Synthesis and Emission Properties of Dy3+-doped BaMoO4 Phosphors (Dy3+ 이온이 도핑된 BaMoO4 형광체의 합성과 발광 특성)

  • $Dy^{3+}$-doped $BaMoO_4$ phosphor powders were synthesized by using the solid-state reaction method and their crystalline structure, morphology and size of particles, excitation and emission properties were investigated. The structure of all the phosphor powders, irrespective of the mol ratio of $Dy^{3+}$ ions, was found to be the tetragonal system with the main diffraction peak at (112) plane. The grain particles agglomerate together to form larger clusters with increasing the mol ratio of $Dy^{3+}$ ions. The excitation spectra were composed of a broad band centered at 293 nm and weak multiline peaked in the range of 230~320 nm, which were due to the transitions of $Dy^{3+}$ ions. The emission of the phosphors peaking at 666 and 754 nm, originating from the transitions of $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{11/2}$ and $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{9/2}$ of $Dy^{3+}$ ions, was rather weak, while the intensity of blue and yellow emission peaking at 486 nm and 577 nm due to the transitions of $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{15/2}$ and $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^6H_{13/2}$ of $Dy^{3+}$ ions was significantly stronger. The experimental results suggest that the white-light emission can be realized by controlling the yellow-to-blue intensity ratio of $Dy^{3+}$ emission.

비 Cd계 양자점 합성 및 LED 응용

  • 기존의 Cd계 양자점에 비해 독성 문제가 적은 비 Cd계 양자점은 합성 공정과 발광 특성 제어의 난이도로 인해 아직 Cd계 양자점에 비해 응용성이 떨어지는 상태이다. 또한 기존의 형광체와 같이 쓰이거나 이를 대체하기 위해서는 온도에 따른 발광안정성 확보가 필요하지만, 아직은 전이금속 도핑된 II-VI족 양자점을 제외하면 쉽지 않은 실정이다. 그러나 핵-껍질 구조 형성, 표면처리 등 많은 연구를 통해 Cd계 양자점과 거의 동등한 발광효율을 얻을 수 있게 되었으며, 발광의 색순도를 표시하는 발광선폭 역시 Cd계 양자점에 상당히 근접하였다. 특히 BLU 응용을 위해서는 좁은 발광선폭이 필수적이며 조명용 백색 LED 응용을 위해서도 색순도가 높으며 발광효율이 우수한 적색 형광입자의 필요성이 크다. 대표적인 비 Cd계 양자점인 InP의 경우 공유결합성이 커서 합성 과정에 어려움이 있으며, 표면 제어가 쉽지 않으나 부단한 연구개발을 통해 40~50 nm까지 발광선폭을 줄였으며, 발광효율도 거의 100%에 육박하는 값을 얻은 바 있다. 향후 좀더 많은 연구개발을 통해 발광 안정성이 우수하고 색순도가 높은 고특성 비 Cd계 양자점의 개발이 이루어 지면 조명용 LED나 디스플레이의 고성능화를 실현시키는 중요한 소재가 될 것으로 기대한다.

Fabrication and Characteristics of a White Emission Electroluminicent Device (백색 전계발광소자의 제작과 그 특성)

  • White emission thin film electroluminecent device was fabricated with ZnS for phosphor layers and BST ferroelectric thin film for insulating layers. The ZnS:Mn and $ZnS:SmF_3$ layers were used for emission of red color. Also the $ZnS:TbF_3$ and $ZnS:AgF_3$ layers were used to emission of green and blue color, respectively. And the fabrication conditions of the BST insulating layers were followings, that is, the composition ratio of target, substrate temperature, working pressure and operating gas ratio were $Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Ti_{0.3}$, $400^{\circ}C$, 30 mTorr and 9:1, respectively. The thickness of phosphor were 150 nm for each layers and the insulating layers of upper and bottom were 400 nm and 200 nm, respectively. The luminesence threshold voltage was $75\;V_{rms}$ and the maximum brightness of the thin film electroluminecent device was $3200\;cd/m^2$ at $100\;V_{rms}$.

Synthesis of CaZrO3 : Eu3+ phosphor by skull melting method (스컬용융법에 의한 CaZrO3 : Eu3+ 형광체 합성)

  • Single crystal phased CaZrO3 : Eu3+ phosphor have been synthesized by skull melting method. The crystal structure, morphology and optical properties of synthesized phosphor were investigated XRD (X-ray diffraction), SEM (scanning electron microscopy), UV (ultraviolet) fluorescence reaction and PL (photo luminescence). The starting materials having chemical composition of CaO: ZrO2 : Eu2O3= 0.962 : 1.013 : 0.025 mol% were charged into a cold crucible. The cold crucible was 120 mm in inner diameter and 150 mm in inner height, and 3 kg of mixed powder (CaO, ZrO2 and Eu2O3) was completely melted within 1 hour at an oscillation frequency of 3.4 MHz, maintained in the molten state for 2 hours, and finally air-cooled. The XRD results show that synthesized phosphor is stabilized in orthorhombic perovskite structure without any impurity phases. The synthesized phosphor could be excited by UV light (254 or 365 nm) and the emission spectra results indicated that bright red luminescence of CaZrO3 : Eu3+ due to magnetic dipole transition 5D07F2 at 615 nm was dominant.

