Characteristics of sintered fly ash-clay body prepared by slip processing and its applicability for foundation soils (슬립 공정으로 제조된 비산재-점토 계 소결체의 물성 및 기반재로의 적용특성)

  • The civil engineering properties for the coal fly ash produced from a power plant mixed with sintered powders made from the fly ash-clay slip system were measured and its applicability for the foundation soils was investigated. The F-slip whose dispersion state is 'not good' and C-slip which is re-flocculated by adding a flocculant to a well-dispersed slip were fabricated and then sintered. The sintered body made from C-slip had more uniform microstructure than that of F-slip, therefore, the bulk density and compressive strength were improved. The civil engineering properties such as compression index, compressive strength, permeability coefficient of fly ash were improved by mixing $0.84{\sim}2\;mm$ powders obtained by crushing a sintered body made from C-slip. Therefore, the applicability of mixed powders composing of fly ash and sintered body made from C-slip was confirmed to foundation soils due to its improved civil engineering properties.

  • Among the various types of diesel after-treatment device, the corona discharge reactor may be considered as a powerful process for trapping submicron particles. But after precipitation on the electrodes occurs, the reentrainment of particles is severe and often causes low or negative precipitation efficiency. Experiments were performed to investigate the effect of an applied voltage on the reentrainment of soot particles from the electrodes. A co-annular laminar diffusion flame burner was used as the soot generator. When a highly negative voltage was applied, exfoliation of the deposited soot particles and an increase in concentration of particles smaller than approximately 150 nm were observed. Turbulence induced from the negative tuft corona and sputtering caused particle reentrainment from the corona wire and from plates as well. Under soot laden combustion gas, a streamer corona often occurred in the wire-cylinder reactor. Because of its transient nature, streamer corona violently increased the concentration of reentrained particles and CO gas.

  • 우리 나라의 도시ㆍ산업단지 지역의 대기오염은 심각한 수준으로, 특히 미세먼지로 인한 대기오염은 스모그 등 심미적인 문제뿐만 아니라 호흡성 분진으로 인한 건강 위해성 측면에서 철저한 오염원 관리가 필요하다. 현재 우리 나라의 먼지 배출량을 보면 비산먼지의 배출량이 연소과정에서 발생되는 미세먼지보다도 큰 것으로 추정되며, 특히 이 중에서 자동차의 도로주행시 발생되는 먼지가 비산먼지 발생량 중 90 %이상을 차지하고 있는 것으로 추정된다(국립환경연구원, 2002). 차량운행으로 인하여 포장도로에서 발생하는 비산먼지 배출량은 도로 표면의 단위면적 당 silt(75$\mu\textrm{m}$이하의 입자)량, 즉 silt loading에 의해 좌우되는데 silt loading은 도시ㆍ산업단지의 체계적인 개발계획 및 대기질 관리정책을 수립에 없어서는 안 될 중요한 자료이다.   • In the reactor following the American standard test method (ASTM) D5757-95 and lab-scale fluidized bed combustor, the attrition characteristics of sand and ash of Korean anthracite were investigated. The attrition characteristics, such as particle size distribution of fly ash, attrition rate, and attrition ratio etc, were studied with variation of gas velocities. The particle attrition of ash was more active than sand which was generally used as a fluidized material and also the attrition index of ash taken by ASTM D5757-95 was 5 times higher than that of sand. The formation of fine particles continuously occurred due to particle attrition with increasing gas velocities. The following equation has been suggested for attrition rate of ash. $$\frac{dW}{dt}=-3.18{\times}10^{-7}(U-U_{mf})W$$.

  • Our study was performed to evaluate the effect of leaching parameters including the physicochemical characteristics and the fractionated composition of heavy metals on the release of heavy metals in fly ash discharged from MSWI. Leaching parameters such as pH, CEC, particle size, and exchangeable fraction among the fractional composition classified by sequential extraction procedure are considered. The leaching rate of heavy metal released by KSLT method is largely dependent on the pH of fly ash. The effect of pH on the release of heavy metals is different from elements. It appears that the leaching rate of cadmium and copper decreases with increasing pH, while lead and zinc increases at the condition of neutral or strong alkali condition, which suggests that the leaching of heavy metals are limited by the solubility. It is found that the effect of CEC is similarly to that of pH, $D_{10}$ among the particle size of fly ash is negative correlated with the concentration of heavy metals leached by KSLT method. In the case of exchangeable fraction, the leaching rate of heavy metals is linearly correlated with the exchangeable fraction for the fly ash below 40 meq/l00g of CEC, but not related out of the range.

  • Flying and solidification behaviors of the particles manufactured by centrifugal atomization were investigated. Both models were solved by the explicit FDM. Flying calculation supported the experimental results that the finer particles flied shorter than coarser particles and that particles flied shorter for lower rotation velocity than for higher velocity. Cooling curve and dendrite arm spacing were predicted by use of heat transfer analysis.

  • 순환유동층 보일러는 연소로 (상승관: riser)내에 공기를 고속으로 주입하여 비말동반되는 고체입자를 사이클론에서 포집 하여 재주입하는 유동층을 이르는 것으로, 난류유동층(turbulent fluidized bed), 고속유동층(fast fluidized bed) 그리고 희박상 유동(dilute phase flow) 영역에서 조업이 이루어진다. 순환유동층은 비교적 높은 기체 유속에서 조업이 이루어지기 때문에 고체입자의 혼합 및 비산 그리고 재순환이 격렬하게 이루어지고, 기-고체간 접촉효율 및 전열계수가 높아 전체적인 처리량 및 효율이 좋은 장점을 가지고 있다.(중략)

  • 도시대기중의 분진은 입경 분포에 따라 공기 역학적 직경 2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$를 기준으로 미세 입자(fine particles)와 거대 입자(coarse particles)로 나누어지는 쌍극분포를 보인다. 미세 입자는 주로 화석연료의 연소, 자동차의 배기가스 등과 같은 인위적 발생원에 의한 것이며, 거대입자는 토사의 재 비산, 해염 통과 같은 자연적 발생원에 의한 것이다. 미세 입자는 오염된 도심지역 분진수의 90-99%에 이르는 높은 비율을 보이고 있고, 폐 깊숙히 침투하여 폐 질환을 일으킬 수 있다.   • All coal ash, generated from coal-fired power plants, is entirely dumped onto a landfill site. As coal ash contains 80% fly ash, a clean floating process was developed in this study to recover useful components from coal ash and to use them as high value-added industrial materials. When the unburned carbon (UC) was recovered from the fly ash, soybean oil, an eco-friendly vegetable oil, was used as collector instead of a non-ionic kerosene collector to prevent the occurrence of odor from the kerosene. After the UC was separated by flotation, particulate ceramic microsphere (CM) was recovered, without generating acidic wastewater, through hydro-cyclone instead of sulfuric acid solution in order to separate ceramic microsphere (CM) and cleaned ash (CA) from the residue. By utilizing soybean oil as a collector, the recovery rate of UC turned high at 85.8% due to the increased adsorption of UC, the high viscosity of soybean oil, and the increase in floating properties caused by the linoleic acid contained in soybean oil. All of the combustible components contained in the recovered UC were carbon components, with the carbon content registering high when soybean oil was used. The recovered UC had many pores with a rough surface; thus, it could be easily ground and then used as an industrial material for its fine particles. The CM and CA recovered by the clean separation process using hydro-cyclone had a spherical shape, and the particles were clearly separated without clumping together. The average diameter (D50) of the particles was 5 ㎛, so it was possible to realize the atomization of CM through a process change.
