Color is a significant factor for evoking human emotion. Therefore, the effects of color have been analyzed to predict and evaluate human emotion. The purpose of this study was to measure the cardiovascular responses depending on color stimuli in order to observe differences in color-emotions. Images consisting of six colors (red, green, blue, cyan, magenta, yellow) were used as visual stimuli. 26 college or graduate students (13 males) watched the color stimuli on the monitor and scored their subjective emotion while electrocardiogram (ECG) was meausred. The effects of the color on emotion were tested using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test. The coherence ratio showed significant differences between green and magenta (p = .004), green and red (p = .006), and green and yellow (p = .004). The significant differences of cardiovascular and emotions were relevant to emotional valence. This study shows significance as an empirical study by indicating that green induces pleasant and red induces unpleasant.

Retinal prostheses are being developed to restore vision for the blind with retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa (RP) or age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Since retinal prostheses depend upon electrical stimulation to control neural activity, optimal stimulation parameters for successful encoding of visual information are one of the most important requirements to enable visual perception. Therefore, in this paper, we focused on retinal ganglion cell (RGC) responses to different voltage stimulation parameters and compared threshold charge densities in normal and rd1 mice. For this purpose, we used in vitro preparation for the retina of normal and rd1 mice on micro-electrode arrays. When the neural network of rd1 mouse retinas is stimulated with voltage-controlled pulses, RGCs in degenerated retina also respond to voltage amplitude or voltage duration modulation as well in wild-type RGCs. But the temporal pattern of RGCs response is very different; in wild-type RGCs, single peak within 100 ms appears while in RGCs in degenerated retina multiple peaks (~4 peaks) with ~10 Hz rhythm within 400 ms appear. The thresholds for electrical activation of RGCs are overall more elevated in rd1 mouse retinas compared to wild-type mouse retinas: The thresholds for activation of RGCs in rd1 mouse retinas were on average two times higher ($70.50{\sim}99.87\;{\mu}C/cm^2$ vs. $37.23{\sim}61.65\;{\mu}C/cm^2$) in the experiment of voltage amplitude modulation and five times higher ($120.5{\sim}170.6\;{\mu}C/cm^2$ vs. $22.69{\sim}37.57\;{\mu}C/cm^2$) in the experiment of voltage duration modulation than those in wild-type mouse retinas. This is compatible with the findings from human studies that the currents required for evoking visual percepts in RP patients is much higher than those needed in healthy individuals. These results will be used as a guideline for optimal stimulation parameters for upcoming Korean-type retinal prosthesis.
A variety of diagnostic means for evaluating the hearing ability of neonates and infants have been studied so far, and some physical responses of neonates and infants to loud sound is still of much value. The author studied some normal responses of 100 neonates (male 54, female 46) in our neonatal room from Jan, 1977 to April, 1977. We took 90dB pure tone at 3, 000Hz by Beltone Audiometer model l0D (ANSI 1969) for a stimulus. The results are as follows: 1. The range of the examinees' age is between 2 and 3.5 hours (average 2.4 hours), and auropalpebral response is in 39% (eyelid blinking 10%, eyelid widening 29%), Moro reflex in 35%, sucking response in 14%, cessation of movement in 6%, head turning response in 2%, and no response in 4%. 2. The duration of response is between 2 and 5 Seconds (average 3.3 seconds).
in this study, hybrid bioreactor was used to apply physical stimuli in cell culture. Effect of the applied physical stimuli on the growth and differentiation of MC3T3-El cell in a three-dimensional Chitosan scaffold were studied by using the hybrid bioreactor. The hybrid bioreactor for physical stimulus was specially designed to apply uniaxial cyclic compressive and shear strain. Physical stimulus was applied over a period of 14 days with 150 cycles per day at a frequency of 0.5Hz. Strain magnitude was 2.5% of the scaffold size. Control group and physically stimulated group of the MC3T3-El tell were incubated and harvested at the indicated times (Day 6, 8, 10, 12, 14). The total amount of protein, which obtained information of cell growth, was determined by Lowey method. Alkaline phosphatase activity was examined by ELISA. Physically stimulated group using the hybrid bioreactor was increased in alkaline phosphatase activity comparing with control group. The nodule formation and calcium deposit of the physical stimuli group which resulted in cell differentiation was faster than that of control group.

This study examined the influence of the SOA(stimulus onset asynchrony) between visual and auditory stimuli on the integration phenomenon of audio-visual senses. Within the stimulus integration phenomenon, the redundant target effect (the faster and more accurate response to the target stimulus when the target stimulus is presented with more than two modalities) and the visual dominance effect (the faster and more accurate response to a visual stimulus compared to an auditory stimulus) were examined as we composed a visual and auditory unimodal target condition and a multimodal target condition and then observed the response time and accuracy. Consequently, despite the change between visual and auditory stimuli SOA, there was no redundant target effect present. The auditory dominance effect appeared when the SOA between the two stimuli was over 100ms. Theses results imply that the redundant target effect is continuously maintained even when the SOA between two modal stimuli is altered, and also suggests that the behavioral results of superior information processing can only be deducted when the time difference between the onset of the auditory stimuli and the visual stimuli is approximately over 100ms.

