This paper is concerned with a fracture strength study of composite adhesive lap joints. The tests were carried out on specimen joints manufactured hybrid stacked joints such as the polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. The main objective of the work was to test the fracture strength using hybrid fiber composites with a polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer adjacent to the spew fillet of adhesive bonded joints and hybrid stacked joints. The results are presented using tensile-shear strength graph and finite element analysis. The failure mechanisms are discussed in order to explain that spew fillet at the end of the overlap reduces greatly the adhesive shear and effects the tensile-shear strength in hybrid stacked joints.

A common procedure of restoration of endodonticlly treated tooth with fiber-reinforced post is followed by core build-up after post cementation. However, this technique is complex and time-consuming. The aim of this study was to compare fracture strength of premolar, restored with various methods of core fabrications on fiber-reinforced posts and casting metal restoration. Forty five freshly extracted human mandibular premolars were obtained and devided into 5 groups acconding to the type of post and methods of core build-up. In Group A, D.T. $Light-post^{(R)}$ were cemented with $DUO-LINK^{TM}$ and then $LIGHT-CORE^{TM}$ was used for core restoration. In Group B, D.T. $Light-post^{(R)}$ and $DUO-LINK^{TM}$ were used for cementing in the postspace, and $DUO-LINK^{TM}$ was used again for core restoration. In Group C, $Light-post^{(R)}$ bonding and the core build-up were performed simultaneously by using $DUO-LINK^{TM}$. In Group D, $LuxaPost^{(R)}$ was bonded by using $LuxaCore^{(R)}-Dual$. Again, $LuxaCore^{(R)}-Dual$ was used for core restoration. In Group E, $LuxaPost^{(R)}$ bonding and the core build-up were performed simultaneously by using $LuxaCore^{(R)}-Dual$. Axial reduction was formed parallelly as possible and 45 degree bevel was made at buccal occlusal surface. Crowns were fabricated and cemented. Each tooth was embedded in self-curing acrylic resin to the level of 2mm below the CEJ. Specimens were fixed on universal testing machin such that the axis of the tooth was at 45 degree inclination to the horizontal plane, and compressive force was applied at a crosshead speed of 1mm/min until failure occurred. The mean fracture strength was the highest in group A followed by descending order in group B, D, E and C. However, there were no statistically significant differences between groups with regard to the fracture strength. The type of the post or build-up methods of the core does not seem to influence the fracture strength.

Naturally occurring asbestos (NOA) from disturbance of rocks and soils has been overlooked as a source of exposure that could potentially have a detrimental impact on human health. But, few researches on mineralogical characteristics of NOA occurred in soils have been reported in Korea. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate the mineralogical characteristics of NOA occurred in soils at Daero-ri area, Seosan, Chungnam Province, Korea. Sedimentation method was used for particle size separation of the asbestos-containing soils. XRD and PLM analyses were used to characterize mineralogical characteristics and mineral assemblages in soils. SEM-EDS and TEM-EDS analyses were used to characterize mineral morphology and chemical composition. Particle size analyses of the asbestos-containing soils showed they were composed of 26-93% sand, 4-23% silt and 3-70% clay. Soil texture of the soils was mainly sand, sandy loam, sandy clay, and clay. PLM analyses of the soil showed that most of the soil contained asbestiform tremolite and actinolite. The average content of asbestos in the soil was 1.5 wt. %. Therefore, the soil can be classified into asbestos-contaminated soils based on U. S. Environmental Protection Agency classification (content of asbestos in contaminated soil > 1%). Morphologically different types of tremolite such as long fibrous, needle-like, fiber bundle, bladed and prismatic forms co-existed. Prismatic tremolite was dominant in sand fraction and asbestiform tremolite was dominant in silt fraction. This study indicates that the prismatic form of tremolite transform gradually into a fibrous form of tremolite due to soil weathering because tremolite asbestos was mainly existed in silt fraction rather than sand fraction.

