The method to generate a digital elevation model(DEM) from contour lines causes a problem in which the low relief landform cannot be clearly presented due to the fact that it is significantly influenced by the expression of micro landform elements according to the interval of contours. Thus, this study attempts to develop a landcover burning method that recovers the micro relief landform of the DEM, which applies buffering and map algebra methods by inputting the elevation information to the landcover. In the recovering process of the micro landform, the DEM was recovered using the buffering method and elevation information through the map algebra for the landcover element for the micro landform among the primary DEM generation, making landcover map, and landcover elements. The recovering of the micro landform was applied based on stream landforms. The recovering of landforms using the buffering method was performed for the bar, which is a polygonal element, and wetland according to the properties of concave/convex through generating contours with a uniform interval in which the elevation information applied to the recovered landform. In the case of the linear elements, such as bank, road, waterway, and tributary, the landform can be recovered by using the elevation information through applying a map algebra function. Because the polygonal elements, such as stream channel, river terrace, and artificial objects (farmlands) are determined as a flat property, these are recovered by inputting constant elevation values. The results of this study were compared and analyzed for the degree of landform expression between the original DEM and the recovered DEM. In the results of the analysis, the DEM produced by using the conventional method showed few expressions in micro landform elements. The method developed in this study well described wetland, bar, landform around rivers, farmland, bank, river terrace, and artificial objects. It can be expected that the results of this study contribute to the classification and analysis of micro landforms, plain and the ecology and environment study that requires the recovering of micro landforms around streams and rivers.
The pathogenicity of hexagonal and tetragonal cytoplasmic polyhedron virus to one of present leading silkworm varieties, Jam 103${\times}$Jam 104, and its parents, Jam 103 and Jam 104, was investigated. The activation of occult virus by oral inoculation of foreign virus as well as the interference phenomena between the activated and inoculated cytoplasmic polyhedron viruses was observed and the results obtained are as follows. 1. The pathogenicity of cytoplasmic polyhedrosis viruses. 1) There was a high significant difference in the pathogenicity of hexagonal polyhedron virus between the hybrid and its parents showing the lowest infection rate in the hybrid (Jam 103${\times}$Jam 104), medium infection rate in the Japanese line (Jam 103) and the highest infection rate in the Chinese line (Jam 104). In the pathogenicityof tetragonal polyhedron virus, a significant difference was observed only between the hybrid (Jam 103${\times}$Jam 104) and the Chinese line (Jam 104) by showing a higher infection rate in the Chinese line than in the hybrid. 2) The pathogenicity of both hexagonal and tetragonal polyhedron viruses showed a high significant difference in different silkworm instars inoculated by showing a higher infection rate at the second instar than at the fourth instar. 3) The pathogenicity of both hexagonal and tetragonal polyhedron viruses was increased as the concentration of viruses inoculated increased. 2. The phenomena of induction and interference by oral inoculation of foreign virus. 1) The induction rate of cytoplasmic polyhedrosis virus was higher in the parents than in the hybrid. In the parents. a higher rate in the Chinese line than in the Japanese line was observed. 2) The effect of inoculation at different instars on the induction was studied and the induction rate was higher at the second instar inoculated than at the fourth instar inoculated. 3) The degree of activation of hexagonal polyhedron virus with inoculation of tetragonal polyhedron virus was very high when a lower concentration of virus was inoculated and it was very low when a higher concentration of virus was inoculated 4) The degree of activation of tetragonal polyhedron virus with inoculation of hexagonal polyhedron virus was very low when a lower concentration of virus was inoculated and it was not observed when a higher concentration of virus was inoculated. 5) The mixed infection rate with hexagonal and tetragonal polyhedron viruses was higher at the second instar inoculated than at the fourth instar inoculated. 6) It was observed that the secondary hexagonal pc]yhedron virus activated interfered with the primary tetragonal polyhedron virus inoculated when the inoculated concentration of the primary virus is low and the primary virus inoculated interfered with the secondary virus activated when the inoculated concentration of the primary virus is high.
