Many researchers have studied on the optimal seismic design with the development of the computer. So far the application structure of most researches on the optimal seismic design was almost the moment resisting frame. Because the braced frames are the representative lateral load resisting system with the moment resisting frames, it is estimated that the effect on the practice will be great if it can is provided a design guideline through the development of optimal seismic design model for the braced frames. The purpose of this study is to propose the optimal seismic design model for the inverted V-type special concentrically braced frames considering the buckling of braces. The objective functions of this are to minimize the structural weight and maximize the total dissipated energy of the structure and the constraints of this are the strength conditions for the column, beam, brace and inter-story drifts condition. To verify the proposed model, it is applied to 2D steel concentrically braced frames of 3-story and 9-story.

In this paper the moment transfer efficiency of a web and the strain concentration at the RHS (Rectangular Hollow Section) column-to-steel beam connections was evaluated. Initially, non-linear finite element analysis of five bare steel beam models was conducted. The models were designed to have different detail at their beam-to-column connection, so that the flexural moment capacity was different respectively. Analysis results showed that the moment transfer efficiency of the analytical model with RHS-column was poor when comparing to model with WF(Wide Flnage)-column due to out-of-plane deformation of the RHS-column flange. The presence of scallop and thin plate of RHS column was also a reason of the decrease of moment transfer efficiency, which would result in a potential fracture of the steel beam-to-column connections. Analytical results were compared with the previous experimental results. The analytical and the previous experimental results showed that the strain concentration was inversely proportional to the moment transfer efficiency of a beam web and the deformation capacity of connection was poor as their moment transfer efficiency degrades. Further finite element analyses of composite beam with a floor slab revealed that the neutral axis moved toward the top flange and the moment transfer efficiency of a beam web decreased, which led to premature failure of the connection.

This study summarizes the results of a research project aimed at investigating the inelastic rotation capacity of beam-column joints of reinforced concrete special moment frames. All of the test specimens were classified as special moment frame (SMF), based on the design and detailing requirements of the ACI 318-02 provisions. The acceptance criteria, originally defined for steel moment frame connections in the 1997 edition of the AISC Seismic provisions, were used to evaluate the beam-column joints of the reinforced concrete moment frames. A total of 39 test specimens were examined in detail. Most of the joints that satisfy the design requirements for special moment frame structures were found to be ductile up to a plastic rotation of 3% without any major degradation in strength. This is mainly due to the stringent ACI 318-02 requirements for special moment frame joints. The presence of transverse beams increases confinement and shear resistance of joints, which results in better performance than for joints without transverse beams. All of the SMF connections that satisfy the ACI 318-02 limitations on joint shear stress turned out to meet the acceptance criteria.
This study was programmed to fabricate a beam-to-column connection that is limited to a steel-welded moment connection with full-scale members, using SN steel. A cyclic seismic test was conducted of the nine specimens that were fabricated by choosing the test variable for the weld access hole geometry, connection design method, and RBS. From the test results, failure modes, the moment-drift behavior, and the strain distribution were provided. From the specimen material properties, the beam's nominal plastic flexural capacity and classified qualified connection as a special moment flame were calculated. By analyzing the skeleton part and the baushinger part, a range of strength-raising effects, and deformation ratios were provided, with which the seismic performance of the specimens were evaluated. The test results showed that the specimens eliminated their weld access holes that demonstrated higher seismic performance than the specimens' existing weld access holes, and that the WUF-W connection that was reinforced by the supplemental fillet weld around the shear tap that was fastened by five bolts demonstrated superior seismic performance.
In order to achieve a desirable tooth movement, it is of great importance to control the M/F ratio and to know the location of the center of resistance. The purpose of this study was to locate the center of resistance and the axis of rotation, and to estimate the stress distribution in the periodontal ligament with experimental model. After preparing a model of an upper canine with a simulated periodontal ligament and alveolar bone, the force and moment were applied. The tooth movement was traced using measuring device with LVDTs(Linear variable differential transformers) that can measure three dimensional tooth movement in real time. The results were as follows. 1. The location of center of resistance by transverse force was $29\%$ of root length measured from alveolar crest to apex regardless of force magnitude. The position of the center of resistance is more coronal than that of two-dimensional model($42\%$). 2. The center of resistance and the axis of rotation coincide when couple moment was applied. 3. As the magnitude of moment increases, tooth tends to extrude irrespective of the direction of the moment. 4. The relationship between location of force and axis of rotation (a x b = $49.6\;mm^2$) was obtained. A tooth movement can be predicted through this formula. 5. The centers of rotation by transverse force were plotted linearly.
In order to evaluate the bond performance of domestic larch glulam and the glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) rod, the specimen with the GFRP rod bonded-in domestic larch glulam for pull-out test was produced. The test was carried out using various specimens with different gluing depth, width of glue-line and type of adhesive. The cantilever type rahmen structure specimen with bonded-in GFRP rods was produced based on the result of pull-out test, and its moment resistance performance was compared and examined with the moment resistance performance of slotted-in steel plate specimen. As a result of the pull-out test, the most excellent bond performance was found when the insertion depth of GFRP rods was 5 times larger than the diameter of GFRP rods. When the glue-line thickness was 1 mm, the bond performance improved by 17%~29% in comparison to the bond performance in the case of the glue-line thickness of 2 mm. Also, the bonded strength of the specimen used with poly-urethane adhesive was 2.9~4.0 times greater than the bonded strength of specimen used with resorcinol adhesive. The cantilever type rahmen structure specimen with bonded-in GFRP rods showed the moment resistance performance 0.82 times lower in comparison to the slotted-in steel plate specimen used with the drift pin, but the initial stiffness was similar as 0.93 times.