In this study based on the mass transfer theory, experiments for the evaporation rates depending on various conditions were carried out through the operation of the existing Natural Evaporation Facility in KAERI. Evaporation media were made of the cotton and polyester. Air circulation in the facility was forced by exhausting fans. The evaporation rate and the decontamination factor were calculated by the result of experiment. The evaporation rate increased as the flow rate of air supply, the feed rate of liquid waste, and the temperature of supplied air increased. As for the humidity of supplied air, the evaporation rate was getting higher as the humidity was getting lower. As the result of this study, operation conditions of the Natural Evaporation Facility are optimized as follows : The air temperature above $8^{\circ}C$, the air humidity below 70%, the air flow rate 1.14-1.47 m/sec, and the liquid waste feed rate $4.6{\ell}/hr\cdotm^2$. The decontamination factor and the radioactivity are $5.1{\times}10^3$and $4.7{\times}10^{-13}{\mu}Ci/\textrm{m}{\ell}$ respectively, at the above mentioned optimum operation conditions. The air factor in the Dalton's equation for evaporation was determined from results of experiment on the temperature, the humidity, and the flow rate of supplied air as following : $[\textit{Eh}=(0.018 + 0.0141\textitv) {\delta}textitH]$
A non-traumatic, spontaneous hemothorax is rare. The most common causes are coagulopathy, due to anticoagulation treatment, and cancers with a metastasis to the pleural surface. Other unusual causes include thoracic endometriosis, ruptured aortic aneurysm, pulmonary arterio-venous malformation, coagulopathy, Osler-Rendeu-Weber syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome et cetera. A type 1 neurofibromatosis(Von Recklinghausen's disease) is an autosomal dominant disease that is characterized by multiple skin tumors(neurofibroma) and abnormal skin pigmentation(caf$\acute{e}$-au-lait spots). Some are accompanied by vasculopathy, and are present with a spontaneous hemothorax. Such cases are unusual but fatal. We have recently experienced a case where a young male patient with neurofibromatosis initially presented with hypovolemic shock due to a spontaneous hemothorax. Later, aortography revealed that the cause of the hemothorax was a rupture of a pseudoaneurysm of the right internal mammary artery and as a result, an embolization was performed. Here we report this case with a review of the appropriate literature.
With a striking increase in the level of contamination and subsequent degradations in the environment, detection and monitoring of contaminants in various sites has become a crucial mission in current society. In this review, we have summarized the current research areas in membrane-based colorimetric sensors for trace detection of various molecules. The researches covered in this summary utilize membranes composed of cellulose fibers as sensing platforms and metal nanoparticles or fluorophores as optical reagents. Displaying decent or excellent sensitivity, most of the developed sensors achieve a significant selectivity in the presence of interfering ions. The physical and chemical properties of cellulose membrane platforms can be customized by changing the synthesis method or type of optical reagent used, allowing a wide range of applications possible. Membrane-based sensors are also portable and have great mechanical properties, which enable on-site detection of contaminants. With such superior qualities, membrane-based sensors examined in the researches were used for versatile purposes including quantification of heavy metals in drinking water, trace detection of toxic antibiotics and heavy metals in environmental water samples. Some of the sensors exhibited additional features like antimicrobial ability and recyclability. Lastly, while most of the sensors aimed for a detection enabled by naked eyes through rapid colour change, many of them investigated further detection methods like fluorescence, UV-vis spectroscopy, and RGB colour intensity.
Mediastinal fibrosis is pathologically characterized by chronic inflammation and fibrosis of mediastinal soft tissue. Mediastinal fibrosis is local expression of a family of systemic fibrosing syndroms. This can result in compression of adjacent mediastinal structures. Idiopathic fibrosing syndromes include retroperitoneal fibrosis, sclerosing cholangitis of the orbit and fibrosis of the thyroid gland(Riedel's struma). The cause of these disorders is obscure, in some instance there is an underlying malignancy, infection, history of drug ingestion, or trauma with retroperitoneal bleeding. Treatment of mediastinal fibrosis depends on structures involved by the fibrotic process. The disease is self limited in most case or improved by steroids uses. We experienced a case of idopathic sclerosing mediastinitis with orbital fibrous dysplasia of unknowm cause, which was confirmed by open lung biopsy, so reported it with a review of literature.
To answer the question whether last clonogenic cell should be eradicated for the tumor to be controlled, radiation tumor control study was performed using microscopic tumors of variable sizes ranging from 101 to 10s tumor cells. $TCD_{50}'s$ estimated from experimental data were 14.8, 27. 1, 42.4, 49.9 and 65.5 Gy for $10^1,\;10^2,\;10^3,\;10^4\;and\;10^4$ tumor cells, respectively. Theoretical calculations, assuming that all the clonogenic cells should be inactivated, were 15.65, 8.50, 40.97, 53.41 and 65.85 Gy. From this well matched data, it can be concluded that all the clonogenic cells should be eradicated for tumor control, at least in this tumor model.
Low oxygen treatment and heating treatment are used to prevent insects in the field of food science. These eco-friendly control methods can be applied to biological control technique in conservation treatment of organic cultural properties. To evaluate material stability, low-oxygen treatment and low oxygen treatment are applied to wood, pigment, paper and textile that are related to historical wooden buildings. As a result, wood moisture content declined after low oxygen treatment. But decline rate is a little, so it can be expected to turn back original state as time passes. And test result on pigment, paper, textile of chrominance and strength of test materials are stable. But after heating treatment, pigments are separated.