We report the design and performance analysis of an off-axis three-mirror telescope as the fore optics for a new hyperspectral sensor aboard a small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), for low-altitude coastal remote sensing. The sensor needs to have at least 4 cm of spatial resolution at an operating altitude of 500 m, $4^{\circ}$ field of view (FOV), and a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 100 at 660 nm. For these performance requirements, the sensor's optical design has an entrance pupil diameter of 70 mm and an F-ratio of 5.0. The fore optics is a three-mirror system, including aspheric primary and secondary mirrors. The optical performance is expected to reach $1/15{\lambda}$ in RMS wavefront error and 0.75 in MTF value at 660 nm. Considering the manufacturing and assembling phase, we determined the alignment compensation due to the tertiary mirror from the sensitivity, and derived the tilt-tolerance range to be 0.17 mrad. The off-axis three-mirror telescope, which has better performance than the fore optics of other hyperspectral sensors and is fitted for a small UAV, will contribute to ocean remote-sensing research.
Experiments were conducted to select the new varieties and or/lines of rice resistant to the green rice leafhopper, Nephotettix cincticeps Uhler, and to evaluate the nature of their resistance to the insects in connection with the antibiosis and feeding and ovipositional preferences. The materials tested in this study were the varieties and or/lines of rice mostly proposed by the International Insect Resistance Nursery of IRRI and some others also orginiated from IRRI. Out of the 48 varieties and or/lines the 9 were selected as resistant and the 11 as mderately resistant. They have high antibiosis to the insects, showing significantly higher nymphal mortality and less adult emergence in the resistant and moderately resistant ones than the susceptible and moderately susceptible varieties Jinheung and Tong-il. Feeding perference was significantly different between the resistant and susceptible rice plants, resulting in much lower on resistant ones and much higher on susceptible ones. Ovipositional preference, however, was not different at all between the resistant and the susceptible ones. The nature of varietal resistance of rice to the green rice leafhopper seemed to be surely associated with the antibiosis and non-feeding preference.
An analysis on landslide types and susceptibilities associated with geomorphic characteristics has been conducted with 916 landslide inventories in Yeonchon-Chulwon District, where two day's heavy rainfall was concentrated on July, 1996. The precipitation during the 2 days, which is equivalent to 0.372 of event cofficient, can cause large landslides based on Olivier's equation. Sliding materials are dominantly composed of debris mixed with rock fragments and soil derived from colluvium and residual soils. 66% of the landslides are belong to debris flow md 23% are due to sediments flow, in accordance with the classification of sliding materials. Most of landslides(> 90%) are small and shallow, less than l00m in length and about 1m in depth, and classified as transitional type. Granite is more susceptible as much as 4.7 times than metamorphic rocks and 2.7 times than volcanic rocks, probably due to higher weathering grade of granite. The highest landslide frequency is concentrated on the areas between 200 and 300m in height and on the slopes between $10-20^{\circ}$ in dgree. More than 50% of landslides occurred under these geomorphic conditions. Consequently, colluviums and residual soils distributed on the gentle slopes are most susceptible to the landslides of the area.

This study was carried out to investigate changes in the compositions of fatty acids according to the different drying methods of raw mugwort. Raw mugwort from Kang-wha was dried with four methods such as sun-drying, shady sun-drying, heated oven-drying and freeze-drying. Total contents and fatty acid compositions of the ethyl ether extracts from the dried mugworts were examined. Total contents of the ethyl ether extracts showed remarkable differences with drying methods; freeze-dried mugwort had the highest content (5.60%), while oven dried mugwort revealed the lowest content (2.45%). Eleven fatty acids and four unknown peaks were identified by gas-liquid chromatography; major fatty acids were linoleic acid, linolenic acid and palmitic acid. Fatty acids of mugworts dried by 4 different methods were the same in kinds, but different in their compositions. The content of polyunsaturated fatty acids $(C_{18:2}+C_{18:3})$ was the highest and the loss of low volatile fatty acids was the least in mugwort dried by the freeze-drying method. The volatile fatty acids considerably decreased in oven-dried mugwort. However, the contents of polyunsaturated fatty acids were a little higher in oven-dried mugwort than in sun-dried and shady sun-dried mugwort, and the lowest in sun-dried mugwort.
