Cramér-Rao Lower Bound of Multipath Angle Estimation for Low-Flying Target of Dual-Frequency Airborne Radar (항공기 레이다에 있어 두 개의 주파수를 사용하였을 때 저고도 표적 다중경로 각도 추정의 CRLB)

  • If two signals with the same single-tone frequency and differing phases impinge simultaneously on an antenna at slightly differing angles, then a large error in the angle estimation might occur if the phase difference is either $0^{\circ}$ or $180^{\circ}$. This phenomenon might arise with an airborne fire-control radar, which has a relatively small bandwidth, for a low-flying target over the sea or terrain surface. In this paper, we show that the $Cram{\acute{e}}r$-Rao lower bound for such a target can be significantly lowered with the use of two frequencies.

Analysis of Detection Method for the Weather Change in a Local Weather Radar (국지적 기상 레이다에서의 기상 변화 탐지 방법 분석)

  • Most of weather radar systems are used to monitor the whole weather situation for the very wide and medium-to-long range area. However, as the likelihood of occurrence of the local weather hazards is increased in recent days, it is very important to detect these wether phenomena with a local weather radar. For this purpose, it is necessary to detect the fast varying low altitude weather conditions and the effect of the ground surface clutter is more evident. Therefore, in this paper, the newly suggested method is explained and analyzed for detection of weather hazards such as the gust and wind shear using the fluctuation of wind velocities and the gradient of wind velocities among range cells. It is shown that the suggested method can be used efficiently in the future for faster detection of weather change through the simple algorithm implementation and also the effect of the ground clutter can be minimized in the detection procedure.

  • As the likelihood of occurrence of the localized microbursts or severe flooding is increased due to the unusual weather changes, it is the very urgent problem to detect these weather hazards with a local weather radar. For a local weather radar of this purpose, it is essential to detect the low altitude and the fast varying weather conditions. Therefore, the very fast update of the weather information and the efficient clutter removal is very important. To achieve this goal, the appropriate method should be applied which does not need the mechanical elevation scanning and has the capability of the efficient clutter removal. Therefore, in this paper, the usefulness of the implementation of elevational filter banks with the spatial FFT algorithm was analyzed and investigated using a simple array antenna. It is shown that the suggested method can be used for both the minimization of the ground clutter and the fast update of weather information.

Verification of Low-Level Wind Shear Prediction System Using Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) (항공기 기상관측자료(AMDAR)를 이용한 인천국제공항 저고도 급변풍 예측시스템 검증)

  • In order to predict low-level wind shear at Incheon International Airport (RKSI), a Low-Level Wind Shear prediction system (KMAP-LLWS) along the runway take-off and landing route at RKSI was established using Korea Meteorological Administration Post-Processing (KMAP). For the performance evaluation, the case of low-level wind shear cases calculated from Aircraft Meteorological Data Relay (AMDAR) from July 2021 to June 2022 was used. As a result of verification using the performance evaluation index, POD, FAR, CSI, and TSS were 0.5, 0.85, 0.13, and 0.34, respectively, and the prediction performance was improved by POD, CSI, and TSS compared to the Low-Level Wind Shear prediction system (LDPS-LLWS) calculated using the Korea Meteorological Administration's Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS). This means that the use of high-resolution numerical models improves the predictability of wind changes. In addition, to improve the high FAR of KMAP-LLWS, the threshold for low-level wind shear strength was adjusted. As a result, the most effective low-level wind shear threshold at 8.5 knot/100 ft was derived. This study suggests that it is possible to predict and respond to low-level wind shear at RKSI. In addition, it will be possible to predict low-level wind shear at other airports without wind shear observation equipment by applying the KMAP-LLWS.

Absolute Altitude Determination for 3-D Indoor and Outdoor Positioning Using Reference Station (기준국을 이용한 실내·외 절대 고도 산출 및 3D 항법)

  • The topic of this paper is the advanced absolute altitude determination for 3-D positioning using barometric altimeter and the reference station. Barometric altimeter does not provide absolute altitude because atmosphere pressure always varies over the time and geographical location. Also, since Global Navigation Satellites system such as GPS, GLONASS has geometric error, the altitude information is not available. It is the reason why we suggested the new method to improve the altitude accuracy. This paper shows 3-D positioning algorithm using absolute altitude determination method and evaluates the algorithm by real field tests. We used an accurate altitude from RTK system in Seoul as a reference data and acquired the differential value of pressure data between a reference station and a mobile station equipped in low cost barometric altimeter. In addition, the performance and advantage of the proposed method was evaluated by 3-D experiment analysis of PNS and CNS. We expect that the proposed method can expand 2-D positioning system 3-D position determination system simply and this 3-D position determination technique can be very useful for the workers in the field of fire-fighting and construction.

