  • The polishing tool unit is developed which can be attached on the machining center and automatic polishing system for die and mold is also established. So, experiments are carried out under the several polishing conditions. The polishing properties of automatic polishing operation such as surface roughness, stock removal and maximum profile valley depth are obtained and analyzed quantitatively for each polishing tool. The purpose of this study is to construct an expert system for optimal condition of die and mold automatic polishing using the knowledge base that is obtained in the polishing experiments and, to verify the feasibility of the expert system through the experiments. Using this expert system, unskilled operators will be able to obtain the knowledge and experience of an expert.

  • The present study deals design and manufacture of automatic polishing machine that can cut diamond to have 58 facets in a brilliant cutting which has been hardly achieved by a conventional manually operating polishing machine. Upon the 3-dimensional Sarin M/C test and analysis on the diamond processed by the automatic polishing machine developed in this study its proportion and finishing turned out to be better than the diamond processed by the conventional method, by being rated as 'very good'.

자동차용 마찰재의 연마재가 마찰특성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Abrasive Particles on the Frictional Properties of Automotive Brake Friction Materials)

  • The frictional properties of automotive brake pads with four different ceramic materials such as magnesia, hematite, alumina, and zircon were investigated. A Krauss type friction tester using gray iron disks was used to examine the friction coefficient, intensity of friction force oscillation, and the tribe-surfaces. Results showed that the friction coefficient increased as the hardness of abrasives increases. Friction oscillation was also increased with hardness of the abrasives. However, the friction materials containing less abrasive particles produced stable friction films on the sliding surface. The transition between two-body and three body abrasion during sliding also played a crucial role in destructing the friction film on the pad surface and in determining various frictional properties.

치과용 자동바렐연마기의 연마시간에 따른 3종 레진의 표면거칠기 관찰 (Observation of surface roughness on three types of resin based on grinding time of dental automatic barrel finishing)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to produce resin prosthetics using a dental automatic barrel finishing. Surface roughness and surface topography of resins were observed according to the grinding time of the dental automatic barrel finishing. Methods: This study was performed with thermopolymer, autopolymer, and photopolymer resins. The dimensions of the specimen were 10×10×2 mm. Each specimen was polymerized according to the manufacturer's instructions. The polymerized resin was honed for 30 minutes at 5-min intervals in a dental automatic barrel finishing. The specimen was observed using a three-dimensional (3D) optical microscope, and the surface roughness was measured. Results: After the polishing with the dental automatic barrel finishing, the heat-cured (HC) specimen showed the highest and lowest values of Ra after 10 and 15 minutes, respectively. The self-cured (SC) specimen showed the highest and lowest values of Ra after 10 and 25 minutes, respectively. Finally, the 3D specimen showed the highest and lowest values of Ra after 5 and 20 minutes, respectively. Conclusion: After measuring the surface roughness of the three types of resins according to the grinding time of the dental automatic barrel finishing, the lowest Ra values for the HC, SC, and 3D specimens were measured after 15, 25, and 20 minutes, respectively. Therefore, we concluded that a limit on the grinding time of the resin using a dental automatic barrel finishing is needed.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to confirm the applicability of gloss polishing using automatic barrel finishing with respect to three-dimensional (3D)-printed resin specimens. The surface roughness and grinding angle of the 3D-printed resin specimens were observed with respect to gloss polishing time using automatic dental barrel finishing. Methods: Herein, experiments were conducted on four types of 3D-printed resin specimens. The specimens, with a thickness of 100 ㎛ each, were printed using a 3D printer. Subsequently, light polymerization was performed on these specimens for 15 min. Post this surface treatment, the specimens underwent grinding for 25 min. This process was followed by gloss polishing at 5-min intervals for up to 25 min using automatic dental barrel finishing. The specimens were photographed using a 3D optical microscope, and their surface roughness and grinding angle were measured. Results: The Ra (centerline average roughness) values of all the specimens, except for crown & bridge 10 group and those in the control group that were not polished using automatic barrel finishing, were <0.2 ㎛. However, polishing time needs to be controlled to realize the desired surface roughness and grinding amount considering the hardness of the resin used. Conclusion: Gloss polishing of 3D-printed resin can be realized using automatic dental barrel finishing. However, polishing time needs to be controlled to realize the desired surface roughness and grinding amount considering the hardness of the resin used.

