Implant Supported Fixed Restoration for Maxillary Edentulism using CAD/CAM Guided Implant Surgery (NobelGuide$^{TM}$) and Immediate Loading (상악 완전 무치악 환자의 CAD/CAM 을 이용한 임플란트 식립(NobelGuide$^{TM}$) 및 즉시하중 후 고정성 보철수복 증례)

  • This case report described a technique utilizing a computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided machining (CAM) - guided surgical implant placement and prefabricated temporary fixed prosthesis for an immediately loaded restoration. The advantages of CAD/CAM guided implant procedures are flapless, minimally invasive surgery and shorter surgery time. With this technique, less postoperative morbidity and delivery of prosthesis for immediate function would be possible. A patient with an edentulous maxilla received 8 implants in maxilla using CAD/CAM surgical templates. Prefabricated provisional maxillary implant supported fixed prosthesis were connected immediately after implant installation. Provisional prosthesis was evaluated for aesthetics, function during 6 months. Definitive implant supported fixed porcelain fused metal bridges were fabricated.

Inspection on the acoustic output of the focused extracorporeal focused shock wave therapeutic devices approved by MFDS (식약처에서 허가된 집속형 ESWT 치료기의 음향 출력 분석)

  • Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is an innovative treatment in chronic musculoskeletal pain management and cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we surveyed the acoustic shock wave outputs from the domestically used focal type ESWT devices. The survey data were collected through 30 technical documents registered to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS), Rep. Korea. The results show that the focusing geometry varies largely, 5 mm to 65 mm in the focal length, 3 mm to 30 mm in focal width, and 4 mm to 108 mm in focal depth. The maximum positive pressure (P+) ranges from 7 MPa to 280 MPa, the focal Energy Flux Density (EFD) from 0.0035 mJ/㎟ to 35 mJ/㎟, and the energy per pulse (E) from 0.737 mJ to 80.86 mJ. All domestic PE-type (five) and one EM-type domestic devices included in the analysis of the correlation between P+ and EFD are shown to be far beyond the usual ranges and do not comply with expected correlation so that the reliability of their data was suspected. For the suspected, post-performance tests are required by a recognized testing agency. MFDS guidelines need to be revised so that the pass criteria for the shock wave acoustic outputs can be based on the clinical tests for indications.

The Behavioral Analysis of the Trading Volumes of Gwangyang Port: Comparison with Incheon and Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port (광양항의 물동량 행태분석: 인천항, 평택.당진항과 비교)

  • This study investigates the behavioral characteristic difference of the container volumes of three ports-Gwangyang, Incheon, and Pyeongtaek-Dangjin. All series span the period January 2003 to December 2011. I first test whether the series are stationary or not. I can reject the null hypothesis of a unit root in each of the level variables and of a unit root for the residuals from the cointegration at the 5 percent significance level. I hitherto make use of error-correction model and find that Gwangyang port is the slowest in adjusting the short-run disequilibrium, whereas the adjustment speed of Incheon is much faster than that of Gwangyang. The impulse response functions indicate that container volumes increase only a little to the negative shocks in exchange rate, while they respond positively to the shocks in the business activity in a great magnitude and decay very slowly to its pre-shock level. meaning that the shocks last very long. The accumulative response to the exchange rate increase of 20 won per dollar and the 5 point industrial production increase is the smallest in Gwangyang, no more than a half of that of two ports. The intervention-ARIMA models also forecast that Gwangyang port will have much lower growth rate than Incheon and Pyeongtaek-Dangjin port in trading volumes.

