  • This study is focused on development of generalization processing for 1/25,000 digital mapping using l/5,000 digital map. The generalization processing for digital map included in spatial and attribute information consists of 3 steps. The first, elimination of layer which is not included in 1/25,000 feature code. The second, classification of 8 feature codes. The third, merging of spatial and attribute information. Therefore using generalization workflow developed in this project, automatic generalization system will develope optimal in the future and also contribute product to small scale digital map and thematic map.

  • In the existing digital map of the Ver.1.0, it is impossible to make a small scale digital map, which is under the 1/5000 scale map, by using the 1/1000 digital map which is the most large scale one. Because of this reason, the existing digital maps are produced into a 1/1000 and a 1/5000 map by means of two different scale aerial photos. The next generation digital map should be successively related to a small scale digital map based on the most large scale digital one. This is so important from the aspects of data share and the consecutive renewal. Ever since the development of the digital map of the Ver. 2.0, the possibility of making a multi-scale consecutive digital map has been presented and the related research has been done again. The most basic thing in the multi-scale digital maps is to decide the criteria of the generalization between the two scales. In this study, I try to formulate the criteria of the generalization required to make the 1/5000 digital map by using the 111000 digital one. In addition, I by to explore the application possibility of the consecutive renewal by carrying out auto-generalization.

  • Non-scale digital map have important role in the field of GIS and other application area which using geographical data in recently against conventional map restricted by scale and information. The main objective of this study is to develope the automated map production system for small scale map in conjuction with generalization techniques in a digital environment. We will intend to develope algorithms and programs for each generalization operators based on specific terrain feature with vector data. This study will be performed aspects related to an data model development of generalization process, focussing on priority for processing sequency with maintaining vector topology, and error analysis for generalized digital data.

  • In this paper, we propose the method for automatically transfers images into tactile maps information based on cognition characteristics of visually impaired persons to more easily provide various image information for visually impaired persons. The proposed method automatically classify color images into row complexity and high complexity based on intensity information and transfer images into tactile map information using each different transformation process. Experimental evaluation, We performed with visually impaired five persons experiments for evaluating the recognition and satisfaction that tactile maps of the proposed automatic transforming method and the manually generated tactile maps of braille textbooks. Experimental results, the recognition and satisfaction that the tactile maps of the proposed method generated are very similar to those of the tactile maps of braille textbooks. Therefore, it could hugely be reduced the time and money of production education materials, and it could greatly improved educative results because it can add more easily that many image data of education materials.

Semi-Automatic Feature Extraction Technology From Binary Images (이진영상에서 반자동 선형물 추출 기술)

  • 본 논문에서는 Head-up Digitizing / Vectorizing 기술에 주로 사용되는 이진 영상으로부터 사용자의 초기 입력 좌표를 기준점으로 채택한 후 기준점을 중심으로 선형 및 벡터 형상을 추출하는 반자동 선형 추출 기술 개발에 관해 기술한다. 본 기술의 동작 과정을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 사용자는 이진 영상에서 추출하고자 하는 선형 및 벡터 형상내의 한 좌표를 선택한다. 선택된 좌표는 기준점으로 채택되며, 이 기준점을 중심으로 네 방향으로 영암 값이 0인 픽셀들의 길이 및 orientation이 계산된다. 계산된 orientation을 바탕으로 폭 넓이가 계산되고 초기 좌표가 보정된 후 폭 넓이가 임계값을 만족시키면 동일한 선형물로 간주하여 추출 연산을 반복 수행하고, 폭넓이가 임계값을 벗어나면 새로운 선형물로 간주하고 추출을 중단한다 즉, 채택된 기준값을 중심으로 동일한 명암값의 검색을 진행하여 기준값과 유사한 방향성 및 폭 넓이 정보를 갖는 성분들의 중심 좌표를 선형물 추출 결과값으로 산출하는 기술이다. 본 기술을 통해 수작업으로 진행되던 지도 제작 및 Head-up Digitizing / Vectorizing 기술이 컴퓨터를 이용한 반자동기술로 대체될 수 있으며, 이를 통해 많은 인원과 시간을 소모하여야 했던 좌표 지도제작을 위성 영상을 이용하여 보다 쉽고 저렴한 가격으로 수행할 수 있는 방안을 제시할 수 있다.

