Pd has the highest magnetic susceptibility among single element metals and often shows ferromagnetism under some special environments. In this paper, we report magnetism of 5- and 9-monolayers (ML) calculated by using full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method. Exchange-correlation interaction is taken into account in local density approximation (LDA) and generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and calculational results in LDA and GGA are compared with each other. It is found that calculations by LDA are more reliable compared to those by GGA because LDA prediction of paramagnetism of bulk Pd is consistent with experiments, whereas GGA predicts wrongly ferromagnetim of bulk Pd. Calculational results in LDA on a 5-ML Pd(111) thin film shows a ferromagnetic ground state unlike a paramagnetic ground state of bulk Pd. The center Pd layer of the 5-ML Pd(111) thin film has the largest magnetic moment ($0.273{\mu}_B$) among the layers and |m| = 1 orbital states play a dominant role in stabilizing the ferromagnetism of the 5-ML Pd(111) thin film. A 9-ML Pd(111) thin film in a ferromagnetic state has almost the same total energy as in a paramagnetic state. Since the magnetization of the 9-ML Pd(111) thin film is stable, the ferromagnetic state may be meta-stable.
We have studied electronic and magnetic structure of 2 kinds of diiron molecules using OpenMX method based on density functional method. The calculated density of states of diiron-2 is similar with that of diiron-4 because of equal number of 6 ligand atoms. The calculated total energy with antiferromagnetic spin configuration is lower than those of ferromagnetic configurations for both of them. The exchange interaction J of diiiron-4 between $Fe^{+3}$ atoms is one order larger than that of diiron-2, and the calculated J matches well with the experimental one. That comes from the short distance of Fe-O and the high O 2p energy levels. It derives a strong super exchange interaction. The angle of diiron-4 between Fe atoms is bigger than that of diiron-2. It also derives a strong super exchange interaction because of the ${\sigma}$-bond between Fe and O atoms.
Magnetism of molecular nanomagnet, which attracted a lot of academic attention after the discovery of the macroscopic quantum tunneling of magnetism, is reviewed. Molecular nanomagnet is metal-organic material in which magnetic ions are regularly located in the organic skeleton. Also, the interaction between the molecules is very small and those molecules form macroscopic molecular crystal in which molecules are residing at the element points in the crystal. Molecular nanomagnets show a lot of interesting features, especially, equivalence of macroscopic magnetic properties and molecular magnetic properties. In this paper, research results on molecular nanomagnet with microscopic tool like NMR are reviewed mainly. The new method to observe the quantum tunneling of magnetization discovered in Mnl2-ac with NMR is shown and the research results on the microscopic aspects of the macroscopic quantum tunneling of magnetization using the new method are shown. Also, the physical aspect of the level crossing effect which has been reported originally with NMR in molecular nanomagnet is reviewed with experiment results. The research results on the molecular nanomagnets will reveal the important information about the limit of the miniaturization of magnetic memory units and give us the basic scientific knowledge which is needed for the application for the quantum computation. Moreover, academically, many quantum mechanical theories which have not been checked the validity can be checked with experiments.
Apparent molal volumes of urea, 1,3-dimethylurea (DMU), and 1,1,3,3-tetramethylurea(TMU) in dimethylsulfoxide(DMSO) and in methanol have been measured at low concentration by the density measurements at $25^{\circ}C$. It is confirmed that urea molecules in the dilute DMSO solution self-associate to a greater extent than in the concentrated solution, while DMU and TMU molecules in DMSO solutions interact with the solvent molecules. In addition, the molecules of the three solutes also interact predominatingly with methanol molecules.

In this study the mechanisms of magnetization reversal and magnetic interaction effects on activation volumes for Sr-ferrite with different particle sizes are investigated. The activation volumes of C2 sample are larger than those of C3 sample in the range of low magnetic fields. But the fields above the coercivity of sample C2, the activation volumes of both samples are decreased linearly with increasing the applied magnetic field. These phenomena can be explained by the strengths of two critical fields representing the reverse domain nucleation field and the domain wall pinning field as well as the strength of dipolar interaction.
For CoZr/Ag/CoCr trilayered films deposited by DC and FR magnetron sputtering method, ferromagentic resonance experiments have been used to investigate the dependence of the exchange coupling between CoZr and CoCr layers separated by Ag layer on the thickness of the Ag layer. The coupling strength K increases with increasing Ag thickness up to 10 $\AA$ with a maximum value of 748 Oe, but oscillates with increasing Ag thickness in the range from 20 to 100 $\AA$. The coupling strength is positive for all samples. Hence, it seems that the exchange coupling between CoZr and CoCr layers separated by Ag layer is ferromagnetic.
[ $FeCr_2Se_4$ ] prepared under the high pressure (3 GPa) has been studied with x-ray, neutron diffraction techniques, superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer, resistance, and Mossbauer spectroscopy. The temperature dependence of resistance is explained by Mott-VRH and small polaron model for the regions I (T<20 K) and II (T>42 K), respectively. Neutron diffraction results show an antiferromagnetic spin-lattice coupling near the Neel temperature. So finally the distance of atom is enlarged in region (110$FeCr_2Se_4$ shows convex type of temperature dependence.
Experimentally it is well known that the magnetic properties significantly deteriorate when nanocomposite bonded magnet are made from nanocomposite ribbon. A decrease in maximum energy product of F $e_3$B+N $d_2$F $e_{14}$B nanocomposite from 14 MGOe in nanocomposite ribbon to 6.5 MGOe in powder compact was fecund to be general. Thus, the present study is focused on finding out the root of exchange decoupling of N $d_4$F $e_{73.5}$$Co_3$H $f_{0.5}$G $a_{0.5}$$B_{18.5}$ nanocomposite powder compacts. The exchange decoupling behavior of the powder compact of F $e_3$B+N $d_2$F $e_{14}$B composition was studied by measuring DC demagnetization and isothermal remanent demagnetization curves, which are essential for plotting produced $\delta$M curve. From the $\delta$M plot the deterioration in the magnetic properties resulted from the fact that the magnetostatic interaction became dominant rather thanthe exchange interaction in powder compact. It is concluded that the demagnetization behavior governed by the dominant magnetostatic interaction reduced the remanence magnetization, which caused the reduction of maximum energy Product of the powder compact. We also found that the elimination of residual stress which is unavoidably accumulated during grinding process enhanced the magnetic properties considerably.bly.bly.
Nano-sized Ba-ferrite, Ni-Zn ferrite and $BaFe_{12}O_{19}/Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ nanocomposite ferrite were prepared by sol-gel combustion method. Nanocomposite was calcined at temperature range of $600{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. According to the diffraction patterns, hard/soft nanocomposite was indicated to the coexistence of the magnetoplumbite structural $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ and spinel $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ and agree with the standard data (JCPDS 10-0325). The particle size of nanocomposite turn out to be less than 90 nm. The nanocomposite ferrite shows a single-phase magnetization behavior, implying that the hard magnetic phase and soft magnetic phase were well exchange-coupled. The specific saturation magnetization ($M_s$) of the nanocomposite is located between hard ($BaFe_{12}O_{19}$) and soft ferrite ($Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$). The remanence (Mr) of nanocomposite ferrite is much higher than that for the individual $BaFe_{12}O_{19}$ and $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite. $(BH)_{max}$ is increased, generally.
