schemes, E2E-FEC and HbH-FEC, for video streaming are applied, but it has long transmission delay, high computational complexity and inefficient usage of resource. Also, to distinguish network status in streaming path, it has limitation. In this paper, we propose monitoring-based coordination of network-adaptive hop-to-end(H2E) FEC scheme. To enable proposed scheme, we apply a centralized coordinator. The coordinator has observing overall monitoring information and coordinating H2E-FEC mechanism. Main points of H2E-FEC is distinguishing operation range as well as selecting FEC starting node and redundancy from monitored results in coordination. To verify the proposed scheme, we perform extensive experiment over the OMF(Orbit Measurement Framework) and IEEE 802.1la-based multi-hop WMN testbed, and we carry out performance improvement, 17%, from performance comparison by existing FEC scheme.

We introduce an adaptive finite state vector quantization using a new side match distortion function. The conventional side match distortion function can make the gray level transition between the block bounddaries as smooth as possible and proper state codebooks in the flat areas where the spatial correlations are high. But it can't make proper codebooks in the edge areas where the spatial correlations are not high. The proposed distortion function adds the variances which represent the image characteristics to the conventional side match distortion function as weighted values. Then it can select better state codebooks than the conventional side match distortion function. Also if it predicts a wrong state, the proposed quantizer can correct the state. As a result, we can obtain the satisfiable image quality.
