  • Non-invasive technologies in skin research have enabled to use a live image of living skin without a biopsy or histologic processing of tissue. Confocal scanning laser microscope (CSLM) operated at a near-infrared wavelength of 830 nm allows visualization of inner structure of skin as a non-invasive manner. According to previous researches using CSLM, melanin cap and papillary ring were clearly observed in pigmented areas between stratum basale and papillary dermis. In this study, conversional analysis of CSLM digital images into numerical estimation using scanning probe image processor (SPIP) software was attempted for the first time. It is concluded that a quantification of CSLM images can pave way to expand the field of applications of CSLM.

  • This study was conducted to develop items for evaluating the level of the digitization of libraries. For this purpose, it analyzed the literature related to the digital library, underwent a convergence process of 10 experts, and finally derived an axis of 13 different dimensions comparing the digitization of libraries. The axis is composed of acquisitions, collections (physical and online collections), classification and cataloging, circulation service, reference, user service, SNS service, the library's organization and staff, device providing service, next-generation service, and status of our library. This study conducted a survey of librarians to secure the validation of the primarily derived evaluation items regarding libraries' digitization. As a result, the average rating of the traditional evaluation items was 3.82, and the average rating of the digital evaluation items was 4.08. Therefore, it can be said that the results of this research to evaluate the digitized level of libraries have a certain degree of validity.

  • The purpose of this study is to apply the evidence-based library and information practice(EBLIP) in Korean librarianship with analysis of concepts and research method on EBLIP. EBLIP seeks to improve library practice by utilising the best available evidence in conjunction with a pragmatic perspective developed from working experiences in librarianship. The EBLIP focused on the medicine library, however, it is spread to academic, special, school library. EBLIP process can be described through its five stage: formulate a question, find evidence, critically appraise the evidence, apply results of appraisal, evaluate change, redefine problem. It provides a standardized methodology of systematic review, which is a best evidence in EBLIP and is a new mixed research method.

  • This study aims to compare the retention efficiency of library materials of Automated Storage and Retrieval System(AS/RS) revealed by the literature review to other types of book stacks. Domestic and foreign academic libraries adopted AS/RS as part of a plan to improve the retention efficiency. Literature review reveals that in general, AS/RS is better in the retention efficiency in compare to other types of book stacks. This study compared the amount of library materials stored by the AS/RS of S University Library to the general book stack and the fixed-type and the mobile rack-type of virtual book stacks. The study reveals that AS/RS is up to 6 times more efficient than general book stacks, up to 3.61 times more efficient than fixed-type book stacks and up to 1.45 times more efficient than mobile rack-type book stacks. However, the study claims that the retention efficiency of library materials of AS/RS is lower than what is known.
