  • The LFLP (Linear Fresnel Light Pipe) system uses a linear Fresnel lens to follow the sun and concentrates the parallel sunlight into a line. A LFLP daylighting system has been developed and updated to a DBLP (Double Blind Light Pipe) daylighting system to improve the overall system efficiency in the morning and afternoon. The new design consists of a double-blind style with a cone-shaped light transformer. The blinds are used to collect the sun's altitude and azimuth movements through the day. Behind the two sets of blinds is the light transformer, which is based on a parabolic-shaped light concentrator. The light transformer is designed to efficiently deliver light within a thirty-degree radial spread so that the light pipe can internally reflect the light. The results of scale-model tests are encouraging, and the efficiency is three times higher than that of the previous LFLP system.

  • The purpose of this paper was development of modified horizontal daylight duct for reflector of light intake, location of outlet diffuser and size as applicable daylighting system for buildings and, verified applicable possibility base on analysis of daylighting performance through full-scale model test. Experimental result showed that ratio of illumination for light duct was measured 0.3∼0.4% in interior of a room on clear sky. Also, light duct had wide distribution of illumination than duct about 150[cm] and was decided efficient lighting energy saving because of high daylight performance in case of application actual building during daytime.

  • In this study global radiation and global illumination are directly measured and diffuse radiation and diffuse illumination measured utilizing semi-circular shadow ring. By analyzing measured radiation data, clear and overcast sky are classified according to the sky classification method used in Mantes, France. Measured illumination data are analyzed and 1) Clear sky illumination on a horizontal surface as a function of solar altitude. 2) Overcast sky illumination on a horizontal surface as a function of solar altitude, 3) Monthly variation of illumination. 4) Cumulative percentage of illumination, 5) Daylight intensity as a function of hours in a typical day, 6) Average number hours per day of illumination above 10 and 20klx are presented as a climatic data for daylighting design for Seoul, Korea.

  • Appling natural light to the spaces for the exhibition requires the compromises between the expectations of visitors whom are preferable to perceive the details of the works of art, and preservation of light sensitive artworks of least exposure to light. To solve the compromises, it requires a careful planing to control the penetration of the daylight by physical and mechanical devices such as diffusive glasses and blinds. The control of light penetration can also be achieved by providing spaces inside and outside of the building. The aim of this study is suggest the conceptual methods to control the daylight by space design. Museums and galleries using daylight were investigated how the daylight is controlled by the integrated spaces in the exhibition spaces. This study presents nine ways of controlling daylight penetration by space design.