자동 연마 시스템의 사용자 지향형 통합 프로그램 및 자동 교시 시스템 개발 (Development of An User-Friendly Integrated Program and Teaching System for Automatic Polishing Robot System)

  • Polishing a die that has free-form surfaces is a time-consuming and tedious job, and requires a considerable amount of high-precision skill. Some workers tend to gradually avoid the polishing work because of the poor environment caused by dust and noise. In order to reduce the polishing time and cope with the shortage of skilled workers, a user-friendly automatic polishing system was developed in this research. The polishing system with five degrees of freedom is able to keep the polishing tool normal to the die surface. The polishing system is controlled by a PC-NC controller. To easily operate the developed polishing robot system, this study developed an integrated program in the Windows environment. This program consists of four modules: the polishing module, the graphic simulator, the polishing data generation module, and the teaching module. Also, the automatic teaching system was developed to easily obtain teaching data and it consists of a three dimensional joystick and a proximity sensor. The joystick is used to simultaneously drive the polishing system to an arbitrary orientation and the proximity sensor is used to obtain teaching points precisely. Also, to evaluate the stability of the driving program and the teaching system, polishing experiments of a die of saddle shape were carried out.

  • Friction materials with four different sizes of zircon - l${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 75${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 140${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$- were investigated to evaluate the size effects of abrasive particles used in the automotive brake pads on brake performance. Although the brake pads with the largest size of zircon showed a good frictional stability and low wear, rotors were severely abraded due to the aggressiveness of coarse Bircon. As the siBe of zircon decreased. friction force and the amplitude of friction coefficient increased. Considering the above results, abrasive materials were thought to destroy transfer film and the extent of the destruction depends on the size of zircon. The small size zircon was not effective in developing a transfer layer on the rotor surface while minimizing the damage on the counter surface.

개량형 점하중강도시험기의 개발 (Development of an Improved Point Load Apparatus)

  • 기존의 점하중시험기는 재하점간 중심축의 일치성에서 문제가 발생하는 경우가 존재하며 압력게이지를 통해서 시료에 가해지는 하중을 산정하기 때문에 정확성이 결여될 수 있는 단점이 있다. 본 연구는 원추판을 저항판과 함께 밀어 올리는 방식을 사용하고 지지 연마봉에 선형베어링을 장착하여 연속적으로 반복되는 시험에도 재하점의 축간 편심오차를 0.1 mm 이하로 유지한 개량형 점하중시험기를 개발하였다. 또한 반복되는 시험에서 재하점간의 거리를 자동으로 측정하고 편심오차를 확인하기 위하여 두 개의 디지털게이지를 부착하였다. 상부 원추판 끝단에 장착한 로드셀은 시료에 가해지는 순수 하중을 측정하여 압력계 방식인 기존의 점하중시험기가 가지는 단점을 보완하였다. 개발된 개량형 점하중시험기는 화성암, 편마암, 셰일에서 선택된 표준 코어시료에 대하여 총 107회의 점하중강도시험을 수행하고 품질과 성능이 검증되었다.

실리콘웨이퍼 평탄도 추정 알고리즘을 위한 디지털 컨덴츠에 관한 연구 (A study on the Digital contents for Estimated Thickness Algorithm of Silicon wafer)

  • 반도체 집적회로를 만드는 토대가 되는 실리콘 웨이퍼의 표면은 고품질 회로를 구성하기 위해 극도의 평탄도가 요구되므로 평탄도는 양질의 웨이퍼를 보증하는 가장 중요한 요소이다. 따라서 실리콘웨이퍼 생산의 10개의 공정 중 거칠어진 웨이퍼 표면을 고도의 평탄도를 갖도록 연마하는 폴리싱공정은 매우 중요시 되는 생산라인이다. 현재 이 공정에서는 담당 엔지니어가 웨이퍼의 모형을 측정장비의 모니터에서 육안으로 관찰하여 판단하고 평탄도를 높이기 위한 제어를 하고 있다. 그러나 사람에 의한 것이므로 많은 경험이 필요하고 일일이 체크해야하는 번거로움이 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 비효율적인 작업의 효율화를 위해 웨이퍼의 모형을 디지털 컨텐츠화하여 폴리싱 공정에 있어 평탄도를 사람이 아닌 시스템에 의해 자동으로 측정하여 제어하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 또한 제안한 전체 웨이퍼 평탄도 추정알고리즘을 토대로 실제 현장에서 쓰이는 웨이퍼 각 사이트별 평탄도를 측정하기 위한 사이트두께 추정 알고리즘을 제안한다.
