Logical operation tracking using optical flow and improvement of gradient operation speed (옵티컬 플로우를 이용한 논리연산 트래킹과 그레디언트 연산속도 개선)

  • In this paper, we have improved the speed of gradient operation, which needs to calculate Optical Flow for estimating a moving object, and proposed a method which estimate the contour of a moving object by the logical operationg of Optical Flow and edge in noisy images. The proposed method, which recognize to a moving ogject and traking a moving object, using logical operation of Optical Flow and edge in low-level has a advantage that is simpler than the known method for moving objects estimation. In addition, we have simulated several images using method I and method II on improved Gradient operation speed. When we have compared the average value of total operation time, method I is improved with 12% of operation speed compared with the known method, method II is improved with 38% operation speed.

Stereo 3 mm Millimeter Wave Imaging for Distance Estimation to Concealed Objects (스테레오 3mm 밀리미터파 영상을 이용한 은닉물체의 거리추정에 관한 연구)

  • Passive millimeter wave (MMW) imaging penetrates clothing to detect concealed objects. The distances extraction to the concealed objects is critical for the security and defense. In this paper, we address a passive stereo 3 mm MMW imaging system to extract the longitudinal distance to the concealed object. The concealed object area is segmented and extracted by the k-means clustering algorithm with splitting initialization. The distance to the concealed object is estimated by the corresponding centers of the segmented objects. In the experimental two pairs (each pair for horizontal and vertical polarization) of stereo MMW images are obtained to estimate distances to concealed objects.

  • 본 논문에서는 시간 선택성 다중경로 이동 무선 채널을 다양한 방법으로 모델링 하고 그에 따른 여러 가지 특성평가를 제시하였다. 모델링 방법에는 Jakes 방식과 시간 영역에서 독립적인 두 개의 가우시안 잡음 발생기와 정형필터(shaping filter)를 사용하는 방식 및 주파수 영역에서 필터링 하는 방식이 있다. 이 세 가지 모델링 방법의 성능을 진폭의 자기상관함수, 상호상관함수, 누적분포함수(Cumulative Distribution Function), 레벨 교차율(Level Crossing Rate), 평균 페이딩 지속 시간(Average Duration of Fades), 위상차의 확률 밀도, 위상차의 자기상관함수 등의 측면에서 시뮬레이션하고 그 결과치와 이론치 간의 특성 비교를 제시하였다. 특히, 확산 대역 시스템을 고려했을 때 이상적인 채널 추정을 가정한 레이크 수신기에서의 BER 성능을 다중경로 개수에 따라 보임으로써 여러 가지 채널 모델링 중에서 주파수 영역에서 필터링 하는 방식이 이동 무선 채널을 모델링 하는데 있어 가장 적합하다는 것을 보였다. 마지막으로 비대칭 도플러(Doppler) 스펙트럼을 모델링 하는 것도 주파수 영역에서 필터링 하는 방식이 편리하다.

  • Recently, various research for intelligent video surveillance system have been proposed, but the existing monitoring systems are inefficient because all of situational awareness is judged by the human. In this paper, shadow removal based moving object tracking method is proposed using the chromaticity and entropy image. The background subtraction model, effective in the context awareness environment, has been applied for moving object detection. After detecting the region of moving object, the shadow candidate region has been estimated and removed by RGB based chromaticity and minimum cross entropy images. For the validity of the proposed method, the highway video is used to experiment. Some experiments are conducted so as to verify the proposed method, and as a result, shadow removal and moving object tracking are well performed.

  • The speech quality of multi-party audio telephony between two, three or more participants is decreased by audio volume imbalance, audio volume saturation and noise level increase. To solve this issue, this paper proposes an advanced audio mixing algorithm for software-based multi-point control unit. Our approach is based on the combined voice activity detection and gain control technique that consists of a set of algorithms that classify audio signals, estimate audio volumes, adjust gain factors and mix audio signals of all channels. The proposed audio mixing algorithm is computationally efficient, delivers high-quality speech, and is suitable for use in any practical multi-party audio telephony.

Real-time passive millimeter wave image segmentation for concealed object detection (은닉 물체 검출을 위한 실시간 수동형 밀리미터파 영상 분할)

  • Millimeter wave (MMW) readily penetrates fabrics, thus it can be used to detect objects concealed under clothing. A passive MMW imaging system can operate as a stand-off type sensor that scans people in both indoors and outdoors. However, because of the diffraction limit and low signal level, the imaging system often suffers from low image quality. Therefore, suitable statistical analysis and computational processing would be required for automatic analysis of the images. In this paper, a real-time concealed object detection is addressed by means of the multi-level segmentation. The histogram of the image is modeled with a Gaussian mixture distribution, and hidden object areas are segmented by a multi-level scheme involving $k$-means, the expectation-maximization algorithm, and a decision rule. The complete algorithm has been implemented in C++ environments on a standard computer for a real-time process. Experimental and simulation results confirm that the implemented system can achieve the real-time detection of concealed objects.