  • FED has deserved an intensive attentioD as a new flat panel display. The present investigationaims at undemtanding the photoluminescence and cathodoluminescent properties of hGaO$_3$: $Eu^{3+}$ phosphor bytaking into account the possibility that this phosphor could be applied for FED. In onler to investigate on.sucha detailed behavior; 8everM experimental skil18 Je conducted to the LaGaO$_3$:$Eu^{3+}$ phosphoL The excimtion srectrum artd emission spectmn were rnezsured in the UV range and then decay curve of $^5D_0$+$^7F_j$transitions\vas examined. The decay behavior of $^5D_0$ emission was anMyzed by a newly Iuoposed cross-relaxation mech-ani8In in asswiation with inteFwnter di1ffision (or migration). The cross-mlaxation from $^5D_0$ to CTB (Cha'geTransfer Band) wuld be a quite retsonable by considering the excitation spectrum. It could be also found thatthe quenching type was changed from ditfrsion controlled process to the direct quenching process -s inJeasing $Eu^{3+}$ oncntration.

Synthesis and Optical Properties of CaMoO4:RE3+ (RE=Eu, Dy) Phosphors (CaMoO4:RE3+ (RE=Eu, Dy) 형광체의 제조와 광학 특성)

  • Rare earth ions, either $Eu^{3+}$ or $Dy^{3+}$-doped $CaMoO_4$ phosphors were synthesized by using the solid-state reaction method. The crystalline structure of all the phosphor powders, irrespective of the type and concentration of activator ions, was found to be a tetragonal system with the main diffraction peak at (112) plane. For $Eu^{3+}$-doped $CaMoO_4$ phosphors, the grain particles showed an increasing tendency and the pebble-like patterns with a very homogeneous size distribution in the range of 0.01~0.10 mol of $Eu^{3+}$ ions concentration, and the excitation spectra were composed of a broad band centered at 311 nm and weak multiline peaked in the range of 360~470 nm. The dominant emission spectrum was the strong red emission centered at 618 nm due to the $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_2$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$ ions. For $Dy^{3+}$-doped $CaMoO_4$ powders, excitation spectra showed a charge transfer band centered at 303 nm and relatively weak bands resulting from the transitions of $Dy^{3+}$ ions and the main yellow emission spectrum was observed at 578 nm, which was assigned to the $^4F_{9/2}{\rightarrow}^7H_{13/2}$ transition of $Dy^{3+}$ ions.

  • Various colors of light emitting diodes(LED) and four-band white light sources are obtained using a violet LED and various phosphor films. $BaMg_2Al_{16}O_{27}:Eu\;(blue),\;SrGa_2S_4:Eu\;(green),\;and\;Eu(TTA)_3(PTA)$ (red) phosphors are dispersed in poly-vinyl-alcohol aqueous solutions, and phosphor films are prepared by coating the suspensions to PET film. The narrow band emission of $Eu(TTA)_3(PTA)$ phosphor has excellent red luminescent property for four-band white light excited by the violet LED.

  • Europium-activated Ga$_2$O$_3$powders were prepared by modified "Pechini method" from mixed aqueous solutions of gallium nitrate, europium nitrate, ethylene glycol and citric acid. The formation process and structure of the phosphor powders were investigated by means of TG/DTA, XRD and SEM. It has been found that the phosphor powders were amorphous up to 50$0^{\circ}C$ and changed into crystalline $\beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$phase above $600^{\circ}C$. The resulting nano-sized powders were obtained. Red luminescence in emission spectra were observed at room temperature.

  • [ $SrTiO_3$ ]:Al, Pr red phosphors for FED were synthesized by solid state reaction method. The dependence of their luminescent properties on Sr and Al concentration was investigated. The $SrTiO_3$: Al, Pr phosphors showed the characteristic X-ray diffraction patterns of the perovskite structure. Photoluminescence intensity and lattice constant in $SrTiO_3$: Al, Pr phosphors changed in quite a similar manner with Sr concentration. Photoluminescence intensity increased with increasing lattice constant, and the decrease of photoluminescence intensity and lattice constant occurred in the vicinity of 1 mol Sr concentration.

  • SrTiO3 :Al, Pr phosphor as an oxide compound phosphor is expect to be applied for a field emission display(FED). In this phosphor the excitation spectrum shows a different tendency according to an addition Al3+ and Pr3+ In this excitation spectrum the main peak at 359 nm represent excitation level of Pr3+(1S0longrightarrow1D2 transition) and the absorption characteristic according to Ti/Sr molar ratio is influenced by the structure symmetry. The emission spectrum exhibits the red luminescence with the radiative decay of the 1D2 states(1D2 longrightarrow3H4 transition) The concentration quenching phenomena at 1D2 state shows up as Al3+ and Pr3+ ion concentration increases.
