The Analysis of the Robustness of the Autopilot for the UAV (무인비행체 자동조종장치의 강건성 해석에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we designed an autopilot of the unmanned piloted vehicle to guide to the specific position, and analyzed robustness of the designed autopilot. We divide an aircraft velocity into the three case which are low, cruising and high speed, and designed autopilot gains are gain scheduled. We generated the turbulence for the operational altitudes and proved robustness of the designed autopilot for the turbulence using simulation.

  • The supersonic advanced trainer based on digital flight-by-wire flight control system uses aircraft flight information such as altitude, calibrated airspeed and angle of attack to calculate flight control law, and this information is measured by IMFP(Integrated Multi-Function Probe) equipment. The information has triplex structure using three IMFP sensors. Final value of informations is selected by mid-value selection logic to have more flight data reliability. As the result of supersonic flight test, pitch oscillation is occurred due to IMFP noise when altitude hold autopilot mode is engaged. This tendency may affect stability and handling quality of an aircraft during autopilot mode. This paper addresses autopilot control law design to remove pitch oscillation and these control laws are verified by non-real time simulation and flight test. Also, pitch response characteristics of pitch attitude hold autopilot mode is improved by upgrading the control law structure and feedback gain tuning during bank turn.

  • This paper deals with preliminary design results of autopilot for station keeping mode of airship. Linear equations of motion for the airship are derived. Basic architecture of the control laws for cruising and station keeping modes are proposed. Performance analysis results show that autopilot design for station keeping mode of airship is feasible.

  • This paper presents a method for designing an autopilot of the BTT missile using 2DOF Wiener-Hopf control technique to improve tracking performance. Linear controllers are designed based on the linearized models which are obtained from the nonlinear missile dynamic equations at various operating points. The gain scheduling technique is used to implement the final autopilot. A simulation on the flight of missiles is carried out through the use of 6DOF equation program including exact nonlinear equations of the missile and the variations of aerodynamic variables in order to check applicability of the suggested method in real situation.

  • Since linearized equations of notion have much modelling errors, robust controller for disturbances and noises Is necessary for autopilot. In this paper, notion equations for underwater vehicle with six degree-of-freedom are derived and linearized. And robust autopilot for this system is designed by using LQG/LTR methodology.

  • In this paper, we present a method to design a coupled autopilot for STT missiles which have severe aerodynamic cross-coupling. The aerodynamic model is derived in the meneuver plane and, based on that model, an autopilot scheduled by the normal acceleration and the estimated bank angle is designed. Bank angle is obtained by a simple estimator. With the proposed autopilot, it is shown by computer simulations that induced moments are properly compensated and the performance is supiorior to the conventional autopilot.

  • In contrast with STT missiles, the guidance law design for BTT missiles should be based on 3-dimensional pursuit kinematics, since the pitch and roll channels of BTT missiles are coupled dynamically. More generally than the prior works, the dynamics of pitch and roll channels, as well as 3-dimensional pursuit kinematics are considered in the design of our terminal-phase optimal guidance law for BTT missiles proposed in this paper. Thereby, the proposed optimal guidance law guarantees high capturability with small miss distance without significant performance degradation due to time-lag effect even in case of relatively slow autopilot dynamics. Moreover, the resulting optimal guidance law is expressed explicitly in feedback-form with the coefficients given as the functions of time-to-go. The effectiveness and practicality of our work is demonstrated through various simulation results.

  • An autopilot for the class of Bank-To-Turn missiles is developed using a multivariable plant model & control design methodology. The roll-pitch-yaw cross coupling is included in the design considerations. Feedback system is designed using the Linear Quadratic Gaussian with Loop Transfer Recovery (LQG/LTR). Nonlinear simulations are presented to demonstrate the performances of the designed system.

  • A generalized singular linear quadratic control technique is developed to design an optimal trajectory tracking system. The output feedback control law is designed using this technique. The feedback gain matrix is synthesized to minimize tracking errors with pole placement capability to satisfy the control activity requirements. An applications to a bank-to-turn missile coordinated autopilot system design is presented.

  • In modern aircraft, an autopilot system is getting more important. There are not many autopilot systems applied to small aircraft. Also the autopilot system in large or medium aircraft is difficult to apply to small aircraft directly. It is necessary to make a new autopilot system for small aircraft. In this paper, we implement the small aircraft simulator with autopilot system using SIMULINK. The various modes of autopilot - such as altitude select/hold, attitude hold, heading hold, etc. - are implemented to the flight simulator and tested. We also implement the VOR mode for aircraft guidance.