This study was carried out to investigate the optimum ionic strength of nutrient solution were treated with a quarter, a half, three quarters, standard, one and half, and double ionic strength of balanced nutrient solution of Yamazaki solution recommended for cucumber plants. Plant height and number of loaves of growing period were rapidly increased in 1/2 ionic strength of nutrient solution. Growth characteristics of cucumber plant as affected by the different ionic strength of nutrient solution were not significant differences, however, in the growing period, plant height, stem length and leaf area were highest in 1/2 ionic strength of nutrient solution. Fruit yield of cucumber plant as affected by the different ionic strength of nutrient solution was not significant differences, however, fruit yield was highest in 1/2 ionic strength of the lowering ionic strength of nutrient solution. Nitrogen concentration was not significant differences, however, it was high corcentration in 1/2 ionic strength of nutrient solution. Growth and yield characteristic of cucumber as affected by 1/2 ionic strength of nutrient solution at 36 days transplanting analyzed correlation cofficient. Plant height showed positive correlated with number of plant and positive correlated with yield.
Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI) is developing a Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite I(KOMPSAT-I) which accommodates Electro-Optical Camera(EOC), Ocean Color Imager(OCI), Space Physics Sensor(SPS) for cartography, ocean color monitoring, and space environment monitoring respectively. The satellite has the weight of about 500 kg and is operated on the sun synchronized orbit with the altitude of 685km, the orbit period of 98 minutes, and the orbit revisit time of 28days. The satellite will be launched in the third quarter of 1999 and its lifetime is more than 3 years. EOC has cartography mission to provide images for the production of scale maps, including digital elevation models, of Korea from a remote earth view in the KOMPSAT orbit. EOC collects panchromatic imagery with the ground sample distance(GSD) of 6.6m and the swath width of 15km at nadir through the visible spectral band of 510-730 nm. EOC scans the ground track of 800km per orbit by push-broom and body pointed method. OCI mission is worldwide ocean color monitoring for the study of biological oceanography. OCI is a multispectral imager generating 6 color ocean images with and <1km GSD by whisk-broom scanning method. OCI is designed to provide on-orbit spectral band selectability in the spectral range from 400nm to 900nm. The color images are collected through 6 primary spectral bands centered at 443, 490, 510, 555, 670, 865nm or 6 spectral bands selected in the spectral range via ground commands after launch. SPS consists of High Energy Particle Detector(HEPD) and Ionosphere Measurement Sensor(IMS). HEPD has mission to characterize the low altitude high energy particle environment and to study the effects of radiation environment on microelectronics. IMS measures densities and temperature of electrons in the ionosphere and monitors the ionospheric irregularities in KOMPSAT orbit.

This study investigates the characteristics of the GAC adsorption behavior during the operation of a multi-stage cross-flow filtration and GAC adsorption process for the purpose of devising an advanced treatment of combined sewer overflows (CSOs) and evaluates the regeneration efficiency of spent GAC that has reached the design breakpoint. During the filtration process, suspended substances are easily removed, but dissolved organic substances are not removed, necessitating a process capable of removing dissolved organic substances for the advanced treatment of CSOs. In general, GAC adsorption has been applied under low-concentration organic conditions, such as for water purification and tertiary treatments of sewage, and has rarely been applied under conditions with high organic concentrations, such as with sewage or CSOs. Accordingly, this study will provide a new and interesting experience. Also in this study, the continuous operation and breakthrough characteristics of GAC according to the strength of the inflow organic matter were investigated, electrochemical regeneration was applied to the used GAC, and the regeneration efficiency was evaluated through desorption and re-adsorption tests. The results showed that the breakthrough period was 21 days under high concentration conditions, 28 days at medium concentrations, and 32 days under low concentration conditions. The desorption of adsorbed organic matter through electrolysis occurred in the range of 188 to 609 mgCOD/L depending on the electrolysis conditions, and the effect of the electrolyte type led to the finding that NaOH was slightly higher than H2O2.

The topographical rolling distribution characteristics of 10 geological areas in Gyeongsangbuk-do are analyzed using GIS. PEs, PEgrgn, Pp2, Kav·Kiv, and Khgr regions occupy the more than 60% that are a steep slope-a high elevation and a steep slope-a middle elevation region, and form high moutains in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Meanwhile, Ke1-9 and Te1-2 regions take possession of the more than 70% that are a low elevation region. Ke1-9 region form landward flatlands and hills around Nakdong river and tributaries of Nakdong river in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Then, Te1-2 region form coastal lowlands adjacent the East sea in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Also, Jgr region take possession of the more than 70% that are a middle elevation region, and form low moutains or flatlands in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Finally, Ols1 region take possession of the more than 50% that are a steep slope region, and form landward moutains in Gyeongsangbuk-do.