In this paper, the electrical values of resistance, current, and voltage condition of reactivity is analyzed by applying the direct current (DC) voltage in medium for stem cell regeneration treatment. The voltage response by medium is related to electrical stimulation in the process of induction of differentiation for stem cell and the differentiation condition can be checked depending on the response of voltage condition. If the voltage level is lower in reacting response of a medium, the stem cell stimulation condition is stable, and if the voltage changing level is higher, the stem cell stimulation condition is unstable and a considerable loss will be resulted in the differentiation process. In this research, the optimization of electrical stimulation condition is expected for possible stem cell regeneration treatment.

Background and Purpose: This study was undertaken to compare the sensitivity of the Repetitive Nerve Stimulation Test (RNST) between the upper and lower extremity muscles in myasthenia gravis(MG) patients. Material and Methods: The study population consisted of 20 normal persons(control group) and 10 MG patients(MG group). Using Stalberg's method. RNST was systemically performed in orbicularis oculi muscle. upper extremity muscles(flexor carpi ulnaris. abductor digiti quinti), and lower extremity muscles(tibialis anterior. extensor digitorum brevis. vastus medialis). Results: There were statistical differences of decremental response($mean{\pm}SD$) in orbicularis oculi and upper extremity muscles between the control and MG groups(p<0.05 or p<0.01). However, there was no statistical difference of decremental response($mean{\pm}SD$) to RNST in lower extremity muscles between the control and MG groups. There were highersensitivity in orbicularis oculi and upper extremity muscles than lower extremity muscles. Although positive reponse were detected in the lower extremity muscles, the positive response rates of lower extremity muscles were lower than o.oculi and upper extremity muscles. Conclusions: When the response rates of RNST in facial and upper extremity muscles are normal, may not be required RNST in lower extremity muscles.
Objectives : Our study aimed to investigate the sustained effects of sham (SHAM) and verum acupuncture (ACUP) into the post-stimulus resting state. Methods : In contrast to previous studies, in order to define the changes in resting state induced by acupuncture, changes were evaluated with a multi-method approach by using regional homogeneity (ReHo) and amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF). Twelve healthy participants received SHAM and ACUP stimulation right GB34 (Yanglingquan) and the neural changes between post- and pre-stimulation were detected. Results : The following results were found; in both ReHo and ALFF, the significant foci of; left and right middle frontal gyrus, left medial frontal gyrus, left superior frontal gyrus, and right posterior cingulate cortex, areas that are known as a default mode network, showed increased connectivity. In addition, in ReHo, but not in ALFF, brain activation changes in the insula, anterior cingulate cortex, and the thalamus, which are associated with acupuncture pain modulation, were found. Conclusions : In this study, results obtained by using ReHo and ALFF, showed that acupuncture can modulate the post-stimulus resting state and that ReHo, but not ALFF, can also detect the neural changes that were induced by the acupuncture stimulations. Although more future studies with ReHo and ALFF will be needed before any firm conclusions can be drawn, our study shows that particularly ReHo could be an interesting method for future clinical neuroimaging studies on acupuncture.
Stress is accompanied by changes in the responses of the autonomic nervous system, and the heart rate variability (HRV) index is a quantitative marker that reflects autonomic responses induced by stressors. In this study, we observed changes in the autonomic responses induced by combinations of 30% oxygen administration and color light for stress relaxation. In all, 42 participants produced stress symptoms over the preceding two weeks, as rated on the stress response scale. After stress assessment, they were exposed to three therapeutic conditions, and electrocardiogram (ECG) signals were recorded before, during, and after therapy. The three therapy conditions consisted of only 30% oxygen administration with white light, a combination of 30% oxygen and orange light, and a combination of 30% oxygen and blue light. The HRV indices extracted from ECG signals were heart rate (HR), the standard deviation of the RR interval (SDNN), the mean square root of consecutive RR interval difference values (RMSSD), the low frequency component of HRV (LF), the high frequency component (HF), and the LF/HF ratio. These indicators were used to compare mean values before and after therapy. The results showed that HR and the LF/HF ratio were significantly lower after therapy than before it. In particular, the condition with 30% oxygen and blue light yielded significantly greater RMSSD and HF increases, as well as decreases in LF/HF ratio than in other two conditions. Our results suggest that therapy with 30% oxygen and blue light is the most effective for the relaxation of stress, which implies autonomic balance by parasympathetic activation.