Effect of High CO2 Concentration on Activation of Sexual Development in Aspergillus nidulans (고농도 CO2 노출에 의한 Aspergillus nidulans의 유성생식 촉진효과)

  • Fungal development is largely affected by many environmental factors. In a model filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans, asexual development is promoted by exposure of light, presence of salt and non-fermentable sugars. In other hand, sexual development is largely induced by absence of light, fermentable sugars and hypoxic condition. Also, some important genes including veA and nsdD play positive roles in activating sexual development. Here, we reported that the effect of high concentration of $CO_2$ on developmental decision in A. nidulans. When wild-type $veA^+$ strain was cultured in normal condition, sexual and asexual development occurred in balanced manner. However, high concentration of $CO_2$ (~5%) strongly activated sexual development and inhibited asexual development. Furthermore, this $CO_2$ effect was controlled by the veA or nsdD gene. High $CO_2$ culture of $veA^-$ or $nsdD^-$ mutant didn't activate sexual development, suggesting that the activation of sexual development induced by high $CO_2$ cannot overcome the genetic requirement of sexual development such as veA or nsdD. Since 5% $CO_2$ is an important condition for human pathogenic fungi for surviving and adapting in human body, this developmental pattern of A. nidulans affected by $CO_2$ concentration may provide interesting clues for comparative study with human fungal pathogens including Aspergillus fumigatus.

Molecular Cloning and Expression of the Metallothionein Gene under Environmental Stresses in Sweet Potato (고구마 metallothionein 유전자의 클로닝 및 환경 스트레스 하에서 발현 분석)

  • The metallothionein (MT) gene (IbMT3) was selected from an EST library of suspension-cultured sweet potato cells. The MT gene, which is one of abundant ESTs in the library, is involved in stress regulation of cells and tissues. A full-length IbMT3 cDNA was obtained and analysis of its nucleotide sequence revealed that IbMT3 encoded a type 3 MT protein, based on its structural characteristics. The function of type 3 MT in plants is not yet known. Northern blot analysis showed stronger expression of IbMT3 in suspension-cultured cells than in sweet potato plant leaves. Since cell culture is known to impose a state of oxidative stress on cells, sweet potato plants were subjected to oxidative stress to investigate the transcriptional regulation of IbMT3. When the herbicide methyl viologen (MV) was administered for 6, 12, and 24 hr, IbMT3 transcription rapidly increased at 6 hr and then decreased. A cold treatment at $15^{\circ}C$ for 24 and 48 hr resulted in a gradual increase in IbMT3 expression. These findings indicate that IbMT3 expression is regulated in response to environmental and oxidative stress. IbMT3 isoform is expected to have antioxidant effects in sweet potato plants and may play an important role in cellular adaptation to oxidative stress.

Distribution Pattern of Ageratina altissima Along Trails at Mt. Umyeon in Seoul, Korea (우면산 등산로 주변 서양등골나물의 분포 경향)

  • Ageratina altissima is an invasive plant species known to threaten native plant communities in Korea. A. altissima is thought to invade shady forests from disturbed open areas; however, uncertainty remains as to how shade and litter depth might affect establishment. A study of A. altissima distribution characteristics in areas adjacent to trails was undertaken at Mt. Umyeon in Seoul, Korea. Increasing densities of A. altissima were found to correlate with greater light availability and decreasing litter depth (p < 0.001) within 10 m distance from trail locations and on ridges rather than further within forests and valleys. The effects of soil moisture content, soil gravel content and soil pH on distribution were not found to be significant, suggesting that A. altissima is adaptable to a broad range of soil conditions. Results indicate that forest areas close to trails may be particularly susceptible place to A. altissima invasion, demonstrating the need to carefully consider implications for A. altissima expansion in trail management.

Composition and Structure of the Major Forest Stands in Mt. Worak, Korea: On the National Long-Term Ecological Research Sites (월악산 주요 임분의 종조성과 구조: 국가장기생태연구지소를 중심으로)

  • We assessed the species composition and structure of the three representative forest stands(Pinus densiflora stand, Quercus variabilis stand, and Ouercus mongolica stand), dominated in the National Long-Term Ecological Research Sites of Mt. Worak, Korea and established a benchmark series of permanent plots and transects with which future changes in forest composition and structure could be monitored. Species richness of Q. mongolica stand was greater than other two stands, due in large part to the greater habitat heterogeneity. Number of trees and species are decreased with increasing DBH classes. The successional trends of the three study stands would be mostly changed as Q. mongolica forest, regardless of forest types. Mean density ratio between alive trees and dead trees of three forest stands appeared with Q. mongolica stand 75:25, Q. variabilis stand 94:6, and P. densiflora stand 86:14, Q. mongolica stand appeared most highly from in three stands. This may be due to interspecific or intraspecific competition that it follows in various successesional stages. One side, when it saw the tree status which shows the tree health, the three forest stands all standing alive type (AS) appeared most highly with 75% to 85% and fallen dead type (DF) did not appear entirely. Remeasurement of permanent plots at periodic intervals will provide useful information on the dynamics of the forest vegetation that can be used in the development of adaptive conservation plans.

