  • Until the early part of the 1990s, interior design has never been thought important by car makers. Repeated attempts have been made to systemize a technical structure, such as layout, driving method, and size, and the car's interior design has been developed by in simple comparison with the exterior design. In the 1990s, however, this trend began to change because consumers began spending more time in their cars, so the motive of the technology development became that of giving comfort and functional satisfaction to the customers. Observing how a person spends inside his or her car and considering the latest trends in car interiors have made a consumer-oriented sense of value i.e., intensifying the personality of the car's interior design and considering the emotional makeup of the consumer factor in the acquisition of a strategic brand identity. These days, car interiors assume a new concept every year due to the constant change in various factors, and the application of a high-tech design, with a sensing function and a navigation system, to achieve driverless running, is being raised as a key trend element technology for the future. Now, at the present when multilateral concept applications of design are attempted under the direct influences from other fields such as product design, fashion and furniture, I would like to lay stress on investigating and analysing the changes in car interior design varying with the background of the times and formative characteristics from the object point of view. On this study, I would like to compare the background of the times and flow of car interior design with priority given to crash pad and would like to attempt to present the direction of the future car interior design together with diversifying major technical factors.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out latent needs of users through the difference of information inflow between design major and engineering major reflecting car lifestyle and to complement them. Although those two relationship deepens due to the development of industrialization, collaboration is still a difficult situation. To find out lifestyle of between those two majors, experiments were carried out quantitatively by conducting in-depth interviews and additionally survey were conducted concurrently. The results showd clearly difference in meaning and value of the automobile. This phenomenon is related to identity. The designers expressed themselves by car, and others differed by using their cars as a means of mobility.

  • The era of fully autonomous vehicles which can travel to their destination completely, is expected to arrive in the near future. The automobile industry will face a huge change in the near future. It makes the industry in the midst of a major turning point, since the automobile was born in the late 1800s. It is expected that the fully autonomous vehicle will be defined as a part of a living space beyond the concept of transportation. However, the existing research on the interior design of the fully autonomous vehicle is insufficient. The purpose of this study is to propose a design method of interior space through analyzing in-vehicle activities, which is a fundamental design element that can satisfy user's emotional experience suitable the concept of living space. For this purpose, the consumer's consciousness about the in-vehicle activity of fully autonomous vehicle was investigated. As a result, domestic consumers perceived the needs of in-vehicle activities related to resting, listening and watching activities such as 'sleeping and resting', 'watching TV and movie', 'listening to music' among 'self - centered' activities. Based on the results of the investigation, this study will suggest a design method of interior design of the fully autonomous vehicle. This study is meaningful, because it is a leading research that suggests new ways of designing interior space by analyzing consumer's needs in a quantitative method.

  • The aim of this study is to shed light on the importance of female drivers, study their characteristics and needs, and create automobile designs in accordance with the study. The power of female consumers is greatly increasing in a modern society, To the extent that women became the core consumers. Companies are now turning their attention to female consumers in order to survive the fierce competition in the saturated markets. Moreover, it is becoming imperative for companies to actively develop products and services in female perspectives to meet the diversified needs of consumers. It is forecasted that vigorous research, analysis and understanding of the unique culture of women will be increasingly important now that women are emerging as core consumers. Only the companies that makes such efforts consistently can dominate the market. The automobile industry is not an exception. The world's major automobile companies including Volvo and Ford Motor Co. are keenly focusing on automobile exterior and interior designs for women. Korean companies are also designing cars that cater to women, starting with Lanos and Juliet of Daewoo Motors in 1998, yet specific and systematic research on the subject has not been made. This study aims to emphasize the power of female users, make a research and analysis on their needs and characteristics, and suggest car interior designs that cater to them.

  • In order to satisfy customers' desire that is becoming more diverse, and to create the unique character of a product in the fast changing social structure and living environment, today's designers have to make efforts to provide new ideas continuously. In the twentieth century, the development of design in various aspects could be possible through an epoch-making progress of technology and industrialization, and thus the meaning and style of design has changed differently according to the current of the times. The retro design, which borrows the designs and styles which were popular in the past and recreates the design of modern meaning and concept, is widely applied now and in the spotlight as a latest design trend. This phenomenon of revival style appears as an image that makes us recollect the past in various fields while being recognized as an another value of new sense. Considered from the history of style changes for the past 100 years, the automobile design, the most representative in product design fields, has gradually changed in its types according to continuous historical, social, and cultural changes and technological progress, while a variety of designs have been continuously presented. The recent current of automobile styles, according to the rapid progress of advanced scientific technology, shows the fast and various changes and the retro style is becoming a new trend arousing people's interests and reintroducing the past designs. The revival trend in automobile designs is expected to stimulate human sensitivity and restore humanity on a different level before the trend, and also expected to be recreated as a new design trend in modern sense, connecting us with the past culture and expanding the realms of future designs.

  • 자동차/선박/정보통신기기 등의 각종 제조 산업 분야에서 신제품 개발기간과 비용단축을 위해 제품의 설계/스타일링 단계에서 디자인 및 사용자 사용성/편이성 등에 대해 가상으로 품평하는 기술에 대한 관심이 날로 증가하고 있다. 이상적인 가상 품평 기술은 사용자가 실물에 대한 품평 상황과 동일한 체험을 얻을 수 있도록 해야 한다. 이를 위해서 품평 대상물을 사실적으로 표현할 수 있도록 하는 실사 수준의 고품질 가시화 기술과 사용자가 품평 대상물을 자연스럽게 조작할 수 있는 상호작용 기술이 필요하다. 본 연구는 자동차의 내 외관 디자인 품평을 위한 가상 디자인 품평 시스템의 개발에 관한 것으로, 사실적인 자동차 가시화를 위한 환경 반사, 빛 산란, 범프 매핑등의 고품질 쉐이더 구현 및 저작 기술, 몰입환경에서 품평 작업을 위한 3D GUI 지원, 자동차 각 부품의 사용성/편이성 평가를 위한 운동성 조작 기능, 멀티프로젝션 디스플레이 시스템 및 3 차원 인간 모델, 장갑형 입력장치 지원을 통한 몰입형 가상 품평 환경 구축에 관한 기술 및 구현 방법을 제시하고자 한다.