Generation of Digital Orthoimage using Direct Georeferencing (외부표정요소 직접결정에 의한 수치정사영상 생성)

  • 최근에는 항측기에 GPS/INS 장비를 탑재하여 사진의 촬영과 동시에 외부표정요소를 직접 결정할 수 있는 Direct Georeferencing 기술의 개발로 인하여 지상기준점측량과 AT과정이 불필요하게 되었다. Direct Georeferencing 기법을 이용하게 되면 외부표정요소를 구하기 위한 전처리 과정을 생략할 수 있다. 따라서 지상기준점을 이용한 사진기 준점측량(AT)을 수행하지 않더라도 수치표고모델만 미리 확보되어 있으면 촬영과 동시에 수치정사사진을 생성할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 촬영과 동시에 GPS/INS에 의해 획득한 외부표정요소와 항공사진을 이용하여 영상매칭에 의하여 수치표고모델(DEM)을 자동 생성하고, 이 결과를 바탕으로 정사사진을 제작하였다. 실제 도화데이터와 Direct Georeferencing 정사영상과의 오차를 평가한 결과, 표준편차가 X는 약 62cm, Y는 약 76cm 정도가 발생하였다. 이 결과는 축적 1:5,000 수치지도의 정확도 요구를 충분히 만족시킬 수 있는 양호한 결과임을 알 수 있다. Direct Georeferencing에 의한 정사영상의 제작방법은 큰 크기의 과대오차가 발생하는 부분을 수작업 또는 반자동으로 해결할 수 있으면 효율적으로 수치지도를 수정/갱신 할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on the Effective Algorithms for tine Generalization (선형성 지형자료의 일반화에 대한 효율적인 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • This paper outlines a new approach to the line generalization when preparing small scale map on the basis of existing large scale digital map. Line generalizations are conducted based on Douglas algorithm using 1/25,000 scale topographic maps of southeastern JEJU island which produced by National Geographic Institute to analyze the fitness to the original and problems of graphical representation. Compare to the same scale map which was generated by manual method, a verity of small, but sometimes significant errors & modification of topological relationship have been detected. The research gives full details of three algorithms that operationalize the smallest visible object method, together with some empirical results. A comparison of the results produced by the new algorithms with those produced by manual generalization and Douglas method of data reduction is provided. Also this paper presents the preliminary results of an relationships between the size of smallest visual object and requiring data storages for each algorithms.

  • Toward the systematic and efficient management of national land, National Geography Institute(NGI, National mapping agency) has been producing national basemap in automated process since middle of 1980's. Under the National Geographic Information System(NGIS) Development Plan, NGI began to produce digital maps in the scales of 1:1,000, 1:5,000, 1:25,000 since 1995. However, those of digital maps that have been generated under NGIS Development Plan need to be modified and corrected due to lack of technology and experience in making digital maps. In this context, those digital maps generated are currently in great need for improving the data dictionary. It is fully appreciated in previous research that data dictionary will be a key element far users and generators of digital maps to rectify the existing problems in digital maps as well as to maximize the application of digital maps. In this paper, we analyzed existing problems in digital maps based on previous researches and interviews with engineers in different fields of geospatial engineering. And then, the existing data dictionary has been redefined and modified. In the line of modification process, a relational matrix was established fur each topographic feature defined in the existing feature classification system. This paper presents newly proposed data dictionary which conforms to newly defined feature classification system from previous research performed by NGI.

  • A number of the latest research projects focus on the development of real-time mapping system. Typically, these devices are used to capture land-related information in digital form from airplanes or cars. The purpose of this paper is to automatically extract the road information from the digital images obtained using the so-called "GPS-Van" which has been developed by Center for Mapping at The Ohio State University, and to propose the method for the effective storage and management of the digital data. The edges of a road can be extracted from the digital image and determined real-time 3-dimensional position by digital photogrammetry. Also, the three storage level which consists of raster data level, object-oriented data level, and vector data level in the data storage and Quadtree data structure for the effective compression and search in the data management was proposed in this paper.his paper.

  • Although the multi-scale map database should be constructed for the web map services and location-based services, much part of generation process is based on the manual editing. In this study, the map generalization methodology for automatic construction of multi-scale database from the primary data is proposed. Moreover, the generalization methodology is applied to the real map data and the prototype of multi-scale map dataset is generated. Among the generalization operators, selection/elimination, simplification and amalgamation/aggregation is applied in organized manner. The algorithm and parameters for generalization is determined experimentally considering T$\ddot{o}$pfer's radical law, minimum drawable object of map and visual aspect. The target scale level is five(1:1,000, 1:5,000, 1:25,000, 1:100,000, 1:500,000) and for the target data, new address data and digital topographic map is used.