A method of moments model for the resistive vee dipole has been established. In order to validate the numerical model, an experimental model is built and reflections from the antenna in the feed line are measured. The measured data and the numerical data agree closely validating the numerical model. Based on the numerical model, efficiency of the antenna and the power dissipated in the resistors are analyzed. The results show that the antenna has low radiation efficiency because of the loading resistors and that the resistors near the drive point of the antenna dissipate more power than do the resisters far from the drive point. The results can be used to determine the amount of power that can be accepted by the resistive vee dipole, to determine the power rating of the loading resistors for a desired application, or to estimate the operation range of the antenna.
On the basis of the strain-based shear strength model developed in the previous study, a strength model was developed to predict the direct punching shear capacity and unbalanced moment-carrying capacity of interior and exterior slab-column connections. Since the connections are severely damaged by flexural cracking, punching shear was assumed to be resisted mainly by the compression zone of the slab critical section. Considering the interaction with the compressive normal stress developed by the flexural moment, the shear strength of the compression zone was derived on the basis of the material failure criteria of concrete subjected to multiple stresses. As a result, shear capacity of the critical section was defined according to the degree of flexural damage. Since the exterior slab-column connections have unsymmertical critical sections, the unbalanced moment-carrying capacity was defined according to the direction of unbalanced moment. The proposed strength model was applied to existing test specimens. The results showed that the proposed method predicted the strengths of the test specimens better than current design methods.
Moment frames have been widely used in building construction. In current design codes, concrete moment frames are classified into ordinary, intermediate, and special moment resisting concrete frames (OMRCF, IMRCF, SMRCF)). The objective of this study is to investigate the seismic behavior of columns in ordinary moment resisting concrete frames (OMRCF) and intermediate moment resisting concrete frames (IMRCF). For this purpose 3 story OMRCF and IMRCF buildings were designed and detailed in compliance to ACI 318 (2002) and KCI (1999). In this study the buildings were assumed to be located in seismic zone 1 classified by UBC (1997). This study considered the columns in the 1st story since these columns shall resist the largest axial and lateral forces during an earthquake. Eight 2/3 scale column specimens were made for representing the upper part and lower part of exterior and interior columns of the OMRCF and the IMRCF Quasi-static reversed cyclic loading was applied to each specimen with a constant or varying axial load. Test results show that seismic behaviors of columns are influenced by existence of lap splices, axial force levels, and lateral reinforcement at possible plastic hinging region. However, the effect of such variables strongly co-related to each other.