  • This paper describes the development results of electrohydraulic actuation system which performs the attitude and trajectory control of pitch and yaw motion using thrust vector control for high altitude launching vehicle operated in high vacuum environment (altitude higher than 300 km). As compared with electrohydraulic actuation system for low altitude launch vehicle which operated under altitude of stratosphere, the intensified development requirements, newly adopted design and manufacturing technologies, newly developed test equipments and test results are summarized in this paper. The development test and evaluation of actuation system were successfully accomplished. The developed actuation system will be installed on KSLV-I after finishing verification of interface and integration compatibility with related other systems.

An Analysis of the KOMPSAT-1 Operational Orbit Evolution Over 3 Years (아리랑 1호 임무기간 3년 동안의 궤도변화 분석)

  • The operational orbit evolution of the KOMPSAT-l over 3 years was analyzed. During LEOP, four orbit maneuvers were performed to obtain the optimized orbit and eight safe-hold modes happened. The effects of unpredictable occurrence of the safe-hold mode and the highest solar activity on the orbit evolution during the mission life were analyzed. The comparison of orbital elements between long-term predicted orbit and determined orbit from observed data was also performed. The operational orbit started from the optimized one was evolved within the boundary of the designed mission orbit except altitude and it was verified the sun-synchronous orbit was successfully maintained.

  • This paper describes the radar tracking errors due to the presence of surface reflected waves. We investigate the previous studies on tracking errors and developed a tracking error estimation program using Matlab. We suggest an accurate error prediction method by considering the antenna beamwidth and surface reflection coefficient. The presented results well agree with theoretical predictions.

An Experimental Study on Thrust of Ground and High Altitude by Hydrogen Peroxide/Kerosene Engine (과산화수소-케로신 엔진을 이용한 지상 및 고고도 추력에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Ground and high altitude simulated combustion experiments were conducted using a liquid rocket engine with hydrogen peroxide and kerosene as the propellant. A ground and high altitude simulated combustion test facility was constructed by installing a high altitude model diffuser and TMS (Thrust Measuring System) on a vertical combustion test bench. The thrust characteristics according to altitude were investigated using the combustion test equipment. The diffuser was designed on a 1:4.8 scale to verify the characteristics of the high diffusing diffuser and starting pressure. The cold flow tests were conducted using nitrogen gas, and the performance characteristics and starting characteristics of the scale down diffuser were verified. A diffuser and TMS were installed on the vertical combustion test bench, and the thrust correction equations for the system resistance were derived. The thrust correction equations were derived from the step test and vacuum step test before the actual hot firing test. Nozzles with an operating altitude of 10km were designed. Hot firing tests were conducted to analyze the thrust characteristics according to the operating altitude changes. The actual thrust was calculated using each correction equation with the thrust value measured by the TMS.

  • UWB(Ultra Wide Band)는 차세대 무선통신 기술로 무선 디지털펄스라고도 한다. GHz대의 주파수를 사용하면서도 초당 수천~수백만 회의 저출력 펄스로 이루어진 것이 큰 특징이다[1]. 기존 무선통신 기술의 양대 축인 IEEE 802.11과 블루투스 등에 비해 속도와 전력소모 등에서 월등히 앞서고 있으며, SoC(System on a Chip)의 저전력 구현에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. OFDM은 크게 FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) 블록, Interpolation /decimation 필터 블록, 비터비 블록, 변복조 블록, 등화기 블록 등으로 구성된다. 고속 시스템에서는 대역효율성이 우수한 OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) 방식을 사용하고 있으며, OFDM 전송방식은 직렬로 입력되는 데이터 열을 병렬 데이터 열로 변환한 후에 부반송파에 실어 전송하는 방식이다. 이와 같은 병렬화와 부반송파를 곱하는 동작은 IFFT와 FFT로 구현이 가능한데, FFT 블록의 구현 비용과 전력소모를 줄이는 것이 핵심사항이라고 할 수 있다. 기존논문에서는 OFDM용 FFT 구조로 단일버터플라이연산자 구조, 파이프라인 구조, 병렬구조 등의 여러 구조가 제안되었다[2]. 본 논문에서는 Radix-8 FFT 알고리즘 기반의 New partial Arithmetic 저전력 FFT 구조를 제안하였다. 제안한 New partial Arithmetic 저전력 FFT구조는 곱셈기 대신 병렬 가산기를 이용 하여 지금까지 사용되는 FFT 구조보다 전력소모를 줄일 수 있음을 보였다.