Self-Adaptive Performance Improvement of Novel SDD Equalization Using Sigmoid Estimate and Threshold Decision-Weighted Error (시그모이드 추정과 임계 판정 가중 오차를 사용한 새로운 SDD 등화의 자기적응 성능 개선)

  • For the self-adaptive equalization of higher-order QAM systems, this paper proposes a new soft decision-directed (SDD) algorithm that opens the eye patterns quickly as well as significantly reducing the error level in the steady-state when it is applied to the initial equalization stage with completely closed eye patterns. The proposed method for M-QAM application minimized the computational complexity of the existing SDD by the symbol estimated based on the two symbols closest to the observation, and greatly simplified the soft decision independently of the QAM order. Furthermore, in the symbol estimating it increased the reliability of the estimates by applying the superior properties of the sigmoid function and avoiding the erroneous estimation of the threshold function. In addition, the initialization performance was improved when an error is generated to update the equalizer, weighting the symbol decision by the threshold function to the error, resulting in an extension of the range of error fluctuations. As a result, the proposed method improves remarkably the computational complexity and the properties of initialization and convergence of the traditional SDD. Through simulations for 64-QAM and 256-QAM under multipath channel conditions with additive noise, the usefulness of the proposed methods was confirmed by comparing the performance of the proposed 2-SDD and two forms of weighted 2-SDD with CMA.

  • This paper presents an efficient pre echo control scheme for MPEG Audio coders based on the psychoacoustic model II (PAM-II). Pre echo control is the final step for the calculation of masking threshold in the PAM II. It is to minimize the spread of quantization error over the processing frame. In the conventional encoders, pre echo is reduced by restricting the estimated masking threshold not to exceed the one obtained in the previous frame. The conventional method performs pre echo control not only for short blocks but also for long blocks, which lowers the masking threshold in long blocks and, in turn, increases the quantization noise level of corresponding blocks. This paper proposes an efficient pre echo control process. The test result shows a mean enhancement of more than 0.4 especially for complex signals on the ITU R 5 point audio impairment scale.

Development of Acquisition and Analysis System of Radar Information for Small Inshore and Coastal Fishing Vessels - Suppression of Radar Clutter by CFAR - (연근해 소형 어선의 레이더 정보 수록 및 해석 시스템 개발 - CFAR에 의한 레이더 잡음 억제 -)

  • This paper describes on the suppression of sea clutter on marine radar display using a cell-averaging CFAR(constant false alarm rate) technique, and on the analysis of radar echo signal data in relation to the estimation of ARPA functions and the detection of the shadow effect in clutter returns. The echo signal was measured using a X -band radar, that is located on the Pukyong National University, with a horizontal beamwidth of $$3.9^{\circ}$$, a vertical beamwidth of $20^{\circ}$, pulsewidth of $0.8 {\mu}s$ and a transmitted peak power of 4 ㎾ The suppression performance of sea clutter was investigated for the probability of false alarm between $l0-^0.25;and; 10^-1.0$. Also the performance of cell averaging CFAR was compared with that of ideal fixed threshold. The motion vectors and trajectory of ships was extracted and the shadow effect in clutter returns was analyzed. The results obtained are summarized as follows;1. The ARPA plotting results and motion vectors for acquired targets extracted by analyzing the echo signal data were displayed on the PC based radar system and the continuous trajectory of ships was tracked in real time. 2. To suppress the sea clutter under noisy environment, a cell averaging CFAR processor having total CFAR window of 47 samples(20+20 reference cells, 3+3 guard cells and the cell under test) was designed. On a particular data set acquired at Suyong Man, Busan, Korea, when the probability of false alarm applied to the designed cell averaging CFAR processor was 10$^{-0}$.75/ the suppression performance of radar clutter was significantly improved. The results obtained suggest that the designed cell averaging CFAR processor was very effective in uniform clutter environments. 3. It is concluded that the cell averaging CF AR may be able to give a considerable improvement in suppression performance of uniform sea clutter compared to the ideal fixed threshold. 4. The effective height of target, that was estimated by analyzing the shadow effect in clutter returns for a number of range bins behind the target as seen from the radar antenna, was approximately 1.2 m and the information for this height can be used to extract the shape parameter of tracked target..