Effective PPG Signal Processing Method for Detecting Emotional Stimulus (감성 자극 판단을 위한 효과적인 PPG 신호 처리 방법)

  • In this study, we propose a signal processing algorithm to measure the arousal level of a human subject using a PPG(Photoplethysmography) sensor. From the measured PPG signals, the arousal level is determined by PPI(Pulse to Pulse Interval) and discrete-time signal processing. We ran psychophysical experiments displaying visual stimuli on TV display while measuring PPG signal from a finger, where the nature landscape scenes were used for restorative effect, and the urban environments were used to stimulate the stress. However, the measured PPG signals may include noise due to subject movement and measurement error, which results in incorrect detections. In this paper, to mitigate the noise impact on stimulus detection, we propose a detecting algorithm using digital signal processing methods and statistics of measured signals. A filter is adopted to remove a high frequency noise and adaptively designed taking into account the statistics of the measured PPG signals. Moreover we employ a hysteresis method to reduce the distortion of PPI in decision of emotional. Via experiment, we show that the proposed scheme reduces signal noise and improves stimulus detection.

Blood Flow Simulation in Bifurcated Geometry of Abdominal and Iliac Arteries Based on CT Images (CT영상에 기반한 복부대동맥과 장골동맥 분기관 모델의 혈류유동 해석)

  • Numerical simulation of blood flow has been conducted based on real vessel geometries generated front DICOM medical images of abdominal and iliac bifurcated arteries of a healthy man. A program was developed to read cross sectional images of the three dimensional arteries and smoothly extract boundary coordinates of vessels. Commercial programs were employed for mesh generation and flow simulation. Pressures, velocities, and flow distributions were found to lie within normal physiological ranges. Peak velocity measured in the iliac artery by ultrasound was 20% smaller than that obtained by simulation. The trend of velocity variation in a cardiac cycle was fairly similar between the simulation and the ultrasonic measurements. Simulation based on real vessel geometry of individual patient provides information on pressure, velocity, and its distribution in the diseased arteries or arteries to be surgically treated. The results of simulation may help surgeons to better understand hemodynamic status and surgical need of the patient by revealing variation of the hemodynamic parameters. Futhermore, they may serve as basic data for surgical treatment of arteries. This research is expected to develop to a program in the future that early diagnose atherosclerosis by showing distribution of a hemodynamic index closely related to atherosclerosis in arteries.

Efficient Resource Allocation Schemes for Relay-based Cooperative Networks in 3GPP LTE-Advanced Systems (3GPP LTE-Advanced 시스템에서 릴레이 기반의 협력 네트워크를 위한 효율적인 자원할당 기법)

  • Unlike single-hop systems, multi-hop systems that use relay nodes assign a part of the overall resources to relay communications. If efficient resource allocation schemes are not adopted, this leads to a loss of resources. Moreover, because we may not be able to guarantee high-link performance due to the adjacent-cell interference in relay-based cellular systems, resource efficiency can be severely decreased. In this paper, we propose efficient resource allocation schemes for downlink relay-based networks in 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution)-Advanced systems. Unlike conventional schemes that have static resource regions for each data link, the proposed schemes dynamically allocate the resources of each link to resource blocks, by considering the channel state and the capacity of each link. We also propose resource overlapping schemes in which two different links overlap at the same resource region, so as to improve cell or user throughput performance. The proposed resource overlapping schemes do not require additional processes such as interference cancellation in users, thank to considering additional interference from resource overlapping in advance.
