Reviewing the Explosively Deepening Cyclone(Cyclonic Bomb) over the East Sea with the Satellite Observations (위성관측에 의한 동해상의 폭발적 저기압의 고찰)

  • The characteristics of rapid development of the low pressure system over the East Sea from 06 to 08 Nov., 1995 has been analyzed in detail by the synoptic numerical products and satellite observations. The Low system was initially triggered the development of the baroclinic leaf cloud over the border of the northern part of Korea and China and moved eastward and then developed explosively com-ma or lambda type cloud system over the East Sea. To forecast well the general development and movement of the coastal winter cyclone over the East Sea popularly in a numerical simulation by several scientists, the large baroclinicity, continuous support of water vapor, and sequential cold outbreak over the warm sea surface have been more commonly concerned about. The cyclone which the central surface pressure was dropped 40hPa within 24 hours has often accompanied strong wind and heavy snow- or rain-fall in the winter season. In all successive observations with 12-hourly satellite imagery and analyzed meteorological variables in this period, the centers of the sea-level pressure and 500hPa geopotential height associated with this cyclone were typically illustrated by moving farther eastward using GMS combined enhanced IR images. The maxi-mum wind sustained by this system with the intensity and central pressure of tropical storm was about 60 knots with the center pressure drop of 44hPa/day similar to the North American cyclonic bomb and Atlantic storm.

S-Band Low Noise Amplifier Based on GaN HEMT for High Input Power Robustness (고입력 내성을 위한 GaN HEMT 기반 S-대역 저잡음 증폭기)

  • In this paper, we present design and measurement of LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) based on GaN HEMT(Gallium Nitride High Electron Mobility Transistor) to reduce the total noise figure of radar receiver and for robustness of LNA. In radar receiver using LNA based on GaAs(Gallium Arsenide) technology, limiter is necessary at the very front of the radar receiver to protect LNA. As a result, total noise figure of radar receiver is deteriorated. In this research, measured noise figure of LNA based on GaN HEMT is below 2 dB. In the case of commercialized GaAs LNA, recommended maximum input power is about 30 dBm. On the other hand, GaN HEMT LNA which is designed and measured is burned-out when input power is 43 dBm and robustness is guaranteed at input power 45.4 dBm.

Design of a Low-Power MOS Current-Mode Logic Circuit (저 전력 MOS 전류모드 논리회로 설계)

  • This paper proposes a low-power MOS current-mode logic circuit with the low voltage swing technology and the high-threshold sleep-transistor. The sleep-transistor is used to high-threshold voltage PMOS transistor to minimize the leakage current. The $16{\times}16$ bit parallel multiplier is designed by the proposed circuit structure. Comparing with the conventional MOS current-model logic circuit, the circuit achieves the reduction of the power consumption in sleep mode by 1/104. The proposed circuit is achieved to reduce the power consumption by 11.7% and the power-delay-product by 15.1% compared with the conventional MOS current-model logic circuit in the normal mode. This circuit is designed with Samsung $0.18\;{\mu}m$ standard CMOS process. The validity and effectiveness are verified through the HSPICE simulation.

Evaluation of the concrete using low quality recycled aggregate (저품질 순환골재를 활용한 콘크리트 성능 평가)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the properties of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) using low quality recycled aggregate with or without washing before usage. The recycled aggregate concrete evaluated in this study contained various amounts of low quality recycled aggregate, viz. 30%, 60% and 100%. To evaluate the performance of the recycled aggregate concrete, various test methods were employed to assess its compressive strength, absorption, surface resistance, ultrasound velocity, chloride ion resistance, etc. The properties of the RAC with 30% and 60% washed recycled aggregate were similar those of the natural aggregate. However, the properties of the RAC with 100% washed recycled aggregate were slightly lower than those of the other versions. Also, the RAC with the non-washed recycled aggregate exhibited lower performance results. The results showed that the RAC with washed recycled aggregate had similar properties to normal concrete (concrete using natural aggregate). This implies that the recycled aggregate should be washed to improve the RCA.

Case Study on the State of Sea Surface with Low Atmospheric Pressure and Typhoon Conditions over the fellow Sea (저기압 및 태풍 통과시 서해상의 해상상태 사례 분석)

  • In this study, state of sea surface were analyzed comparatively for cases of low atmospheric pressure, which occurred in the middle area of China and moved eastward to the Korean Peninsula across the Yellow sea during April 9-12, 1999, and typhoons 'NEIL' May 1999 and 'OLGA' July 1999, which moved northward along the west coast of the Korean Peninsula. In cases of low pressure, wind speeds and phases were respectively stronger and faster in the center area than in the surrounding areas. The wave heights seem to a somewhat differing tendency from that of the wind speeds due to the influences of geometry. On the other hand, wave heights were lower under typhoon weather than under low pressures, except the instance of wave height over 5 m on Chilbal when typhoon Olga pass northward from the southern area. Storm surges also showed larger amplitudes under low pressures than under typhoons. The results suggest that wave sand storm surges may be larger for a slow passing synoptic low pressures than for a fast passing local typhoon.

A MedRadio-Band Low Power Low Noise Amplifier for Medical Devices (의료기기용 MedRadio 대역 저전력 저잡음 증폭기)

  • This paper presents a MedRadio-band low power low noise amplifier for Medical Devices. A proposed MedRadio-band low power low noise amplifier adopts a current-reuse resistive feedback topology to increase overall gm and reduce power consumption. The gain of the LNA increases by the Q-factor of the additional series RLC input matching network, and its noise figure is minimized by the similar factor. Furthermore, it consumes low power because of low supply voltage and current reuse technique. By exploiting the $g_m$-booting and matching network property, the proposed MedRadio-band low noise amplifier achieves a noise figure of 0.85 dB, a voltage gain of 30 dB, and IIP3 of -7.9 dBm while consuming 0.18 mA from a 1 V supply voltage in $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS technology.

A Study on the Low Power Algorithm consider the Battery and the Task (배터리와 태스크를 고려한 저전력 알고리듬 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed the low power algorithm consider the battery and the task. The proposed algorithm setting the power consumption of unit time consider the capacity of the battery and the target time. Calculate the power consumption of all tasks. Calculate the average power consumption by the task have maximum power consumption and the task have minimum power consumption. Recalculate average power consumption consider the unit time of task. Compare calculated average power consumption and average power consumption of task. Compared results, low power algorithm processing the average power consumption less than or equal calculated power consumption of task. Low-power algorithm is greater than the average power consumption of the task to perform targeted tasks. Low-power processors and the task by dividing the power consumption of the device in large part for the low-power consumption is performed. Experiments [6] were compared with the results of the power consumption. The experimental results [6] is reduced power consumption than the efficiency of the algorithm has been demonstrated.

Colloidal synthesis of IR-Iuminescent HgTe quantum dots (콜로이드 합성법에 의한 HgTe 양자점의 제조와 특성 분석)

  • HgTe quantum dots were synthesized in aqueous solution at room temperature by colloidal method. The synthesized materials were identified to be zincblende cubic structured HgTe quantum dots by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy image revealed that these quantum dots are agglomerate of a individual particle. The colloidally prepared HgTe quantum dots have the sphere-like shape with a diameter of approximately 4 nm. The optical properties of the HgTe quantum dots were investigated with photoluminescence(PL). The PL appears in the near-infrared region, which represent a dramatic shift from bulk HgTe behavior. The analytic results revealed that HgTe quantum dots have the broad size distribution, as PL emission spectrum covers the spectral region from 900 to 1400 nm.
