  • The behavior of a plane buoyant jet within the zone of flow establishment(ZFE) which is discharged vertically upward into a stagnant uniform environment, is analyzed by the integral equations of mass, momentum and tracer conservation. The analysis includes the spreading ratio with Froude number and geometry of the potential core of ZFE and the length of ZFE. The central velocity at the end of ZFE is found to be influenced significantly by buoyancy, especially at low discharge Froude number. The results provide the necessary initial conditions for the investigation of the zone of established flow.

  • With increases in the rotational speed of hydraulic machine, studies on the hydrodynamic characteristics of supercavitating cascade are important on the view of flow analysis and design of fluid machinery. In the present paper, the complex functions of nonlinear theory corresponding to the flow of supercavitating cascade can be obtained by distributing singulary singulary points such as sources, vortexes and doublets on hydrofoil and free streamline. The numerical calculations on the closed wake model and semi-closed wake model are carried out in order to show the flow characteristics around the supecavitating cascade with finite with finite cavity length. As the result of this study, the flow characteristics such as lift, drag and cavitation coefficients are predicted by the flow conditions of supercavitating cascade in the fluid machinery.

  • An experimental study is made of turbulent shear flows in a nearly two-dimensional 90.deg. curved duct by using the hot-wire anemometer. The Reynolds normal and shear stresses, triple velocity products, integral length scales, Taylor micro length scales and dissipation length scales are measured and analyzed. For a positive shear at the inlet, the afore-mentioned turbulence quantities are all suppressed. However, when the inlet shear flow is negative, they are augmented, i.e., the convex curvature suppresses the turbulence whereas the concave curvature augments it. It is found that the curvature effects are rather sensitive to the triple velocity products than the Reynolds stresses. The evolution of turbulence under the curvature with the different shear conditions is well described by the modified curvature parameter S' and the non-dimensional development time ${\tau}$.'

  • The present study considers the thermal structure variation in a porous medium caused by changing the most important radiative property of porous medium, absorption coefficient, as well as altering the physical dimension of porous medium and the equivalence ratio of premixed gas mixture. The radiation model was introduced as an unsteady differential form using the two-flux gray radiation model. The role of the conductive heat transfer through both gas phase and porous medium was found to be almost insignificant compared with that of the radiative heat transfer. The reaction zone shifted upstream and the flame thickness decreased as either the geometrical length of porous medium increased or the absorption coefficient decreased.

  • The practical application of riblet to three dimensional double model, for viscous drag reduction, was studied analytically by intergal solution to three dimensional turbulent boundary layers. The case of a V-groove riblet technique on the shear stress and boundary layer velocities were incooperated in the computation of the flow over a smooth slender ship hull. As the results the possible mechanism of turbulent drag reduction by riblets are then suggested based on detailed studies of near-wall turbulence characteristics. And a turbulent boundary layer calculation scheme based on a momentum integral method was modified for the computer program. An example of the calculation results is presented.

  • A computational method of the Michell integral for water of finite depth is developed and the method makes use of the expansion of the hull form by the Legendre polynomial in both the longitudinal and the vertical directions. The wave resistance coefficient is given as a quadruple summation of the product of the shape factor and the hydrodynamic factor. The shape factor depends only upon the geometry of the hull form, and the hydrodynamic factor upon the depth-based Froude number and the ratios of the water depth and the draft to the ship length. Example calculations are done for the Wigley parabolic hull and the Series 60 $C_B$ 0.6, and the comparison of our results with the existing experimental data is shown.

  • In order to reduce damages due to cavitation effects and to improve performance of fluid machinery, supercavitation around the cascade and the hydraulic characteristics of supercavitating cascade must be analyzed accurately. And the study on the effects of cavitation on fluid machinery and analysis on the performances of supercavitating hydrofoil through various elements governing flow field are critically important. In this study comparison of experiment results with the computed results of linear theory using singularity method was obtainable. Specially singularity points like sources and vortexes on hydrofoil and freestreamline were distributed to analyze two dimensional flow field of supercavitating cascade, and governing equations of flow field were derived and hydraulic characteristics of cascade were calculated by numerical analysis of the governing equations.

  • The characteristics of the floating breakwater is briefly reviewed and their performance is numerically investigated. The numerical scheme is a boundary integral method for inviscid potential flows, and various two-dimensional floating breakwater modules are studied focusing on the transmission coefficient. The general characteristics of pontoons is studied as function of mooring line stiffness, mass moment inertia and draft. Trapezoidal-, hat- and table-shape cross-sections are also studied with varying shape-parameters. The efficiency varies with changes in each shape-parameter and for some cases satisfying tranquility can be expected with even longer waves.

  • In this paper, the performance about the CDMA inital synchronization under the Rician fading channel, which is actively studied as a CAI for IMT2000(FPLMTS) is analyzed. Through the performance analysis with the double dwell serial search code acquisition, the minimum mean initial synchronization acquisition time vs signal detection threshold value and first dwell duration time respectively with parameters of false alarm probability, detection probability and test PN chips is presented and the results show the mean initial synchronization acquisition time is increased with lower slope than Rayleigh fading as the threshold value of the initial synchronization acquisition decision is increased.

  • Particle image velocimetry(PIV), a planar measuring technique, is an efficient tool for studying the complicated flow field such as in-cylinder flow, and intake port flow. PIV can be also used for analyzing the integral length scale of turbulence, which is a measure of the size of the large eddies that contain most of the turbulence kinetic energy. In this study, dual color scanning PIV was designed and demonstrated by using a rotating mirror and a beam splitter. This PIV system allowed enlargement of flexibility in the intensity of vectors to be calculated by spatial filtering technique, even in combustion chamber with high velocity gradient and high vorticity$({\sim}1000s^{-1})$. A new color image processing algorithm was developed, which was used to find the direction of particle movement directly from the digital image. These measuring techniques were successfully applied to obtaining the turbulence intensity (~0.1m/s) and the turbulent integral length scale of vorticity(~1mm).
